The strength of the apartment market and the continued increase in inflation is currently at odds with the potential for reduced demand that has arisen from the Fed's plans for rate hikes, but the high levels of economic activity recorded in recent reports are expected to cool given the Fed's hawkish stance. While strong employment and retail sales numbers could be lagging indicators that will soon show the impact of the Fed's previous rate hikes, it remains to be seen whether these signs of economic strength will serve to cushion the blow of interest rate increases or compel more aggressive interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve.
