Naration detracted from the story

What made the experience of listening to Sweet and Deadly the most enjoyable?

Another story a world away from the Sookie Stackhouse universe. Perhaps a little closer to the Aurora Teagarden character but Charlaine Harris once again demonstrates her versatility.

What did you like best about this story?

I hadn't a clue as to 'who-done-it' until the very end!

Did Suzy Jackson do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Although the naration was clear and showed SOME marked differences in the characters, it came nowhere near to my expectations after having listened to so many performances by Johanna Parker. At times the delivery resembled a cross between someone reading out statements from a script and an audio-described TV voiceover!

Whilst it has taken me a while to get round to listening to this audio book, I have to say that it is very much up to Linda Fairstein' s usual quality and has kept me hooked. The reason why I have been so slow is because I am unaccustomed to listening to audio books through my kindle or through my phone, and have only recently begun trying this. I am now gripped! This book has helped ease me in. I love the fact that you can allow your imagination to picture things far more easily as you listen to the spoken word.

This book is well read and easy to listen to. A great story!

Definitely I will listen to it again. Very good story, great characters main and secondary,and good plot

My favorite character is Gemma James although I love Duncan Kincaid too. I really enjoy the way the author combines domestic life with crime investigation

Yes, I like the way she performs, Not too dramatic with nice accent

I strongly recommend the series.The novel stands on itself but I think it is more enjoyable if you read at least the second or third book before this one.

Great, enchanting mystery from Deborah Crombie

If you could sum up No Mark Upon Her in three words, what would they be?

Deborah Crombie, along with Louise Penny, is certainly on the list of my favourite detective writers - and she does not disappoint this time. Each of her books usually has a new theme, a twist, a focus - opera, antiquities, history of London Docks etc. In this case, it is rowing. Narration is very pleasant as well, no criticism here. If you are a fan of cosy British mysteries with flavour of local history, I highly recommend this book

Somewhat old fashioned

The story is seemingly set in 2011 as it refers to the 'Olympics' next year. However, throughout, I just thought of the 1950s. Whether this is due to the narrating or the writing I am not too sure. The story is not bad and you certainly learn a lot about rowing, however, it was so middle class I felt ostracised from the characters.They are generally privately educated at Eton, rowed for Oxbridge, live in Nottinghill and have Agas as well as being relentlesly 'PC'. The police investigating the crimes had all the rowing terminolgy and this seemed unrealistic.

Some of the characters voices were so cut glass they actively grated on my nerves as they bordered on arrogant. It was a shame as one of the main characters I really disliked whereas, had I stuck to the written word, I probably would have liked him. The principals' backgrounds are twisted but I just was not interested.

The other ratings for this book are high so my view differs from others, however, for me the book dragged and I was half inclined to leave it before the end.

Percy Peach in action

I just recently discovered this long running series, and I am thoroughly hooked. Percy Peach is an interesting and astute character with a wry sense of humor. In Merely Players, he is solving the murder of a well-known television actor -- a self-centered and shallow man. Was the perpetrator the young actress he recently vetoed for a continuing roll? Was it his neglected wife? His wife's lover? His newly spurned agent, who is suspected to have Mafia ties? Is it his director or producer, both of whose recommendations he discarded? Was it the old actor who had championed him only to be ignored later? Or possibly the old actor's lover? Could it have been the brother on whom all responsibility for an aging parent was placed?
