Entertaining enough, but a bit predictable.

Hawk Quest is entertaining enough. It has some good historical and location detail. I finished it!

However, it is very predictable and it always seemed pretty obvious what was going to happen next. Also, some of the dialogue is truely dire.

Hawk Quest will not go down in history as classic literature, but makes a good listen and has enough interest to keep you going.

Superb full of action and adventure.

I found this book by chance and have to say I loved it.

It is full of action, drama, ferociousness, tension and passion. It is not the type I would usually go for but I am so glad I did. The narration was amazing and you could imagine each

character from the voice of the narrator. The description of the journey across land and sea made you feel as though you were travelling with them and the telling of Wayland's search for the gyrfalcons left me at times with butterflies!

I have already downloaded the next book and cannot wait to start to follow the journey of Vallon, Wayland and Hero.

If you like action and adventure with lots of blood and gore then don't hesitate to listen to this

book.

Robert Lyndon has crafted an enthralling adventure starting in norman Britain, passing through friendly and hostile Viking territories, and culminating in the Middle East on a multi-facetted quest for freedom, riches and knowledge.

Ric Jerrom read with consistent pronunciation and impeccable timing and pace to keep his audience engaged in the current and anticipating the next event in the unfolding story.

Brilliantly written and read by Simon Brett

Simon Bretts books are a delight, and listening to Simon read any of his books doubly so. Listening to the brilliant Charles Paris and Mrs Pargeter whodunnit stories on tape on long road trips in the 1990s got me hooked on audiobooks.

Its great to see Audible now have available, some of the Charles Paris stories read by Simon Brett himself. For me Charles Paris is Simons best creation, a mildly dissolute journeyman stage actor with a charming character, wry humour and excellent amateur sleuthing skills, that Simon brilliantly characterises in his audio books. What Bloody man is that? is just one of many great Charles Paris stories and a must listen to for any whodunit fan.

Very much enjoyed the story but it would be infinately better if Bill Nighy was the reader

Disappointing

I'm a big fan of the BBC dramatisations. However this novel is pretty disappointing by comparison. The puerile sexist quips ("she wouldn't recognise a joke unless it knocked her over and raped her") make the hero, Charles, very uncomfortable company. I guess the BBC edits the text when dramatising! Pity Brett doesn't exercise the same judgement.

theatre based mystery

Overall the plot was well fleshed out and I liked the main character, Charles Paris. In the way of fictional detectives he is flawed but intelligent and humane with just a touch of vulnerability. Towards the end though it all fizzled out and the unmasking of the killer was a bit of an anti climax

Great book

Nick is an informant who is sent to the seemingly peaceful town of Silver Springs. All is definitely what it appears to be.You will find many creepy characters ,supernatural happenings and a really great read!

Amazing combination of scifi and a current timeline

This is the third Sakmyster book that I have read. He did not disappoint. I have never read such a skillful intwining of science fictioi with a beleivable current time setting. Using the trait that exhibits how humans can be swept along in ideologies they don't understand but follow anyway just because their neighbors or friends do. Showing just how deeply they can allow others to think for them. I am constantly amazed by this in real life, it's occurrences throughout history and the horror that can result by people just following and not thinking for themselves. Sakmyster captures the phenonmenon so well. It took just a few brave people, one of whom was 'infected' but used his brain independently and to act in order to overcome great adversity. I could not put this book down until I finished the last page.

A Five Star Read

I thought this book was a great read that had me turning pages well into the night. There were so many different elements present, yet they all worked well together. The whole premise of the lake was intriguing, and the explanation was quite satisfying.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Good Read

I liked this book, moved along fast had a hard time putting it down read it in 3 days, If you like fasted paced books this is the one for you. the caricatures were brought to life and you can visulize each one also the settings of places were described well enough to make the set and caricatures come to life.

interesting read

Enjoyed the plot but would like to see more realistic information about what it is that archaeological excavations and investigations actually do.

Ardis Cole series

Book was okay. After reading a couple of her books she is pretty predictable. Can't believe a woman would really be as stupid and careless as the character in this book is.

Three's a charm?

I've read the other two books by this author and enjoyed them but this one fell short. didn't hold my attention and I found it a struggle to get through.

Strange story

Would you consider the audio edition of The Fear Index to be better than the print version?

I am not sure what to make of this one. A strange and unsettling story and at the end you are not sure exactly what the meaning of it all was. You can interpret it so many different ways. I did not read the print version.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would not have so many long passages about stocks and shares and trading. Unless you know a lot about it - rather long winded.

Excellent bit of historical fiction

This was an excellent story - the author is clearly an expert on the period and location depicted in the book and he is able to weave in those extra details that allow the reader to experience a taste of what the scenes would have felt like. He describes common maladies, attitudes and hang-ups with ease and uses them to take a very good detective story to the next level. Loved it! I plan on reading the first book in the series soon and will then anxiously await another installment with this set of characters.

A Very Enjoyable Mystery!

I was quickly caught up in the story! The characters were likeable and interesting. This was a quick, fun read. I look forward to reading the next book - Smasher! Paul Boehmer did an excellent job narrating this entertaining tale!
