Don't Play the Victim – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1881 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16  says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Nora Ephron, and it is, "Be the hero (or heroine) of your life, not the victim."
    Don’t Play The Victim
There are heroes all around us. From soldiers who protect our borders to fathers and mothers who never give up on their children, every person who makes a difference in the lives of others are heroes. Only a few of them get noticed, though.
It seems like so often that you see people playing the victim card for their lot in life instead of taking responsibility for their choices and making the best of it. Regardless of whether you have been dealt a hand of bad cards, it would be best if you learned to play the hand you were dealt and make a difference in your life and everyone you impact.
The real heroes are rarely noticed, not desire to be noticed. They would prefer to make the best of every situation, and if that includes a bit of heroism, they will do it without fanfare or fame. While Jesus was on earth, he taught us how to be leaders and heroes. It was by being a servant of all. That is the mark of a true hero.
    Matthew 20:25-27
But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different.  Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave.

    Overcoming Self – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1880 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from St. Francis of Assisi, and it is, “Above all, the grace and gifts that Christ gives to his beloved is that of overcoming self.”
    Overcoming Self
I am sure all of us know someone full of themselves; maybe it is the person staring back at you in the mirror. We are created as imagers of God, and as a child of the king, there is no reason for us to think of ourselves as trash. We are God’s masterpiece and have been fearfully and wonderfully made, but that is not something we have done but what God has done for us.
We also must realize that we have been crucified with Christ, and the life we now live, we live by faith in the one who loved us and gave himself for us. So we should not be full of ourselves but full of God’s Spirit that dwells within us.
If we are indeed full of the spirit, then our lives will reflect the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23, "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control.  There is no law against these things!"

    Philippians 2:3
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others.  Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Ability, Motivation, and Attitude – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1879 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Lou Holtz, and it is, “Ability is important. Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.”
    Ability, Motivation, and Attitude
While all three are components are essential, ability and motivation will not bring success unless you also have the proper attitude to achieve. Attitude is the fuel that runs the engine of success.
If we use a car as an analogy, the ability would be the car body, while motivation is the engine, but neither the body nor the engine will move without the fuel. Once the fuel is pumped into the car, which is the attitude, there are few limits to the places it can go.
God provides us with the ability, and doing His will for our lives is the motivation. But His indwelling Holy Spirit provides the strength to fulfill God’s will. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill you entirely as you build God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
    Ephesians 5:15-19
So be careful how you live.  Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life.  Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is, "Ability is important.  Dependability is critical."
    Ability vs. Dependability
Having the ability to accomplish activities in life is important, and God has granted each of us abilities in specific areas that He chooses. However, even if we have all the ability in the world, if we do not have dependability, then little will be accomplished in our lives.
Therefore, we need to be dependable in all aspects of life, from being on time, starting well, and continuing with perseverance until the task is completed.  Someone with few abilities but great dependability will accomplish much more than someone who has an abundance of abilities but does not have dependability. You can and should have both and utilize them for God’s glory.
    Matthew 25:20-21
The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ “The master was full of praise.  ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities.  Let’s celebrate together!’

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1877 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Wisdom_Trek, and it is, “Ability and training will help you reach the top, but it will be your character that will allow you to remain there.”
    Character Counts
God has blessed each of us with specific talents and abilities that are different from everyone else. It is up to us to use those talents and skills for His honor and glory. Part of this is through training and honing our skills. But becoming good at what God has blessed you will only be temporary if your character traits are not aligned with God’s precepts found in His Word.
Your character will allow you to continue to excel throughout your life. Your talents and skills may take on a different focus depending on the season of life you are currently in, but your character will remain the same. Your character is who you are, regardless of your talents and abilities.
So, you may be thinking, what are the character traits I should include in my life? Someone of excellent character possesses qualities like loyalty, honesty, courage, integrity, fortitude, and other essential virtues that promote good behavior. A person with good character chooses to do the right thing because they believe it is morally right. All of these qualities make up your integrity in life. It is who you are. Let us utilize the talents and skills God has blessed us with to build His kingdom on earth.
    1 Corinthians 12:1-6
Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us.  I don’t want you to misunderstand this. You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols.  So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.  There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.  There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.  God works in different ways, but it is the same God who...

    Start Today – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1876 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Karen Lamb, and it is, "A year from now, you may wish you had started today."
    Start Today
So many people have dreams, ambitions, plans, and goals, but they never wake up from their dream to achieve their desires. There are always excuses or hindrances where they are hesitant to begin.
Usually, the real reason for not beginning is fear that they may fail.  This procrastination may even be an unconscious fear that they just make up excuses instead of taking that first step towards their goal. Without realizing it, a person who does this will automatically fail because they never take action on their dreams and ambitions. While everyone will look back and see how wiser decisions could have been made, those who are successful can briefly look back with the realization that they may need to adjust course slightly, but they continue to move forward.
Don’t risk looking back a year from now and regretting that you never started. Start today and even if you fail or have to make significant course corrections, you will see how far you have come and the beautiful lessons you have learned.
    Luke 9:57-62
As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.”  But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”  So he said to another person, “Come, follow me.” The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.”  But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.”  Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.”  But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget
Today’s quote is from Wisdom_Trek, and it is, “A word to the wise is sufficient. A word to the unwise is resented.”
    A Word to the Wise

The exciting fact about wise people is that they are always seeking to gain additional wisdom. They fully understand that they are not all-knowing, nor do they have all the wisdom needed. While there may be a diminishing return on gaining knowledge for knowledge’s sake, there is certainly no limitation nor diminishing return on the depth of wisdom a person can achieve.
The wiser one becomes, the more humble and mature one becomes. Whereas additional knowledge tends to puff up, additional wisdom makes you more humble. Wisdom is the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment. A word to the wise will make that person wiser; whether that word is rebuke or edification, the wise will add to their wisdom.
On the other hand, a word to the unwise will be resented and will usually end up with that person arguing, being defensive, or sulking. Many times all three. The unwise lack confidence in themselves and God, so they try to cover their lack of confidence. So if you find yourself resistant when someone corrects you or provides a word of exhortation, you may lack the wisdom, discernment, and understanding needed for continued spiritual growth. Grown in wisdom each day, we are all lacking in some area of life.
    Proverbs 9:8-10
    So don’t bother correcting mockers;
    they will only hate you.
    But correct the wise,
    and they will love you.
    Instruct the wise,
and they will be even wiser.

and they will learn even more.

Earthly Goals for Heavenly Gains – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1874 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Wisdom_Trek, and it is, "A wise person sets his earthly goals on heavenly gains."
    Earthly Goals for Heavenly Gains
Do you desire to be extremely wise throughout your life? You can tell a person’s depth of wisdom based on their goal for themselves and their life. For example, wisdom may lack if a person’s goals are primarily focused on obtaining things. On the other hand, if a person’s goals are on establishing and maintaining strong relationships and making an eternal impact on the lives of others, then the depth of wisdom is substantial. Furthermore, since our occupation in life is to be building God’s kingdom, then a wise person will have his focus on heavenly gains.
A person is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. All that we possess and our talents and abilities are given to us by God, and we are stewards of them. Don’t miss the point, though, that we are to be wise stewards of all the blessings provided.  So set your goal high, and with wisdom, those goals will point heavenward.
    Colossians 3:1-4
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

Make More Opportunities – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1873 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Frances Bacon, and it is, “A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.”
    Make More Opportunities
Being wise has so many advantages that it is quite surprising that most people don’t pursue wisdom with a passion. Indeed, the book of Proverbs is packed full of references for gaining wisdom, insight, and understanding. One of those benefits or advantages is that the wise will have the wisdom to recognize and take advantage of opportunities even when they don’t appear to be opportunities at first.
Unfortunately, most people are not wise enough to recognize opportunities because they usually dress in overalls and look like work. Yet, the opportunities that we create or recognize because of our wisdom will change our lives’ treks. Opportunities multiply opportunities, so the wiser we are, the more opportunities will blossom from our lives and pour over into the lives of others. That is what building the Kingdom of God is about, impacting the lives of others to bring them from the domain of Satan into the Kingdom of God.
When we have more opportunities in life, it provides the resources to impact lives to a greater extent. God has granted us the ability to gain wisdom. We need to follow the precepts in His Word to gain that wisdom. It is so easy to gain wisdom; all we need is to ask as we are told in James 1:5, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.  He will not rebuke you for asking."
Here is just one passage that lists the value of wisdom.
    Proverbs 4:4-9
    My father taught me,
    “Take my words to heart.
Follow my commands, and you will live.
    Get wisdom; develop good judgment.
Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you.
Love her, and she will guard you.
Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
    If you prize wisdom, she...

Seek Wise Counsel – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1872 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from a Larry Burkett, and it is, "A wise person seeks much counsel...a fool listens to all of it."
    Seek Wise Counsel
You would think that wise people would not need to seek additional counsel since they already have a level of wisdom that is more than most people. The opposite is true. A wise person continues to gain wisdom throughout their life because they are wise enough to know that they are not wise enough.
There is another crucial distinction between some who is wise and someone who is foolish. The wise person can discern which counsel adds to their wisdom and which counsel is not wisdom. Those who remain foolish do not have the discernment to distinguish between good and bad counsel, so they accept it all, which adds to their foolishness.
The attributes of a wise person are that they know which counsel to keep and which to discard.  God expects us to be wise.  If counsel does not line up with the precepts found in God’s Word, it needs to be discarded.
    Proverbs 9:8-12
    So don’t bother correcting mockers;
    they will only hate you.
    But correct the wise,
    and they will love you.
    Instruct the wise,

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
    Wisdom will multiply your days
and add years to your life.
If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.
