  • #27 Sh1t Stories Part 2 - Wastepocalypse

The uncensored and frankly disgusting story of how the White Basement became the Brown Basement. Probably best to avoid this one on a full stomach!

Literally the only thing that could tempt Smit to come back on was the prospect of cracking jokes at my expense about the literal shit show that happened in our gym when a waste pipe from our flats burst!

WARNING - foul language and a fouler story awaits...

  • #19 From Shaolin Temple Student to Sports Science Coach

I connected with John Hickey via Instagram after watching one of his reels on Fight Sport specific strength and conditioning. Something told me to reach out to him and within a couple of days we recorded this conversation.

John shared the most fantastic story of his journey into Martial Arts; from a drug addicted school dropout on a downwards spiral to a Shaolin Martial Arts student living, training and working in Communist China and then on to Thailand to train and fight Muay Thai before returning to the UK to attain a Sports Science Degree opening a Thai Boxing gym and setting up MMAdojo in Finchley London.

As a life long fan of Martial Arts this conversation was an absolute privilege to be part of, it was like reading a good novel, which is something that I haven't actually done for a long time. John's candor, insight, intellect and story telling ability are incredibly engaging and vividly colourful.

We did also get into to the Science behind the Fight Specific training that he developed and now teaches, how he developed it, why it's so effective and how you can implement it into your own training regime. Forget the Bro Science, John dropped some real Science.

So whether you want to super charge your training or take a technicolored trip to the birth place of Kung Fu... this one is a must listen.

About White Basement Podcast

From the publisher's feed

The White Basement Podcast was born from a collaboration between a couple of forty something friends who had to move our Brazilian JiuJitsu practice into a private garage gym, in order to continue training and chatting, during the lockdown. The gym became affectionately known as 'The White Basement' and the regular training we undertook kept us fit, active, healthy and sane!
