Most people believe that Jesus was a real person who lived in first-century Palestine. But what about the stories told of him in the four Gospels? Do they present an authentic account of Jesus’ life and teaching, or should we think of them as late and unreliable texts that have changed over time? On this program, Shane Rosenthal discusses these questions with Cambridge scholar Peter Williams. In his book Can We Trust the Gospels?, Dr. Williams makes a case for the authenticity and historical reliability of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

When sharing the faith with others, should we primarily talk about Jesus or our own religious experience? In other words, should we focus on the gospel of Christ as we find it unpacked in the New Testament with all it’s related facts and doctrines, or should we focus on our personal testimonies, explaining to others what God has done in our own lives? Shane Rosenthal put this question to attendees of the National Religious Broadcasters convention, and the hosts listen to and react to all the various responses (originally aired 06-14-09).

Why do you believe Christianity is true? Shane Rosenthal put this question to attendees at the National Religious Broadcasters convention, and you’ll probably be surprised by the answers he received. During the first half of the program, Michael Horton discusses the responses to this poll with Doug Powell, author of The Holman QuickSource Guide to Christian Apologetics. Then, for the remainder of the program, Mike discusses these issues further with the rest of the panel (originally aired 06-07-09).

Contemporary culture is anything but neutral. In fact, it frequently promotes ways of thinking and behaving that are contrary to Scripture. So if we’re not intentional about our faith, we will be conformed to the dogmas and values of our age. But in Romans 12:2 Paul instructs Christians saying, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” On this episode, Shane Rosenthal attempts to flesh out the implications of this passage in our present-day context as he continues his conversation with Brett Kunkle, co-author of A Practical Guide to Culture: Helping the Next Generation Navigate Today’s World.

Since God has chosen to save a remnant by grace, how are we to know who really belongs to this group? How can we know if we ourselves are of the elect? In their continuing discussion of Romans 10, the hosts tackle this question by focusing on God's ordained means of salvation, namely, that of the preached Word (originally aired 09-10-06).

Spending a day at the ocean can be a wonderful experience, but it can also be dangerous. Sometimes the undercurrents can be deceptive, and the waves punishing. As a result, parents must warn their kids about these dangers, and watch them closely as they head into the water. According to Brett Kunkle, co-author of A Practical Guide to Culture, this is a great analogy for how we should raise our kids in today’s secular culture. We need to both protect and prepare the next generation to navigate all the cultural waves and tides without drowning. Shane Rosenthal talks with Brett Kunkle on this episode.
