Housing inventory in the Chicago area could increase this year after homebuilders started construction on additional new-home communities. Homebuilding firms began 40 new communities in the final quarter of last year. That’s above the typical 10-15 new projects. Suburban areas like Plainfield, Tinley Park and Kenosha will be among the cities to see more inventory later this year. New home sales fell last year compared to 2023 and the lack of inventory was one of the reasons why.
