A sudden voice shattered the lively atmosphere of a women’s clothing store. I turned to face a masked, armed stranger demanding money. In an instant, my role as store manager shifted to protector, and the weight of responsibility for my customers’ safety settled heavily on me. This was only the beginning.

The sense of safety I once took for granted was completely shattered. I worried constantly, would he find me? Facing the assailant in court brought a flood of fear, anxiety, and trauma I wasn’t prepared for.
