The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) has named the following area students listed on the fall 2025 Provost’s Honor Roll and Dean’s Honor Roll. Provost’s Honor Roll — Josephine Gleason of Floresville. To be named to the Provost’s Honor Roll, a student must achieve a 3.85 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale. Dean’s Honor Roll — Coy Mainz of Floresville; Logan Maytum of La Vernia; and Brooke Deagen and Kimbree Wrinkle of Stockdale. To be named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, a student must achieve a 3.5 – 3.849 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

The Nixon-Smiley powerlifting teams turned in strong performances on Feb. 7, at the Karnes City Invitational, competing against a deep field of schools from across the region. On the boys’ side, the Mustangs finished second overall as a team, narrowly missing first place with 34 points, just one point behind Kenedy. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs delivered a strong all-around performance Feb. 6, defeating the Luling Eagles 65–31 at home. Nixon-Smiley controlled the game from start to finish, using defensive pressure and unselfish play to build a comfortable lead and extend it throughout the night. Joe White led the Mustangs with 17 points, 6 assists, and 7 steals, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. Congratulations to the six area athletes selected to play in the 2026 San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game, presented by Valero. The students from East Central, Floresville, La Vernia, and Poth are among 134 high school athletes from 62 area schools on Sunday, April 12, at Northside Gym.
