We Are the Same – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1911 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from an Italian Proverb, and it is, "After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box."
    We Are the Same
Maybe it is my simplistic mindset or a healthy self-image, but I have never looked at people in positions of power, rank, or influence as someone extra special or someone to be revered. For the most part, we all put our pants on one leg at a time. We all must eat and sleep to maintain life. At some point, we will all die leaving everything we have behind. Then, within a few years, most of us will be forgotten, no matter our station in life.
What is more important than who we are on earth is to realize that we all serve the one unique God who is Creator and Lord over all things. The fact that God made us to be His imagers means we all have the same access to His throne. We all are accountable to God. We are all unique in His sight and were created for His purpose.
We should recognize this regardless of our position or rank in this world. Yes, indeed, at the end of the game of life, the king and the pawn are placed in the same box. It is most important how well you played.
    Ephesians 2:8-10
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Called to Greatness – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1910 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Martin Luther King, Jr., and it is, “After one has discovered what he is called for, he should set out to do it with all of the power that he has in his system.”
    Called To Greatness
Within the Christian realm, our purpose in life is referred to as our calling. This is mainly used in certain circles when referring to those who feel they have been called to full-time ministry. I view it differently. As Christ-followers we are called to be builders of God’s Kingdom on earth, regardless of what we do for a living. The occupation of all Christ-followers is to be kingdom builders.
What we do for a living allows us to build God’s kingdom. This could be a job that we may refer to as an occupation, as long as it is not illegal or immoral and does not violate the precepts found in God’s Word. We could be a pastor, a business person, someone tending to the family at home, or any trade that brings value to the lives of others. It is not as critical as what you do for a living, but are you building God’s kingdom in the world you are placed in.
Therefore, regardless of your earthly calling, do the very best you can and in such a manner that it brings glory to God. In doing so, you will also be a kingdom builder, which is our highest calling.
    Ephesians 4:1-4
Therefore, I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

    Joy Magnified – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1909 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Henry Ward Beecher, and it is, “Affliction comes to the believer not to make him sad, but sober; not to make him sorry, but wise. Even as the plow enriches the field so that the seed is multiplied a thousand fold, so affliction should magnify our joy and increase our spiritual harvest.”
    Joy Magnified
Until we gain a proper perspective of affliction, we will always be discouraged, depressed, and playing the role of a victim. Everyone faces affliction during various seasons of life. No one is exempt. As Christ-followers, this is part of the maturation process. Affliction should bring a time of contemplation and wisdom. A seed will never grow unless it is first planted in soil that has been disrupted and turned inside-out. When a seed is planted, it not only produces a plant, but it will multiply that single seed into untold thousands. Yet, the seed must first endure hardship and even be destroyed so that new life can spring from its core. When affliction pierces our lives, it should magnify our joy and increase our harvest by laying down our lives to bring forth a harvest of blessings into the lives of others.
    John 12:24-26
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

    Fly Anyway – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1908 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Mary Kay Ash, and it is, "Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that, so it goes on flying anyway."
    Fly Anyway
Most times in life, our limitations to achieving are self-imposed. We don’t think we can do something, and sure enough, we can’t do it. However, the opposite is also true, just like the bumblebee, who by aerodynamic laws should not be able to fly.
Still, by God’s design and the bees’ determination, bees fly even though it is considered impossible. So don’t let your limitations nor the limitations of others stifle your drive for success. By God’s grace and power and your determination and persistence, fly anyway.
    Mark 10:27
Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

The Strong Wind of Adversity – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1907 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Arthur Golden, and it is, “Adversity is like a strong wind. I don’t mean just that it holds us back from places we might otherwise go. It also tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that afterward, we see ourselves as we really are, and not merely as we might like to be.”
      The Strong Wind of Adversity
If adversity is strong enough and lasts long enough, it will strip away all the chaff in our lives, so all that is left is the most solid. None of us like adversity, but it will purify us like the blazing heat of a smelter until all that is dross floats to the top to be scooped away from our lives. Adversity may delay us in life, but it will not prevent us from reaching what we most desire if that desire aligns with God’s precept found in His Word.
      Zechariah 13:9
I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure. I will refine them like silver and purify them like gold. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, "These are my people," and they will say, "The Lord is our God."

      Measure Greatness – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1906 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Lou Holtz, and it is, "Adversity is another way to measure the greatness of individuals. I never had a crisis that didn’t make me stronger."
      Measure Greatness
People usually don’t think of measuring greatness by the amount of adversity they or others experience, but it is often the driving force behind any greatness achieved. So while we may not seek out adversity, because that is never pleasant, we should not be overwhelmed by it either.
We need to view adversity through the proper lens, that it is a tool or lesson that will mature and refine us, so that we will be stronger. A crisis may seem to cripple us initially, especially if it is unexpected; however, if we draw our strength on God through the crisis, the crisis will make us stronger. Our strength comes from God, and it is He who will sustain us and make us stronger through the process.
      James 1:2-4
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

The Secret of Patience – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1905 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and it is, “Adopt the pace of Mother Nature; her secret is patience.”
      Secret of Patience
Our lives, especially in the western world, are fast-paced, rushing around to try and cram into each day as many activities as possible. While it may have slowed slightly during the pandemic as most people reassessed life, it appears to be resuming for many as hectic as it was before. Although I fall prey to this myself, as I grow older, I realize that an always-on, always busy lifestyle is not the type of life God intended for us.
Therefore, while we are to be diligent and work hard, if we follow the example of Jesus Christ, we will take time to pause from our business and invest time with God in prayer and meditation on His Word. We need to have patience in all things. If it is important enough, it will still be there after a time of restoration. Thus, let us purposely set time aside each day and week to stop, reflect, and meditate on all the good things that God has given to us. Let us then sing praises of gratitude to the giver of all that is good.
      2 Peter 3:8-9
But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, “Adverse criticism from a wise man does more good than the enthusiastic praise of a fool.”
      Adverse Criticism
If we surround ourselves with people who only praise us regardless of our performance, we will never have the capacity to grow and improve. On the other hand, if we freely associate with people who will be honest and forthright with us because they are concerned for our well-being, we will become much better. The key is to surround yourself with wise people as much as possible. It is of no benefit to have foolish people around us, even if they try to make us feel good, if they don’t have your best interest long-term at heart.
      Proverbs 27:6

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1903 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Phil Ware, and it is, "Addiction is a God-hunger directed to the wrong source of soul satisfaction."
        The Source of Addiction
If we are honest with ourselves, we all have addictions that are desires and cravings that only God can fulfill. Some addictions are much more socially acceptable, like overworking or over-exercising when you need to be investing time with your family and friends. These addictions may destroy those we love most if not kept in check.
Other addictions, such as overeating, alcohol, drugs, or sex, will ruin you as a person and those who love you most. We all must recognize addictions and compulsive behaviors for what they truly are, a heart yearning to be fulfilled by God. If our faith and trust were entirely in God, we would be completely satisfied at all times and would not need to bury ourselves in addictions.
God knows our weaknesses and is available to complete us, if we allow him to do so. He provided Jesus Christ for salvation, and once we understand that, we can gradually increase our faith until our addictions fall away and our fullness is in Christ. What do you need assistance with today to overcome?
        Ephesians 3:14-19
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1902 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and it is, “Add energy, inspire hope, and blow the coals into a useful flame.”
        A Useful Flame
I grew up on a farm where we had to heat much of our home with a coal-burning fireplace and a potbelly stove. Every cold day it was vital that we continue to add coal (that is, energy) to keep our home warm.
The warmth inspired hope in us that the effort expended to maintain the fire was worth it. By adding coal at the correct time, we would have a useful flame. If we did not add coal in time and the fire went out, as long as there were some warm embers, we could blow the fire back into a useful flame, but it required additional effort.
So it is with life, we must continually add energy and hope to our plans and efforts to keep them alive, and if we are slow doing so, we must blow the coals of desire to continue on the path moving forward. Allow God to spur you on in your efforts each day as you serve Him and build His kingdom.
        2 Timothy 1:5-7
I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
