Have you ever wondered why passenger planes don't have parachutes? Well, parachutes large enough to safely land an entire plane would be incredibly heavy, and that extra weight would reduce the number of seats available for passengers. In the event of an emergency, panic would quickly set in among passengers, making it unlikely that they would be able to properly use their parachutes. It would be impractical and potentially dangerous to have untrained individuals attempting parachute landings during an emergency. Instead of individual parachutes, some lightweight aircraft have whole-plane parachutes installed.
