WHL This Week - Radio Edition, checks in with Portland Winterhawks Head Coach / GM Mike Johnston as he approaches a WHL coaching milestone. Sitting with 499 career coaching wins, Johnston's Winterhawks are ranked among the best teams in the CHL early in the season. Mike shares his roster thoughts and how he wants his team to play this season.

Prince George Cougars rookie F Terik Parascak is the WHL leader in points heading into the weekend after a breakout start to the 2023-24 season.  His season includes a six-point game in Victoria  and his 15 points lead all WHL scorers heading into the weekend. He's the WHL Rookie of the Week and will be our guest.

Fresh from a return from the NHL's Seattle Kraken, Moose Jaw Warriors F Jagger Firkus has been named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week.  He'll wrap up our show.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, hears from WHL Vice-President of Hockey Richard Doerksen on some rule changes for the new season.  Doerksen -, now into his 46th year with the League -  will also comment on the contributing factors on a 25 game-suspension handed out earlier this week for check-from-behind last Saturday in Vancouver.

Calgary Hitmen F London Hoilett is balancing hockey and a budding music career.  His song "Vibe 2 Night" was featured on the WHL's Opening Week video. It's part of collection of songs he has written and recorded under the artist name "Ty Kiddo". The Winnipeg native is making a name for himself on and off the ice. He'll be our guest.

Finally, the 1st WHL Tempo Player of the Week is Zac Funk of the Prince George Cougars. His opening weekend included his first ever WHL Hat-trick. Funk will close out this week's show.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, kicks off a new season with WHL Commisioner Ron Robison.  As he enters his 24th season as WHL Commisioner, this year will be his last.  We will look back at his tenure, and look ahead as well.

Spokane Chiefs F Berkly Catton is poised for a big season.  As a top 2024 NHL Draft Prospect, the former #1 pick overall in the WHL Prospects Draft is coming into a new year after leading Canada to a gold medal this summer at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in dramatic fashion.  He'll be our guest.

Finally, Medicine Hat Tigers F Gavin McKenna is a rising star and still only 15 years-old. Not NHL draft eligible until 2026, McKenna is ready for his first full-time season in the WHL after showing well in 16 games last year in Medicine Hat.  The native of Whitehorse, YK takes us through a busy summer and how he's approaching the season ahead. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, updates the WHL Championship series presented by Nutrien.  The Seattle Thundebirds holding a 3-1 series stranglehold over the Winnipeg ICE. Hear from both players and coaches ahead of game five.

The Portland Winterhawks and G Morgan Stickney made history at the 2023 CHL Prospects Draft.  The Redondo Beach, Calif. native became the first American-born female player to be drafted in the WHL when the Winterhawks selected her in the 10th round, #215 overall.  We will hear from her on being drafted and her connection to the Winterhawks.

We are just a week away from the 2023 Memorial Cup Presented by KIA in Kamloops, BC.  We will check in on the planning and execution from the local host committee Chair Norm Daley.  It's the first time Kamloops hosted the event since 1995.

Three-time Memorial Cup Champion and Calgary Flames Assistant Coach Ryan Huska is one of only four players all-time in the CHL to win three Memorial Cups.  Ryan takes us for a trip down memory lane as we preview this year's tournament looking back on his titles from 1992, 1994 and 1995.  

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.  Hear from the 1st overall selection of the Prince Albert Raiders, D Jaxon Rudolph.  Prince Albert held the 1st and 2nd overall picks. We will recap the top picks in this year's Draft and hear from the teams who made the selections.

The 2023 WHL Championship Series presented by Nutrien gets underway Friday night in Winnipeg, MB.  ICE defender and Nashville Predators prospect Graham Sward will give us a series preview. We will also hear from members of the Seattle Thunderbirds after they claimed a second straight Western Conference Championship.

Finally, the WHL has announced the last of it's major award winners for the 2022-23 season. We'll hear from them.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, features the Winnipeg ICE advancing to the WHL Championship Ed Chynoweth Cup Final after defeating Saskatoon in the Eastern Conference Championship presented by Nutrien.  Hear from ICE Coach James Patrick and captain Carson Lambos. Winnipeg will open the Championship on home ice next weekend. 

We will update the Western Conference Championship presented by Nutrien as the Seattle Thunderbirds take a 3-1 series lead back to home ice for game five.

Longtime WHL referee Chris Crich has been named the Allen Paradice Memorial Trophy for the WHL's Official of the Year for a second year in a row. The veteran of over 800 WHL regular season games will be our guest to talk about the award, his longevity and the sacrifices you make along the way.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes you back to Saskatoon for a thrilling game seven between the Blades and the Red Deer Rebels.  The Blades becoming just the third team in WHL history to win a series after being down 3-0. Hear from Head Coach Brennan Sonne and more on the heroics of Spencer Shugrue.

The Winnipeg ICE now host the Saskatoon Blades in the Eastern Conference Championship presented by Nutrien. ICE veteran F Connor McClennon previews the series after a hard fought win over the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Kamloops Blazers D Olen Zellweger is having quite the post-season. His 21 points ties him for the lead in playoff scoring.  He's also the WHL Player of the Week after a playoff record-tying performance in game four against Portland.  He'll be our guest as he looks ahead to the Western Conference Championship against Seattle. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, breaks down the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings from a WHL perspective with TSN's Craig Button.  Currently covering the IIHF U-18 World Championships for TSN in Switzerland, Button leads off our show.

We update the 2023 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien with a look at the Seattle Thunderbirds advancing.  We hear from reigning WHL Player of the Week Logan Stankoven after his Blazers advanced past the Portland Winterhawks in round two.

The Moose Jaw Warriors and Winnipeg ICE head back to the Winnipeg capital tied 2-2 in their best-of-seven series.  Hear from Warriors F and Seattle Kraken prospect Jagger Firkus as the series turns into a best-of-three.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps a game seven showdown between the Saskatoon Blades & Regina Pats that saw the Blades advance to round two of the WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.  The elimination of the Regina Pats may also mark the end of the WHL path for Connor Bedard. He's projected as the first overall pick in the NHL Draft this summer and make the jump next season. Hear from Bedard as he addressed local media for a final time this season.

The Red Deer Rebels meet up with the Blades now in round two.  Hear from 2023 NHL Draft eligible F Kalan Lind on a first round victory over the Calgary Hitmen and looking forward to the Rebels round two match-up.

When the Kamloops Blazers take on the Portland Winterhawks in the second round series, longtime WHL Coach Don Hay has experience on both sides of the rivalry going back to the 90's.  After serving as an Assistant Coach in Portland the past four seasons, Hay is back with the Blazers and breaks down the series.

Prince Albert Raiders Head Coach Jeff Truitt's season isn't over yet.  He's been tabbed by Hockey Canada to coach Canada's U-18 team at the upcoming IIHF U-18 World Championships in Sweden.  He'll be our guest.

2023 NHL Draft eligible F Brayden Yager is our guest after his Moose Jaw Warriors eliminated Lethbridge in the 1st round best-of-seven series. 

We take a look at some of the WHL Year End Award nominees and Player of the Month winners.  To close out the show, we  hear from Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt who will lead the management team for Canada's World Junior team for the 2024 tournament in Sweden.
