Make Wise Decisions – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1871 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy.  Proverbs 16:16  says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is, "A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows public opinion."
    Make Wise Decisions
I don’t believe it has been ever more evident than today with 24/7 always-on news and the endless stream of social media posts that the masses are being led down a path of misinformation and fake news.  This misinformation is prevalent with all types of media outlets, from ultra-liberal to ultra-conservative. Logically thinking for ourselves and making wise decisions seems to be a fading character trait of most people. The conclusion appears that we are losing a large segment of people who are truly wise and capable of lining up their worldview with God’s Word.
We must keep God’s Word in our lives as a compass to navigate us through the tidal waves of fake news. If you think that fake news only comes from one side of the political spectrum, think again. The extensive media outlets are driven by revenue and profits, and they warp their information to fit the audience that will drive the most revenue.
Don’t be misled, but instead, invest time daily reading, absorbing, and studying God’s Word so that you will have a Biblical worldview.  With this Biblical worldview, you can make wise decisions and determine if what you hear or read aligns with the truth found in God’s Word.
    Galatians 6:4-10
Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.
Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God.  You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature.  But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get

The Wise Are Not Lonely – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1870 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Jonathan Swift, and it is, “A wise man is never less alone than when he is alone.”
    The Wise Are Not Lonely
Those truly wise are not dependent on being with other people to be at peace and find contentment. They understand that they are never alone because God is with them, regardless of their current situation. Yes, we all like the company and fellowship of others, but we should not depend on it for contentment.
We are created to be relational, just as God chose to create and fellowship with us.  Still, peace of mind and heart are only found in our relationship with God because all earthly relationships will fail to provide what we need at some point or another. Therefore, the wise continually accumulate Godly wisdom throughout their lives, and the wiser they become, the more comfortable they are with being alone with their wisdom.
So if you find yourself lonely much of the time, it would be best to invest your life to gain wisdom. It will provide the peace and contentment that you desire.
    Proverbs 4:5-9
    Get wisdom; develop good judgment.
Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.
Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you.
Love her, and she will guard you.
Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.
If you prize wisdom, she will make you great.
Embrace her, and she will honor you.
    She will place a lovely wreath on your head;
she will present you with a beautiful crown.

    God-Given Talents – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1869 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Larry Bird, and it is, “A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.”
    God-Given Talents
We all have the potential to be winners to the highest degree, as long as we understand that being a winner for one person may be entirely different for another. This is because we are created imagers of the one and only Holy God. He has created each of us with unique talents and abilities that only we can fulfill.
The key is to recognize your God-given talents and abilities and then dedicate yourself by working as hard as possible to put them into practice. I realize that those talents and abilities given to us may not be fully developed, and it is our responsibility to hone them into valuable skills for building God’s kingdom.
As a citizen of God’s kingdom, the ultimate goal is to perfect our God-given talents and abilities to further His work and bring honor and glory to His name. This will require hard work and perseverance, but we can accomplish it.  So, every day, be about the job you are called to do.
    Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece.  He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

The Exhausted Winner – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1868 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Joe Torre, and it is, "A winner is somebody who goes out there every day and exhausts himself trying to get something accomplished."
    The Exhausted Winner
It is not easy to win at anything in life unless you are willing to put in the effort to succeed. Effort or exertion results in weariness, possibly to the point of exhaustion. To accomplish anything worthwhile, you must consistently pursue your goals and ambitions. Consistency means going out day after day and powering through, even when you don’t feel like it and even when you don’t see much progress.
On most days, by the end of the day, I am either emotionally or physically exhausted, some days both. That is okay, though, because it gives me a sense of satisfaction that I not only accomplished much, but I have also impacted the lives of others. That impact may not be immediate or even significant, but mountains are moved one stone at a time.
I have a lifetime to accomplish God’s purpose for me. I make sure that I take care of myself spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically so that I am prepared for each new day. By preparing properly, I know that my exhaustion will serve a greater purpose while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Don’t wear yourself out by destroying yourself; be smart and balanced. If you retain these practices, being an exhausted winner will be worth the effort.
    Proverbs 23:4-5
Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich.
Be wise enough to know when to quit.
In the blink of an eye wealth disappears,
    for it will sprout wings
and fly away like an eagle.

Knowledge of a Winner – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1867 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from John Maxwell, and it is, “A winner is big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them.”
    Knowledge of a Winner
We all desire to be winners in every area of our lives. However, I don’t believe anyone desires to be a loser. Yet, there are those individuals who consistently win and those who consistently lose. Which group are you in?
To be a winner does not mean that you will never fail and make mistakes. It means that when you fail and make mistakes, you are willing to accept and admit them. Once you fail or make mistakes, you do not remain in that state of mind, loathing in self-pity. Instead, you are smart enough to learn from your failures and mistakes and change your approach the next time. You don’t give up. You have the strength necessary to take the lessons learned, correct those mistakes and failures, and then begin again with new knowledge and a drive that will pull you through the most difficult of times.
We know that with God, nothing is impossible, but as a student of God’s Word and the precepts that are contained within, we understand that any true success obtained must follow His principles. Otherwise, any human success we achieve will not be pleasing to God and will not ultimately advance the building of His kingdom. Be a successful kingdom builder; there is no other type of success.
    Matthew 7:24-29
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their...

The Tightrope of Life – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1866 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from William A. Ward, and it is, "A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life."
    The Tightrope of Life
Life is sometimes challenging, sort of like walking on a tightrope.  You have to be very careful with each step you take. This trek of life can be a difficult path to take, but just like being on a tightrope or climbing a mountain, the higher you go, the more beautiful the scenery becomes.
In both examples, you need to make sure you are appropriately outfitted and be very careful to have the proper balance. That is where a well-developed sense of humor comes into play. Whether it is a balancing beam on a tightrope or a good walking stick for a challenging hike in life, a good sense of humor will steady you through those difficult life situations we all encounter.
A well-developed sense of humor needs to be cultivated in your life.. First, don’t take life too seriously. Unless a situation causes harm to life or limb, then you can laugh at it and get through it. Also, invest time reading funny stories and jokes, listening to comedians, and watching funny programs. This will help you get through the challenging times with more ease and comfort.
As God’s children, we are to live fully and enjoy what He has blessed us with. Therefore, we all need to lighten up and live.
    2 Corinthians 8:2
They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor.  But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
    John 10:10
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.  My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

A Warm Smile – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1865 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from William Arthur Ward, and it is, “A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.”
    A Warm Smile
This quote is so accurate. I am sure everyone has seen smiling faces of adults and children from every culture throughout the world. No matter the actual spoken language, smiling and laughing are universal languages.
The reason for this is twofold. First, we are all of one race, the human race. There are not multiple races in our world. That is a lie fostered by Satan to cause strife between people. Yes, there are different nationalities and cultures, but only one universal race of people. The second reason that smiling and laughing are universal languages is that God creates everyone to image Him. As imagers of the one and only God, we have many more similarities among humanity than we will ever have in differences.
Our purpose is equally similar: to love and glorify God and love each other as we love ourselves. So no matter whom you are with, even if they have a different level of melatonin in their skin or have different political views, we are to love each other. So share a warm smile and a good laugh with everyone you are with, and before you know it, you will be speaking the same language, even if you can’t understand each other verbally.
    Colossians 4:5-6
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1864 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Margaret Atwood, and it is, “A voice is a human gift; it should be cherished and used, to utter fully human speech as possible.  Powerlessness and silence go together.”
    The Gift of Voice
God has blessed humankind with a full range of communication of which the crowning jewel is our voices. We can encourage and build up others or destroy others with our voices. We can spread kindness or spew hate. We can tell others of the Good News found in His Word with our voices.
I will never understand those who use their voice for cursing when language is so full and rich with excellent and wholesome words. The Bible is packed with warnings of speaking too much. Most of those references are about communicating with no purpose or meaning and babbling on without really saying anything helpful.
The opposite is also crucial. If we fail to speak up when we should, we become powerless. So instead, speak up for those who are suffering. Speak up when you see injustices. Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Speaking when you should be silent is foolishness. Remaining silent when you should speak up is cowardly. Use the power of your voice to bring glory to God and to build His kingdom.
    Proverbs 31:8-9
    Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves;
ensure justice for those being crushed.
Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
and see that they get justice.

A Powerful Vision – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1863 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16  says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Rosabeth Moss Kanter, and it is, "A powerful vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more."
    A Powerful Vision
To accomplish much at all in life, we need a vision. That vision must be powerful enough to allow a plan to be designed to move forward towards that vision. The plan must be detailed and compelling enough to foster execution because vision without execution is just a hallucination. The result must become an appeal that will enable you to better yourself and become more than you were previously.
In my role caring for aging parents, I have seen first-hand the unfortunate side effects of advancing dementia and Parkinson’s disease, which causes very realistic hallucinations. They can cause significant fear where the person is in fear of their lives, and at other times, the hallucinations are people familiar to them but have long since died.
The visions that come from age-related issues are not real but are not all that much different than those who have a vision for the future but are unwilling to invest the resources necessary for those visions to become a reality. Both of them are outside the scope of reality.
If you want to see your dreams and visions come true, they must be powerful enough to force you to plan and then execute that plan to the end. The vision must also go beyond the status quo to the improvement of yourself and those you impact. You must reach new heights to be all that God intended you to be. God will guide you, but you must step out with your vision.
    Proverbs 29:18
When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.  But whoever obeys the law is joyful.

A Vigorous Walk – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1862 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Paul Dudley White, and it is, “A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.”
    A Vigorous Walk
When you are unhappy or a bit depressed, I know that you may not feel like getting out and walking vigorously, but it is so much better for you than additional medicine or talking through your feelings with a therapist. It is also much less expensive.
I am not saying that medication and therapist are not required at times, but have you tried vigorously walking daily as an alternative? If not, it is certainly worth trying. According to the Mayo Clinic, physical activity doesn’t need to be complicated. Something as simple as a brisk daily walk can help you live a healthier life.
For example, regular brisk walking can help you:
    • Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat
    • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes
    • Improve cardiovascular fitness
    • Strengthen your bones and muscles
    • Improve muscle endurance
    • Increase energy levels
    • Improve your mood, cognition, memory, and sleep
    • Improve your balance and coordination
    • Strengthen immune system
    • Reduce stress and tension

    • The faster, farther, and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits. For example, you may start out as an average walker, and then work your way up to walking faster and walking a mile in a shorter amount of time than an average walker, similar to power walkers. This can be a great way to get aerobic activity, improve your heart health and increase your endurance while burning calories.
You can also alternate periods of brisk walking with leisurely walking. This type of interval training has many benefits, such as improving cardiovascular fitness and burning more calories than regular walking. And interval training can be done in less time than regular walking.
I cannot speak or decide for others, nor would I presume to do so, but I can speak for myself. At 65, I walk or jog at least five days a week. I am at or near my ideal weight and am in overall excellent health. I am told that I look considerably younger than my age and have strong bones and muscles. This would...
