What is the proper biblical relationship between zeal and knowledge? Which is more important? In this edition of the White Horse Inn, the hosts examine the opening verses of Romans 10 and discuss Paul's concern about pursuing zeal without knowledge in their continuing series through the Romans Revolution (originally aired 09-03-06).

Artificial Intelligence is already changing the world as we know it, but how will it change the future? Is it possible that humans will one day be able to create a thinking machine that has a will of its own? And if so, will this machine become a kind of super-intellect that ends up controlling all of our actions? What does it mean to be a conscious living being in the first place? Shane Rosenthal discusses these and other questions with Oxford mathematician, John Lennox, author of 2084: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Humanity.

Is there such a thing as free will? Does God look down the corridors of time and choose those people he sees will eventually choose to follow him? How are we to understand grace, foreknowledge, election and predestination? These important questions will be addressed in our continued study of Romans 9 (originally aired 08-27-06).
Every year it seems a new book or movie is released that recounts an individual’s brief tour of heaven. Are there any common threads that emerge when evaluating the history of these kinds of reports? What should we believe about the afterlife, and how do stories like these compare with what we find Scripture? On this program, Shane Rosenthal talks again with St. Louis University professor Michael McClymond about how the reporting of near-death experiences has shaped, and continues to shape, contemporary views of the afterlife.
On this special edition of the White Horse Inn we’re honoring the life and legacy of J.I. Packer by featuring a previously unaired interview that Shane Rosenthal recorded with him on the state of contemporary Christianity.
For centuries Protestants have rejected the doctrine of purgatory, claiming that it’s taught nowhere in Scripture and that it actually undermines crucial doctrines related to Christ’s all-sufficient sacrifice. Because he suffered in our place and died for our sins “once for all” (Heb. 10:10), Christians have no need of any additional purging or purification. So how and when did the doctrine of purgatory develop, and what sort of changes is this doctrine currently undergoing in the world of Catholicism? Shane Rosenthal discusses this issue with Michael McClymond, author of The Devil’s Redemption.
Why did so many of the Jews reject Christ and his sacrificial death if he was Israel's true messiah? Did God's plan fail? The answer to this dilemma, according to Paul, lies in the doctrine of election. In this edition of the White Horse Inn, the hosts discuss Romans 9, as they continue the Romans Revolution (originally aired 08-20-06).

Unlike most religions, Christianity gambles its plausibility on certain datable events. Jesus not only died for our sins but he “suffered under Pontius Pilate.” Most of our churches, however, end up focusing on the practical and therapeutic aspects of faith, and rarely, if ever, address questions related to “the Jesus of history.” So how can we be sure that Jesus ever really existed in the first place, or whether the Gospels can be trusted as authentic eyewitness reports? Shane Rosenthal discusses these questions and more with John Dickson, author of Is Jesus History?

God's love is clearly revealed to us in the death of his Son. But if God loves us, why do we still suffer? In this program, the hosts deal with the second half of Romans 8 and discuss the meaning of sharing in Christ's suffering (originally aired 08-13-06).

Today’s post-Christian culture is running into dead ends and fatal contradictions. For example, many people today believe that gender is a matter of subjective preference rather than objective biological considerations. But can we apply this idea to a person’s age? Can a man identify as a 15-year-old boy when he’s really 50? Shane Rosenthal recently asked people on the street what they thought about this and other related issues, and he discusses their answers with special guest, Gene Veith, author of Post-Christian: A Guide to Contemporary Thought and Culture.
