As we've seen thus far in our Romans series, Paul’s gospel is revolutionary. But did Jesus teach this same message? What about James and other New Testament writers? What about various passages in the Bible that seem to teach salvation by works? That's this week on the White Horse Inn (originally aired 05-28-06).

In light of the fact that there are so many interpretations to choose from, how do we properly read and study the Bible? On this program Shane Rosenthal and Mike Brown, co-author of Sacred Bond: Covenant Theology Explored, discuss a number of approaches to avoid when reading and applying Scripture, and they also recommend a variety of helpful tools and concepts that will make your Bible study much more effective. At the beginning of the program, Mike also gives us a brief update about his church’s situation in Milan, Italy.
In Romans chapter 4 we encounter the crucial word "imputation," a doctrine many Christians may not be familiar with. What does this word mean, and why is it so crucial to understand? How will today's pastors score when we ask them to explain the term? It's time once again for the Romans Revolution (originally aired 05-07-06)

Many archaeologists today claim that the ancient Israelites were never actually in Egypt and that the entire story of the Exodus is just an old legend. But is this really the case? What can we learn about the Exodus from history and archaeology? Have there been any discoveries that corroborate the Bible’s account of this monumentally significant event? On this program, Shane Rosenthal discusses these questions with Egyptologist David Rohl, author of Exodus: Myth or History. Even though he’s an agnostic, after years of research he has concluded that the biblical account of the Exodus was based on real historical personalities and events.

On this program, Shane Rosenthal talks with writer and director Brandon Kimber about his American Gospel documentary series. His first film, American Gospel: Christ Alone, explored the problem of moralistic preaching and issues related to the prosperity gospel. His new documentary, American Gospel: Christ Crucified, focuses on the nature of Christ’s atonement and presents a running dialogue between advocates of progressive forms of Christianity with a variety of more traditional Reformation perspectives.

Not long ago, Netflix released a film about the life of Pentecostal preacher Carlton Pearson who stopped believing in hell after he claimed that God spoke to him and revealed that Jesus’ death on the cross saves everyone in the world, including unbelievers. In fact, in an NPR interview, Pearson asked, “How can mercy … and torment endure forever? One would cancel out the other.” But is this logic sound? What does the Bible really teach about the afterlife? On this program, Shane Rosenthal continues his conversation with St. Louis University professor Michael McClymond, author of The Devil’s Redemption.

In a recent issue of the New York Times, an article by David Bentley Hart raised the question, “Why Do People Believe in Hell?” In this article, the author claims that “no truly accomplished New Testament scholar … believes that later Christianity’s opulent mythology of God’s eternal torture chamber is clearly present in the scriptural texts.” But is this really the case? Why does there seem to be renewed interest in this idea of universal salvation? Shane Rosenthal discusses this issue with Michael McClymond, professor of Modern Christianity at St. Louis University, and the author of The Devil’s Redemption: A New History and Interpretation of Christian Universalism.
