This week, we’re diving into a virtue that has become a surprising rarity these days: kindness. Whether it’s mowing back the weeds on the side of the road, or helping someone tow their car hours out of your way, acts of generosity seem to be getting fewer and farther between – but we’re here to get to the bottom of it.

Kevin kicks off the episode with a couple recent examples of this that took him by surprise. He tells us about these shocking feats of generosity, and Matt relates with a recording breaking run from Boston, MA to Cooperstown, NY.

There are some valid reasons to be apprehensive about being so giving, though, like the likelihood of being taken advantage of, and we explore that exact possibility as it happened to Matt in his travels. There’s also much more of a dynamic at play to these things than people realize, and how you receive help can be just as important as giving it.

After that, Kevin gives a topical answer to relate it all to the creator space through Captain Dissolution. He’s been making videos for years on YouTube debunking various visual effects, and we go deep into the core philosophy of the motivations required to do something like that.

People aren’t always grateful for your help, though, and Matt gives us a perfect example from his vigilante days in Whales. Kevin highlights the importance of contributing in a culture of receiving, and we highlight the importance of actually executing on your ideas.
