Good romance, a bit slow in developing, but likeable, believable characters. Would recommend to any romance fan. Excellent story and read.

An Enjoyable Small Town Contemporary Romance!

When Adam Came to Town by Kate Kelly is a September 2013 Harlequin publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sylvie has returned home from Toronto after her father has a heart attack. She's a famous artist who is creatively blocked and suffering from panic attacks. Adam has just moved to the small town after inheriting his grandmother's home. He plans to renovate the house and is working at the cafe owned by Sylvie's family.

When Sylvie finds out her father intends to sell the cafe due to financial strain, she becomes very upset and tells her father she wants to move back home and run the cafe. He doesn't support this idea. For one thing he thinks Sylvie needs to move back to Toronto and use her talent as an artist and for another thing Sylvie doesn't know how to cook. So, Sylvie talks Adam into helping her learn how to cook, a task he reluctantly agrees to. Sylvie also plans on raising money to keep from having to sell the cafe and begins organizing a fund raiser.

Sylvie has many issues to work through, one of them being the need to uncover the story behind her mother's death in a car accident. There was more to the story and everyone has kept their mouths shut about it for Sylvie's sake. But, the time has come for her hear the truth no matter how much she may dread it.

For Adam, he is also trying to sort things out in his life. His dangerous and hardened father died and his mother is a junkie. Adam himself has had a hard time of it and thinks it's best Sylvie never knows about that part of his life. But, as the two begin to spend more time together they begin to slowly fall in love and that means a day of reckoning will come.

I thought this was a charming small town love story. Sylvie has not found happiness in the city, nor has fame and recognition brought contentment. Sylvie has a nice looking boyfriend that is very sweet and treats her well, but he bores her to tears. Obviously, there is something going on with Sylvie that is psychological and the trigger was her father's heart attack. Sylvie's family is close but complicated. Her good friend Teressa is a red headed fire ball that calls it like she sees it and has her own troubles in life. Then there is Adam. He is a bit of an enigma. We know he's not rolling in money and so we have to wonder why he's chosen to move into his Grandmother's home when there isn't alot in this small town to challenge him once the house is renovated.

the power of friendship

How often do we find that friend who will stand before us.? The one who's trust is unwavering? That is what this book is about. It is a wonderful book.

Story-ok, narrator- not good

Not my favorite Amber Garza book, but because I love most of her books I have to wonder isz the narrator played a big role in that.

Fell to Pieces

This was a nice story but it jumped over too much at the end. I wanted more development between the climax and the ending. Adored the narrator - she nailed the voices and brought life to the story. Overall, a good read.

Delightful and fun

Well written, fast paced, full of humour, heart and sexiness. Liam and Aubrey are fabulous characters and their connection communicates so clearly! A fabulous read!

Blurb Didn't Do Story Any Favors

Okay, hereâs the thing. Iâm in the mood for contemporary romance, something with good banter and chemistry between the main characters. Fun and flirty and sexy. Iâve been starting and DNFing quite a lot in my search for whatever is going to quench my craving and randomly added a bunch of books from my to-read list to my Kindle.

This was one of them. And Iâm glad I did. It was a quick, little read. Hot and fun without being too filled with Drama. I really liked Aubrey â the fact that sheâs so forward was just plain fun to read. She didnât always feel as confident as she projected, which I felt was realistic, but she didnât let that stop her either. It made me relate to her a lot.

Liam Flynn (not Hemsworth â who is who I kept picturing, despite the blue-eye descriptor) was definitely the sexy-times that Aubrey was looking for. I thought it was awesome that he was good at his job (police detective), but needed Aubreyâs confidence and care in order to get out from under the stigma that he was operating under at work.

What was best about their relationship though was how organic it felt. Despite the set-up. I still donât understand this dating-trading-card-thing, or why/how his card fell out of the Manhattan night sky into Aubreyâs hand, but if I shrug those things off and just have fun, itâs so enjoyable.

Also, I found myself chuckling more than once when the narration seemed to poke fun at some of the common themes that happen in romance novels. Not that it was demeaning or putting them down, but sort of a tongue-in-cheek joke towards itself. I like when a book can do that, and (even better) when it makes sense for the characters.

One thing I will say, after having read several of these âCosmo Red-Hot Readsâ novellas is that they always seem to catch me off guard with how much sex they contain. Theyâre sexy and hot, while still kind of leaving a mystery/allure to the smexy-times.

Great Book!

This is the first book in The Hollywood Girls Club series by Maggie Marr and narrated Suzy Lexington. This book is so much fun and such great characters. Four friends decide to make a blockbuster film in the male dominated, Hollywood, they get more then they bargain for. Cici is the movie queen, Jessica is the agent, Lydia is a billion dollar producer, and Mary Ann is a writer. They soon discover that the girls club can be as cutthroat as the boys club and even more cattier.

The narrator Suzy Lexington, did a great job, and was very easy to listen too. This is the first time I have listened to this narrator, and I am looking forward to listening to more books by her. She did a great job with the different characters and their voices.

If you are looking for a great book with wonderful characters and friendship, then you need to get this book! I am looking forwarded to listening to the next book in series.

Loads of emotion and danger

The Ivy Avengers miniseries is about a group of siblings with very different personalities and a Hollywood connection. Occasionally one of them becomes caught up in a troubling situation, and this time it is the oldest brother who finds his life turned upside down because of his protective nature. Two people will then have to let go of the past to ever find happiness plus make decisive choices to stay alive. Jennifer Morey gives her couple plenty to prevail over as they question previous decisions and ponder what type of future they want. ARMED AND FAMOUS is emotionally touching plus filled with dicey risks.

After a personal incident intensely affected Lincoln Ivy, he became a bounty hunter. Although he comes from a very wealthy family, he still wants to work and receives great satisfaction when he captures a fugitive. Lincoln also feels the need to defend anyone in jeopardy, and it is very clear his neighbor has some huge problems. Unfortunately, she gives him no explanation for why a man harassed her and avoids him if at all possible. But they keep coming in contact with each other because her dog repeatedly sneaks over to his house and must be retrieved.

Remy Lang has her reasons for not telling her handsome neighbor any of her secrets. She knows her life is in danger and hopes to find a solution without involving anyone else. When she is once again threatened, Lincoln becomes entangled in the situation and there is no easy way for either of them to escape the peril. What has brought this recurring danger into her life is believably depicted, and I was certainly shocked by several of the gradually exposed facts. This couple had to do lots of digging to find the truth of what was actually happening and who was involved.

As these two look for clues, they have many heart-to-heart conversations, where questions are asked but answers are not always forthcoming.

Living on the Fringe

"Burning the Map" had so much potential to be a great summer-type read, but I felt short changed in the end. Laura Caldwell has a very pleasant writing style-filled with great imagery and clever conversations.

Overall, this book was fun to read, but after pages and pages of character and scenery development, the ending felt like it was on fast-forward play. It was almost as though the author was very excited about the plotline, but then just fizzled out when we finally get to the meat of the main character's epiphany.

The story of the three young women's trip to Rome and Greece is told by Casey-a young woman who has just now realized that she has been isolating herself from her friends, family, boyfriend and even her true self for nearly two years. I found it difficult to empathize with Casey and her struggles with her two best friends. It isn't until the very end of the story that she seems to really make any effort to `reconnect' with her friends and reacquaint herself with who she really is.

I admit, I was very pleased with the deviance from the standard chick book wrap-up, but I wasn't terribly surprised. My only real complaint about the plot is that it all seems rushed in the end; the characters all very promptly (seemingly out of nowhere) `figure it all out' and then poof, the book has ended. This was a fun but not fabulous read.

Loved it! It was such an easy/fun read that I read it in 2 days!

An overall fun reading experience

One of the best things about Burning the Map is that it surprised me. I was expecting something that fell neatly into the standard run-of-the-mill Chicklit genre, and instead I found a story about real friendship, self-identity, and travel.

Casey Evans is a refreshing protagonist.

The story is predictable but it is a nice afternoon read.

It was a decent read

Jordan and Stephanie had been married before. However, when she couldn't completely trust him (money wise) and stand by him when he wanted to take chances and gamble in making more....they split. Of course, Jordan maintains that she left him, but she claims that he went away and she hadn't heard from him for 2 weeks so she began divorce proceedings. He didn't stop them as he had no money. Now he has moved to her hometown and is setting up shop. Stephanie kept a secret from him, but she didn't know at the time that proceedings were begun. YET, she did soon after and she was childish, selfish and perhaps vindictive enough to keep her mouth shut!!

This was actually a decent story. Jordan was hard to read at times but his explanation at the end made a lot of sense. I think sometimes he made empty threats....okay a lot of times he did, but Stephanie believed him. However, he never followed through. Does that mean she still doesn't trust him not to hurt her? I couldn't believe her dad's quick about face though. It was as though he was all about money! Okay, maybe that is where she gets it from - he knew what side his bread was buttered on! LOL! The OM was made out to be pretty rotten too. She freakin' picked him out, what's that say about her? For some odd reason it felt like there was a comparison b/w the house and the h too! You know Jordan had OW over the years - they were divorced after all, but he still said that he always saw Stephanie as his wife! Does that mean he was up for some cheating then? LOL! Not sure if she had OM though, wondered if she ever slept w/ that penny pincher OM though? Oh and why is she making excuse for him not liking the girl because of the r/s w/ Jordan? He never knew before and he didn't seem to like her then either. The potential OW would have added a lot more to the mix if she and her manipulative mother had been used more though.

Love this book!

Not a good second chance story

I read this story as part of the Springhill series bundle and I truly gritted my teeth through it. I love this author usually but perhaps because these stories were written a long time ago (there is talk of faxes and mail), they just felt a bit harsh. Let me say that I'm not a fan of second chance love stories usually and this is one of those. Unfortunately the "H" and I use that term loosely, was incredibly nasty to the h for most of the book. The h was no prize either since she never bothered to tell the H that he was a father after they divorced very quickly. There were non stop incidents that bordered on cruelty at times. I didn't like the fact that the H kept buying his daughter material stuff either. Truthfully there were so many things I didn't like and right at the end when the h asks the H not to hurt her or be nasty to her he replies that he can't seem to help it.
