In order to deal with healing from narcissistic abuse, it’s imperative that you work with an expert in the field and that you have a plan. Talk therapy is just not good enough.

The gold standard therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy, which is a wonderful tool, however, it’s not always enough. It doesn’t go to the cause of the cognitions and how they were formed, and it doesn’t address the emotional injuries that they inflict on the person, who is left thinking and feeling like they are not good enough or not loveable enough.

Professionals, unfortunately, will often avoid the cause because they think that it is time to move ahead into the here and now, into the future.

It’s important to go backwards to go forward, so you can’t go jumping into the future until you’ve resolved the past.
