    Suspense, history and horrifying
Where does Private Berlin rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I found the story line and it's involvement in the history of East and West Berlin credible and exciting. I consider some of the graphic descriptions in this novel completely unnecessary. When I read a Paterson novel I expect crime and suspense. This novel I couldn't say I enjoyed and wished I hadn't listened to it. If I'd been reading it, at least I could have skimmed some of the more sadistic pages and may have been able to write a more positive review.
If youve listened to books by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan before, how does this one compare?
Have read and listened to James Patterson novels, not sure about the combination.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ari Fliakos and January Lavoy ?
The narrators were excellent and did a fantastic job.
If you could take any character from Private Berlin out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I wouldn't take out any character.
    Any additional comments?
Yes, I would have just inferred the terrible tortures and injustices. Perhaps just a few (or one short) paragraph would have sufficed. As authors, I'm sure they could have justified Chris's, Ilona's and everyone elses behaviour.
    Good series
All the books have a common theme but are also very different which gives you a sense of familiarity and keeps the interest. The characters are well written and enjoyable, even the evil ones!
Enjoyed the east/west Germany element, being old enough to remember it, just.
Easy to listen to as the narrator was clear and each character was identifiable.
The Most Serious Private in the Series.
From start to finish, even though this is a work of fiction, it reads like pure fascinating fact!
Not as high tech as the others, but equally as high drama. Stick with it, it's worth it!
    Similar to other Private stories
I like the Private books and this is my third one. It was a good read but I could not help thinking that the Private was just a title, it did not follow the big money, big tech of the other books. It is a good storyline, sometimes annoying in its nod to difficult to understand German lifestyle. I did enjoy the book but was disappointed it was not a real Private story.
    Very disappointing
I listened intently to the first half of this download. My fascination was growing and I was anticipating a stupendous ending in part 2. Only to find out that the download is corrupted, even after returning and repurchasing. I am left wondering what happened next and disappointed that audible have not fixed the problem.

Its a hot August Saturday on Nantucket Island. Over the course of the next 24 hours, two lives will be transformed forever.
Marguerite Beale, former chef of culinary hot spot Les Parapluies, has been out of the public eye for over a decade. This all changes with a phone call from Marguerites goddaughter, Renata Knox. Marguerite has not seen Renata since the death of Renatas mother, Candace Harris Knox, 14 years earlier. And now that Renata is on Nantucket visiting the family of her new fiancé, she takes the opportunity, against her fathers wishes, to contact Marguerite in hopes of learning the story of her mothers life - and death. But the events of the day spiral hopelessly out of control for both women, and nothing ends up as planned.
Welcome to The Love Season - a riveting story that takes place in one day and spans decades; a story that embraces the charming, pristine island of Nantucket, as well as Manhattan, Paris, and Morocco. Elin Hilderbrands most ambitious novel to date chronicles the famous couplings of real lives: love and friendship, food and wine, deception and betrayal - and forgiveness and healing.

    Super Excellent!!! A must listen!!!
What made the experience of listening to The Love Season the most enjoyable?
I wasn't going to purchase this audiobook after listening to the preview but I did and I was wowed!!! The story had stories within stories not a moment in the book was it dull! I loved every character; every bit of travel; friendships made and want a sequel!!! You can't be disappointed. There are many character's but never confusing. The book is excellent from go and Christina Delaine is my favorite narrator?
What other book might you compare The Love Season to and why?
The closest in my thoughts is The Blue Bistro but I liked this more. It had more of a storyline with great character's. Definitely is a listen again!
Have you listened to any of Christina Delaines other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, Christina is my favorite narrator by far! The voices are distinguishing different and she involves me right into the audio. I feel I am there?
If you could rename The Love Season, what would you call it?
    I wouldn't change it.
    Any additional comments?
I have read many of Elin Hilderbrand's books and have enjoyed every one. I had never read her before and will definitely read them all. She's an amazing author; uniquely gifted to making each book very different. I am super impressed!
    Nice!
I really enjoyed Elin's approach to this story, the characters were uniquely interwoven with each other, and the ending was great. A very creative approach. Very open ended in what would unfold for each of them, but not in a way to set up a sequel or series, just great writing style. It was fun to see what my mind wanted to do with the characters. I was delighted to be brought into the story that way. The "romance" of the Island & "fine dining/wine" was wonderfully unfolded in the story line.
Good Listen, but Very Sad Story
What did you love best about The Love Season?
I liked the focus on food and the restaurant life on Nantucket. I also liked the time shifts back and forth from the present to the past.
What didnt you like about Christina Delaines performance?
She made Margaret sound very old, much older than her 63 years. I pictured Margaret as 90 years old and crippled.

Pretty good story buried under turgid narration
The story has a creative and interesting plot surrounding a modern-day love story and a long-ago mystery and the way they become woven together by two freak spring snow storms. It's not great literature, but it would be a good read. I use "read" deliberately because listening to this story is a terrific disappointment.
I realize, as I am nearing the end, that I am so distracted by the narrator, that I find myself wondering, "How would that sound in my head if I were just reading it - would I give that phrase that emphasis? Would I feel differently about this character, this decision, this coincidence if I didn't have that voice in my head making every character sound as if they have a huge stick up their... er ... you know." When the focus of your listening experience becomes the narrator and not the story, something isn't working well.
I'm not sure what Ms. Sands was trying to do with this story, but her slow, deliberate, pronounce-every-syllable pacing becomes very distracting. Her tone is usually "emphatic" sounding and everyone (all her characters) speak with the same level of intensity about everything. Vera is exactly as intense about the hole in her shoe as she is about her missing child - like that.
I listened to samples from some of her other works, and she clearly doesn't narrate like this in all of them, and that leads me to wonder if this might have been the result of bad direction.
    Overacted Narration, Cheesy Writing, Predictable
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Perhaps people who like a highly emotionally-charged book, but don't care for literary-style writing. Perhaps someone with children. But, honestly, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone I know.
What was most disappointing about Sarah Jios story?
It was bothersome how everything just seemed to be such a coincidence, but each "twist" and "turn" was really predictable. The characters the protagonist meets are too convenient to helping her in her story. So much so that it became annoying.
When she tried to create a scene that was light-hearted, or funny, (which the protaganist's best friend was supposed to do) it came off as cheesy, clunky, and unnatural.
The cliche critique of the wealthy and entire theme of the book being poor vs. rich also got old.

    One of the Best!
This was a brilliant book! Well written and read with one voice that somehow managed to create all the different characters so that in my imagination they all became real people who I could 'see' and 'know'
    Gripping
I think this may e the book that finally converts my husband to audio books. After listening to some of it on a long car journey, he was desperate to know more of this story of empathy, guilty reflection and a heinous crime. I loved this story, the movement of past and present and its ability to totally hook you in to the pain of the main characters past. Loved it!
    excellent courtroom drama
Incredibly well read, every character is brought to life through no-holds barred acting. The courtroom scenes are easily as riveting as the best in movies. The flashbacks are every bit as absorbing as we discover more about the defendant's lawyer and his own tragic past... highly recommended.
Very Cleverly books an excellent read
Two parallel stories help each other develop and you quickly understand the actions and reactions of the main characters. Compelling story with very disturbing plots. Much to talk about with friends.
    One word - BRILLIANT!
Wow what an excellent listen. Hugh Lee is just fab with the narration- you actually feel like there are different people for each character and really helps you visualise each one.
I can't praise this enough and just love Minnie! You can't help but like her! What a well written story with excellent narration keeping you gripped to the end.
I've been searching for more listens narrated by Hugh Lee but not having much luck - definitely more please!
    Fab!

    Publisher's Summary:
    Audie Award Nominee, Mystery, 2013
Perennial New York Times and national best-selling author and acclaimed, multiple prizewinner Laura Lippman delivers a brilliant novel about a woman with a secret life who is forced to make desperate choices to save her son and herself.
Heloise considers it a blessing to be a person who seldom attracts attention. In her suburb, she's just a mom, the young widow with the forgettable job, who somehow never misses a soccer game. In the state capital, she's the redheaded lobbyist with a good cause and a mediocre track record. But in discreet hotel rooms throughout the area, she's the woman of your dreams - if you can afford the hourly fee.
For more than a decade, Heloise believed she was safe, managing to keep up this rigidly compartmentalized life. But her secret life is under siege. One county over, another so-called suburban madam has been found dead in her car, an apparent suicide. As 40 looms and her son enters adolescence, Heloise is facing a midlife crisis with much higher stakes than most will ever know. With no formal education, no real family or friends, Heloise has to remake her life - again. Disappearing will be the easy part. The trick is living long enough to start a new life.
    Members Reviews:
Thank goodness for Heloise and excellent narration
Where does And When She Was Good rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I've listened to every Laura Lippman book on Audible. This was one of her best - Linda Emonds rocks as a narrator. I wish she narrated more books!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. There were unexpected twists and turns to the story that kept me wondering what would happen next. Heloise's choices make sense based on what we learn of her past. Laura Lippman is a master of character development.
Have you listened to any of Linda Emonds other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've listened to every Linda Emond performance of L. Lippman's books. This was one of her best. They are all good though.
Who was the most memorable character of And When She Was Good and why?
Oddly, I was drawn to the character of Audrey and her pivotal role in the story. She was a constant yet she still remains a mystery. In a good way.
    Any additional comments?
Please write more books, Ms. Lippman!
    And When She Was Bad...
Wow! How to describe this book and its main character? Different, compelling, intriguing, appalling, thought-provoking - all come to mind.
Laura Lippman is a great writer, and she delivers here. The characters are well-developed and interesting. The book is structured in the one-chapter-in-the-present, one-chapter-in-the-past format. I'm not generally a fan of that style, but it works here, and the build up of interest and tension is palpable.
If you are like me, you will find your sympathies shifting around a lot in "And When She Was Good." Whether you believe this unique character and her story to be symptoms of the decline of civilization or an increase in tolerance, I think you'll find it to be thought-provoking and entertaining.
    Not your usual mystery novel...
I loved this book. Some times when I read a book, I can't remember what it was about within a month. I will not soon forget this one.
I gave this four stars, because I really got wrapped up in Heloise's life and how she problem solved.

    Publisher's Summary:
Addy Hanlon has always been Beth Cassidy's best friend and trusted lieutenant. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out, a long-established order of things that has brought them to the pinnacle of their high-school careers. Now they're seniors who rule the intensely competitive cheer squad, feared and followed by the other girls - until the young new coach arrives.
Cool and commanding, an emissary from the adult world just beyond their reach, Coach Colette French draws Addy and the other cheerleaders into her life. Only Beth, unsettled by the new regime, remains outside Coach's golden circle, waging a subtle but vicious campaign to regain her position as "top girl" - both with the team and with Addy herself.
Then a suicide focuses a police investigation on Coach and her squad. After the first wave of shock and grief, Addy tries to uncover the truth behind the death - and learns that the boundary between loyalty and love can be dangerous terrain.
The raw passions of girlhood are brought to life in this taut, unflinching exploration of friendship, ambition, and power. Award-winning novelist Megan Abbott, writing with what Tom Perrotta has hailed as "total authority and an almost desperate intensity," provides a harrowing glimpse into the dark heart of the all-American girl.

    Intense reading
If you could sum up Dare Me in three words, what would they be?
    Mutually assured destruction
What other book might you compare Dare Me to and why?
The secret history by Donna Tarrt due to the intensity of the relationships; the adult/ teen interplay & the dark undercurrent. Several of the Nicci French novels have similar themes of the perils of self/ other confusion.
What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
The reader delivered the teenage voice with credibility & maimtained my interest in some of the details of Cheering, not a subject matter which initially engaged me.
Who was the most memorable character of Dare Me and why?
Addy remains memorable for prevailing in the midst of the self destruction of Beth, Will & Coach. Beth was right, Addy was always the strong one.
    Any additional comments?
For the first couple of chapters, i thought i had erred in buying a YA listen but after that this 50 something year old was fully engaged with the characters & their motivations while a vivid mind movie of their athletic feats was running throughout. The author managed to evoke memories of my own high school humiliations & gratitude that those memories now have the benefit of life experience.
    Very well written
If you could sum up Dare Me in three words, what would they be?
    Evocative, startling voice
    Any additional comments?
Wonderful writing from Megan Abbott. This woman really knows how to not only plot a taut story arc but also how to evoke compelling 3-D characters & craft precise, vivid, crackling prose. (Re. performance: I do so wish our narrators would stop making adolescent girls sound like munchkins. That said, this book's audio-narrator does give a *far* more nuanced performance than the audio-narrator of Abbott's The End of Everything, who basically ruins the latter book. Sad.)
    SURPRISINGLY THOUGHTFUL. WORTHWHILE READ!
As other reviewers have noted, this is a poignant coming-of-age novel. Also there are elements of mystery and suspense.

    Disappointing
Would you try another book from Danielle Steel and/or Richard Thomas?
Definitely Danielle Steele but not Richard Thomas.
What other book might you compare Fine Things to and why?
I'd compare this book to any Danielle Steele book. Her books are so genuine and guaranteed to touch the heart.
How could the performance have been better?
It was like the narrator was running a race! He read too fast often running sentences and phrases together and seemed like he just wanted to get it over with. No real emotion or differentiation of characters.
Did Fine Things inspire you to do anything?
    Yes, turn the program off.
    Any additional comments?
I read this book years ago and watched the made for TV movie. One of the few books that actually made me cry. I have a bit of a drive to work and love to listen to books and I was very excited at the idea of revisiting a well loved book. Wow was I disappointed. I could barely make it fifteen minutes and I had to turn it off. The narration was done at high speed with one sentence run into the next and virtually no character development at all. I'll definitely think twice before purchasing another book narrated by Richard Thomas.
    captivating but too short
Have loved this story since it was originally published too short now. Too many details left out
    Great book bad narrator
The book was interesting, but the narrator sounded like he had time constraints to hold up to. The book would of sounded better if he took his time and most of the characters sounded the same.

    Great story and horrific narration.
I picked this title because I had just listened to Higgins' Catch of the Day, and truly enjoyed it. I should have given the excerpt a careful listen, but I didn't. Xe Sands, who narrated Catch of the Day, would have been a much better choice. Eyre's voice would be appropriate for some work, but I felt like I was listening to a 75 year old with a warbley voice, and could not take it. Of course, it could just be me and some people might love Eyre's voice with this novel, but I felt like I was listening to a great grandmother instead of a 35 year old woman. I bought the ebook instead, and am much happier for having done so.
    pretty good...predictable....narration awful
For this one I had to speed up the narration speed due to the whine and nasal performance. Story is ok, very predictable.
    Too many Big Misunderstandings
Would you try another book from Kristan Higgins and/or Justine Eyre?
Yes, although I do not like Justine Eyre; she is affected and does not read men's voices well.
What could Kristan Higgins have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Enough with the misunderstandings! I really disliked the heroine; she was very self-satisfied and judgmental, and apparently not very smart or thoughtful. She never thought deeply about her relationships with either parent or the hero, when any idiot could have been able to tell that he liked her, and had for a long time. Neither the hero nor the heroine had much of a personality and it wasn't clear why they would like each other let along fall in love. And then after a summer's worth of not seeing each other, there is a Big Misunderstanding that would take two minutes to figure out and talk about, but no, the heroine storms out and the hero has to grovel yet again. I am very tired of romance authors putting the hero in the wrong in such petty ways and having the heroine acting so wounded and superior when she is being at least as bad as the hero is.
    Any additional comments?
This was easily the worst Kristan Higgins book I have read; she is a fairly good romance author, although her characters are not particularly deep. In this book all of the characters are flat and stereotypical. She especially does a job on rich people; wealth doesn't make people stupid or evil unless they were already.
This is a lovely, passionate, interesting story
I really enjoyed this story. It wasn't rushed and didn't seem slow to me. It has that lovely build of passion instead of immediate gratification. I enjoyed Catch of the Day also....this seemed a little more indepth story to me.

    Publisher's Summary:
Hetta Coffey is a globe-trotting civil engineer with attitude who is working on coming of age, a little late. Pushing forty and still single, Hetta is the epitome of the "B" word: bold, bossy, brassy, breezy, and brash. After leaving a lifelong swath of failed multinational affairs in her jet stream, it is no wonder Hetta prefers living with her dog, R.J. But old habits die hard, and trolling for triceps is Hetta's hobby.
Plying the waterfront in search of Saturday brunch, Hetta's attention is snagged by a parade of passing yachts - especially their predominantly male skippers - and experiences a champagne-induced epiphany: If she had a boat, she could get a man. In hopes a floating Valhalla will overcome an all-time low-water mark in her life, Hetta buys her dream boat in spite of a spectacular ignorance of all things nautical. But a shadowy stalker, an inconvenient body, and Hetta's own self-destructive foibles imperil not only her new life, but a newly- found romance.

    Delightful!
A delightful little story with a few bad guys, a few good guys and a dog. While it was somewhat predictable, it was so well written that I didnt mind. Now I understand the term cozy mystery. I rather like Hetta, and I am hoping that a few of the other characters will be continuing on, as well. 4.5 stars.
    Not enought mystery
This was a funny story with a good plot. The characters are likable and believable. However the mystery doesn't come until the last quarter of the book. The rest of the book is more like a romance novel. But like I said the plot is good. If you want more mystery than romance this is not the book for you.
    Wonderful Outrageous snd Wickedly Funny
I never laughed so much reading a book nor cried so hard at the sad part all the time on the edge trying the guess where the story would take me next. I loved it and the narrator was perfect. Can't wait to read the next ones!!
    I really enjoyed this book!
I really enjoyed this book , and will look for more from the series and author! The characters were well developed and believable, I wanted to hang out in their world :-)
    Characters with depth
The plot took a bit to unfold but the author writes very well so it was all fun to listen to. I'm disappointed the book is over and want to listen to the entire series. The heroine is nice but not perfect which I like, she's very human and interesting. All the characters have depth. I loved this novel. I'm a dog lover and thought she did a great job with her relationship with her dog. The heroine feels like a friend
