WHL This Week - Radio Edition, chats with Seattle Thunderbirds and Calgary Flames prospect Lucas Ciona.  He's the WHL Player of the Week as he and his Thunderbirds are on a redemption tour following two big wins over a pair of rivals last week. He'll join us off the top.

The Brandon Wheat Kings have been trailblazing through the BC Division for the first time in four years.  They are the first team through BC from the East Division since before the pandemic.  More with F Jake Chaisson who was back in his home province and Head Coach Don MacGillivary.

Finally, some very unique theme nights are coming to a WHL rink near you. Director of Marketing for the WHL Alyson Chambers updates us on a new partnership called RE/MAX Presents: Nickelodeon Night for Children’s Miracle Network. These nights ahead are sure to stoke not only imagination, but memories as well. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition focuses in on three players with different stories.  First, Logan Stankoven has been returned to the Kamloops Blazers after spending nearly five weeks with the Dallas Stars.  The reigning CHL Player of the Year will attempt to lead his hometown team to the Memorial Cup Presented by KiA which they will host in the spring.

Three year Kelowna Rockets F Pavel Novak has won a big battle off the ice.  After a five month fight, he has been declared cancer free. The Minnesota Wild prospect updates his situation from back home in the Czech Republic.

Saskatoon Blades F Connor Roulette has been named the WHL Player of the Week.  Traded to Saskatoon from Seattle to start the season, Roulette has tapped into his Indigenous roots for inspiration. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, previews the upcoming 2022 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects game set for Vancouver January 25th, 2023.  Director and Vice-President of NHL Central Scouting Dan Maar joins us to talk about having all the top prospects on the same ice and when they plan on releasing their Players to Watch list later month.

Matt Bardsley is the new General Manager of the Spokane Chiefs.  He will be in charge of a Chiefs rebuild after previous WHL stops in Portland and Kamloops.  He'll be our guest.

Finally, after a terrific rookie season, Kelowna Rockets F Andrew Cristall has started his 17 year-old season with a WHL Player of the Week award.  Five points in two games led his team.  He will be our guest to wrap up the show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a closer look at one of the WHL's top contenders this year in the Seattle Thunderbirds.  T-Birds General Manager Bil LaForge will be our guest to talk about this year's edition of the team after advancing to the WHL Championship series last spring.

Former WHL Player Cody Beach is now a pro hockey official. He's found another path to the NHL and shares his story and transition from player to referee in conversation with James Gallo.

Finally, what an opening weekend for Portland Winterhawks F Gabe Klassen. Six goals in two games to begin the season.  He's the WHL Player of the Week and will join us to wrap up the show.

It's our first WHL This Week - Radio Edition of the season.  We begin the year by hearing from WHL Commissioner Ron Robison.  The WHL is looking forward to bringing back Conference play, hosting both the  2023 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the 2023 Memorial Cup Presented by KiA.  We will discuss the season ahead.

Regina Pats F Connor Bedard heads into the season as the favourite to be selected 1st overall in 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The generational talent talks about his off-season, the year ahead and what his goals are. 

Finally, the Kamloops Blazers are the host team for the 2023 Memorial Cup presented by KiA. Blazers General Manager & Head Coach Shaun Clouston will join us to discuss how he plans to manage the year ahead.  

WHL This Week - Radio Edition puts a wrap on the WHL season for another year.  We will head back to Edmonton for the Oil Kings on-ice celebration following a game six victory over Seattle to claim the Ed Chynoweth Cup.  Hear from the players and coaches following a 2-0 Edmonton win to send them to the 2022 Memorial Cup presented by KiA.

Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Kirt Hill will join us to discuss the year and give us a preview of the Memorial Cup.  Hill made several key acquisitions over the course of the season to turn the hockey club into a championship one.  We will talk about the moves he made along the way. 

Finally, the 2022 NHL Entry Draft is set for Montreal next month.  Winnipeg ICE F Matthew Savoie is the highest rated WHL skater according to NHL Central Scouting at #4. He's fresh off the NHL Combine in Buffalo and will join us to preview the NHL Draft.  

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps the first four games of the 2022 WHL Championship Series as both the Edmonton Oil Kings and Seattle Thunderbirds head back to Edmonton for the remainder of the series.  Edmonton also had some special guests in the dressing room ahead of Game two. WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps the 2021-22 WHL Awards Ceremony held virtually online this week.  Hear from every award winner including double winner Logan Stankoven of the Kamloops Blazers who captured the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for the WHL Player of the Year and the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy for the WHL's Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The battle for the Ed Chynoweth Cup opens this weekend in Edmonton between the Oil Kings and the Seattle Thunderbirds.  It will be the first Conference cross-over game in the WHL since March of 2020. Oil Kings F Justin Sourdif will preview the series.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, features Canadian Hockey League President Dan MacKenzie following the announcement of the 2023 Memorial Cup presented by KiA being awarded to the Kamloops Blazers.  A special ceremony was held ahead of game five of the Western Conference Championship in Kamloops. We will recap the night and hear from the CHL President.

The Edmonton Oil Kings are the first team through to the Ed Chynoweth Cup after winning the Eastern Conference Championship in five games.  Also, some overtime magic in the Western Conference Championship between Seattle and Kamloops. We'll get you up-to-date.

It was WHL and CHL history last week when North Vancouver's Chloe Primerano was selected in the 13th round of the WHL Prospects Draft by the Vancouver Giants. She becomes the first woman skater selected in a CHL Draft.  Chloe will join us to talk about the Draft and the whirlwind since.

WHL This Week - recaps the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.  We will take a look at the top five selections and hear from each team on their choices.   We will also be joined by 1st overall selection by the Medicine Hat Tigers, Gavin McKenna.  The native of Whitehorse, Yukon will continue his journey in the WHL.

We will update you on the chase for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.  Four teams remain, we will preview the Eastern and Western Conference Championship Series.  Seattle meets Kamloops in the West.  Edmonton and Winnipeg will battle in the East.

We will also be joined by Edmonton Oil Kings Head Coach Brad Lauer.  The series starts in Winnipeg this weekend and Brad will look at their playoff run to the Eastern Conference Championship and the series ahead with the ICE.
