While You Were Scrolling...

The scandals just keep on coming with this week's topic of Derrick Jaxn and his wife Da'Naia Jackson. The two were previously in the blog headlines due to Derrick (self appointed relationship guru) being caught cheating. The couple made a video together to clean up the mess that Derrick's infidelity created, and after many, many jokes from the internet, the story faded away. But recently, Derrick was caught cheating again, giving the blogs reason to rehash the past. And now, not too long after Da'Naia made a public video cursing (the Spell kind) anyone who dared speak ill of her and her husband's relationship, Derrick has filed for divorce! We have thoughts. Episode 17 really delves in unlikely pairings as William chooses Sharon over Monica; realizing intimacy in a relationship is all he ever really wanted. Meanwhile, the "odd couple" that is Toni and Todd is culminated when they realize they are in love with each other. Todd seals the deal by proposing to Toni with 4 different types of rings, no less.

Episode 18 centers around Toni's engagement celebrations, and Joan's reluctance to be a fully supporting friend/bridesmaid when she herself is jealous that she is not the bride. Joan takes all of her frustrations out on Ellis (her current boyfriend), deflecting her real issues onto their relationship. We discuss Joan's shortcomings in this episode, and every one prior, that has gotten her to this point. 

All in all, if you don't address your true emotions and circumstance, they will build up and spill into your life in unexpected ways. Listen In!

In this episode, we discuss Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey and select the "Afrobeats Street Dance-Off" scene as our POCcorn moment. This film was a joy to watch as it provided musical lovers and fantasy lovers alike an opportunity to see POC in a new light. High quality, large platform projects like these do much more than make an entertaining film, they make a relatable experience. And this one in particular, addressing grief, betrayal, magic, love and possibility, gives the hope one is looking for in any Holiday Classic. Listen in!

This week, are talking the scandal that is T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach of Good Morning America. Both are allegedly having an affair while still married to their respective spouses for over 10 years. The story is messy and plain wrong on so many levels, but we all have an opinion on the matter. Listen in!

In episode 15, Valentine's Day shows up differently for each of our Girlfriends. Toni gets a card from Todd with an image of black people running in a field, and she's extremely offended. Maya is struggling with being single on the holiday, Lynn is still struggling with her partner's celibacy, and Joan's day ends on a sour note when she discovers Ellis has baby momma drama.

In episode 16, Maya moves into her first solo apartment, discovers her divorce is final and for the first time, sleeps with someone who is not her husband; sleeps her neighbor. William finally tells Monica he quit his job, but she decides to give him another chance. And Joan is either being verbally harassed or encouragingly challenged by her new boss and senior partner, Sharon.

We try something different by talking about ways in which we have or would handle similar situations from each episode. Listen in!

Lisa has five nieces and one nephew that she has helped raise along with her sisters, and cherishes every moment she gets to be a pivotal part of their lives. Sharing her struggles and triumphs of being a guardian, Lisa believes that the relationship she has with her sisters, along with the the respect they have for her input truly makes the old adage: "it takes a village" all that more precious. But more than anything, she wishes that her contributions allow her nieces and nephew to find comfort in knowing she spoke life into them through it all.
