Christine and Peter ponder whether she was actually at a North by Northwest screening presented by Guillermo Del Toro.

They discuss the effect of casting superstars like Cary Grant and Harrison Ford in roles where they have to be vulnerable and sympathetic.  Did Tommy Lee deserve his oscar?  

Do plots really matter in action films?  They discuss how Hitchcock got away with his mcguffin movies.

Peter ponders whether the U.S. Marshals really need to be in the Fugitive.  What’s the best way to adapt a Tv series into a film?

Christine wonders why Kimble’s wife was killed and was bored by the old man fight at the end of the Fugitive.  She also talks about how North By Northwest made her hate grey suits.

This week we look at Movies about  Filmmaking with Ed Wood (1994) and Baadasssss! (2003)  Which presents a better picture about making a film?

Christine and Peter discuss which kind of biopic works best; one which covers someone’s entire life or one which focuses on a small, important period?  They both rip apart Bohemian Rhapsody and discuss their favourite biopics.

What is the importance of truth vs an interesting story for a biopic?

Peter discusses his love of Landau as Legosi which he finds is the heart of the film.  Christine discusses the therapy Mario Van Peebles had by making a biopic of his father. 

Can we really root for a director who seems to be very untalented or unpleasant and angry most of the time?  What are the important things to make a movie feel like a period piece?

This week we look at Aliens that have infiltrated our society with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) and They Live (1988).  Which movie gives a better sense of paranoia and the underlying political messages of their times?

Christine and Peter discuss McCarthyism, Reaganomics and the politics of each movie. 

Peter talks about his love of the crazy fight in They Live and how the South Park parody put him in stitches.  He also reveals that he loved the 80's as a kid growing up and only later learned how destructive the decade was in terms of politics and poverty.

Christine discusses how there was a lot of talk about subliminal advertising in the 80s and how the unsettling endings make her robot heart happy.  She also talks about her love for the Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake from 1978 and shocking moments from that film.

Lots of reminiscing about going to video and record stores.   Christine and Peter talk about the future of movies and music and rag on Netflix for it’s terrible categorization and choices.

Christine talks about going to a whole host of different video stores in her youth and enjoying the amazing video box art.

Peter talks fondly of working at Bay St. Video and that magical first night working alone walking up and down the aisles and a story about the old porn room.

Christine talks about going to the World’s Biggest bookstore and the Tower records at Yonge and Queen to get the Uk imports. Peter talks about his youth of going to Cheapies, Sam the Record man and comic stores on Queen every weekend and admitting he probably spent more money on laserdiscs than music.

There's a back and forth about the effect of "celebrities" in documentaries and an epilogue about the future of movie theatres.

This is a very special episode where Christine and Peter choose their Top 10 songs from Movies.  They limited it to songs that were specifically written for the movie. 

Which song provides best feel of the movie?  Criteria can include movie title, movie plot, mood or tone of the film itself.   They give their reasons for each choice and sometimes it's because it's just a good song but often there's a personal story behind them.

Some of the choices may shock, surprise and/or horrify you.    Hope you enjoy.

For this week's episode, we look at Time Travel Movies with Back to the Future (1985) and Looper (2012).  Which movie uses time travel tropes the best?

They talk about the best Tiff opening night party ever where Peter laments not going to the room full of pies and Christine talks about eating more oysters than ever.

Time travel rules are discussed at length and whether Peter and Christine would go to the future or past with a time machine.  They also discuss Joseph Gordon Levitt's distracting nose prosthetic and Christine is once again angered at Emily Blunt's character getting romantic in a a time loop movie.

They also talk about the genius of Back to the Future 2 and Crispin Glover for the third time!

They talk about Sergio Leone and Michael Mann as auteurs and about casting against type and Tom Cruise in general.

Peter talks about Pan and Scan and how one shot is actually more effective that way in Once Upon a Time in the West.   He gushes about his love for Morricone again and about the lack of themes in music scores today.  Christine laments on how movies do not have theme songs incorporating the title or theme of the movie like they did in the 80's.
