We’re BACK after a brief week-long break to discuss the reason for our hiatus: LONG FORM CONTENT. Kevin and Matt recently uploaded a full 50 minutes of educational goodness over on Vsauce2, and if you haven’t taken a look at that yet, you should do so RIGHT NOW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okOfvMY5wOI&t=17s&ab_channel=Vsauce2
Kevin kicks off our discussion by talking about the near-180 he’s taken when it comes to conceptualizing just what a YouTube video should look like. We talk about the rapidly changing tastes of the average online consumer, and what it takes to actually get a long video like this RIGHT.
Then we dive into a conversation “Kitchen Nightmares,” and it’s actually a lot more relevant than you might think. We emphasize the importance of change, and just how crucial it is to continued success. Kevin talks a bit about the difficulty he had embracing change on Vsauce2, and how it actually paid off in the end.
We’ve been talking for a while about quantity when it comes to making videos, but now it’s time to talk QUALITY. Sure, making a long form video can be tough in and of itself, but making sure there’s actually some worthwhile meat on the proverbial bones is where it really gets hard. Matt and Kevin talk about the extensive research that goes into the Vsauce2 production process, and how important it is to the finished product.
We close out the episode by highlighting some of the logistical difficulties that come with making longer content, how important it is to fill out your niche so that you can “rise to the top,” and Matt and Kevin recount the tale of the stolen wedding Slim Jims.
Thanks to everyone who tuned in live this week, and a huge shout out to our ever-supportive patrons. We’ll see you all again next week!
