Today we’re going to be talking about visual impairment in children. Typically, we think of older adults having problems with their vision, but children can also suffer from visual disturbances…and they often go undetected. Perhaps its not until children experience headaches or begin to squint when trying to see the board, that we take notice.

However, there is much more to visual impairments, than meets the eye…no pun intended. Perhaps your child has difficulty paying attention in school, and has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, when in reality they are having difficulty seeing. We do know that vision problems can create learning problems.

So I’ve invited my guest, Dr. Jennifer Zolman, a developmental optometrist to join our conversation. Dr. Zolman obtained her Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, which she is currently a member. She is on the American Optometric Association’s InfantSEE committee and the South Carolina InfantSEE State Leader promoting infant exams and detection of early eye diseases.
