When I am asked about what I would do differently early in my career, I respond with "I would have prioritized self-care more."
For the first three years of my professional career, I didn't take a real vacation and was known for grinding long hours in the office. No knock against grinding, I'm all for it, but it must be balanced with taking time for yourself.

Once I took my first real vacation, my entire perspective shifted and I made self-care a top priority. The result? I felt better about myself and my career trajectory skyrocketed even further than before, contrary to what I had believed in.

Taking time for yourself allows you to be the best you which in turn allows you to be the best employee, leader, husband, wife, you name it. Learn more about how simple it is!

Leadership is not defined by a title and everybody has the ability to be a good leader. Being a good leader boils down to executing on simple things!

I love the response from a Three Star Marine General when asked about what makes a good leader. He said this "The sign of a good leader is someone who asks how you're doing and actually cares about the response."

I believe that we often associate leadership as something complex. There are complex situations, no doubt, but the art of leadership is simple. It boils down to caring about people.

It can be very easy to spread yourself extremely thin without even realizing it. In addition, it can be very easy to give all of yourself to someone else and realize that you're giving nothing to yourself.

We cannot solve everyone's problems, nor should we attempt to. It's important to be there for others, but not at the cost of your mental and emotional health.

Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm!

I have experienced this myself with Charles on three separate occasions and completely endorse the work that he does.

It's very easy to become concerned with what people think about you, especially in today's day and age. I've found that the easiest way to overcome this is by challenging yourself to do things that you're uncomfortable with until they become comforting.

I used to be concerned about what people would think about me while running on the side of the road, pumping myself up for some motivation. By continuing to do this, not only did I not care what people thought, but I also learned that I was creating a lot of false dialogues in my head. A lot of people who I would have deemed to think I was "nuts" for running and yelling to pump myself up have come up to me and said that seeing me on the roads has motivated them to be better.

This has helped me not care about what people may think of me in the normal world, too. Be like an owl, don't give a hoot about what someone may think about you. Most of the time, you're creating a false dialogue in your head.

David Goggins is a man who often needs very little introduction as he has inspired millions of people around the world to master their mindset and construct an armored mind. He has defied the odds in many ways after growing up in a broken and abusive household, struggling through school, and even surpassing 300lbs on the scale and not caring much about physical fitness.

Fast forward, David became inspired to become a Navy SEAL, a task that many deemed impossible. Through mastering his mind, David became a Navy SEAL and one of the most notable ultra-runners in the world.

In his book, Can't Hurt Me, he details the methods as to how to mastered his mind and how you can apply them in your life. I have relied on teachings from this book many times to overcome physical and mental battles, and believe that anyone may benefit from the lessons that he has mapped out.
