Episode #13 takes us on an upward journey from being on life support to becoming an author, inspirational speaker, and academic triumph coach. Melqaam Shaw found himself on life support at Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC on August 21st, 2011, a date that served as a wake-up call for him and altered the course of his life for the better.
He thought he was going to be meeting a woman for a few drinks that night and ended up being attacked by multiple people; fortunately this incident served as a blessing in disguise. Prior to this incident, he was living a misguided life and following the path that he believed he was destined for; becoming the biggest and hardest dealer in town.
While he was on life support, he saw the light and has made the best of his second chance at life. He moved out of South Carolina and found himself at Howard University in Washington, D.C., the crème de le crème of HBCUs. Surrounding himself with an abundance of successful people that possessed growth mindsets served as a catalyst for his transformation.
Three things that you'll quickly notice in Melqaam: Passion, Confidence, Grit. He attributes building confidence after his incident to investing in his personal development. Personal development is his religion as he says, following a routine everyday that consists of reading and writing down a plan.
"If you hang up on greatness, it may never call you again." - Melqaam Shaw
