He was a constant box office draw and is listed amongst the 25 greatest actors of classic American cinema. Some of his best-known roles are "Sunset Boulevard", "Sabrina" and "The Bridge on the River Kwai". The latter made him one of the first male actors to receive more than $1m for a single movie.
