Enjoy the Scenery – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1860 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is, "A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour."
    Enjoy the Scenery
Prior to thinking that GPS units were a required device in every vehicle, were you ever on a trip where you were completely lost and ended up on some back road? Even with the sophistication of GPS on our phones today, which tracks our speed and location and even warns us of road construction and accidents, we have been detoured on back roads several times to avoid getting stuck in traffic.
What is your reaction when either of these scenarios occurs? The best response is to take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery. Some of my most enjoyable trips have been off the freeways and experiencing the beautiful back roads.
There is so much to experience in life when we end up on detours.  We must learn in every situation that God is in control and has allowed the detours to happen for a purpose. Enjoy the scenery, count your blessings, and give God the glory for those detours in life.
    1 Corinthians 13:11-13
When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child.  But when I grew up, I put away childish things.  Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.  Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

A Truly Good Book – Daily Wisdom
Today’s quote is from Florence Allshorn, and it is, “A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.”
    A Truly Good Book
Have you ever been reading an enthralling book that is so difficult that hours will go by without you realizing it? It is as if you were one of the characters in that book, living in that place and time. I enjoy such books, whether fiction or non-fiction. Movies can be the same way, and I tend to be more fascinated with movies or books based on actual events.
In recent years, I have switched over almost entirely to audiobooks to listen to them while working outside or doing a myriad of other tasks. I especially enjoy the Sci-Fi genre based in space. I imagine myself being ported off to galaxies unknown and far away. Books and movies allow us to be transported into other people’s lives and worlds.
Books that stir us to be better, live better, encourage, care for, and love others more profoundly go beyond just reading. They move us to act on what we have read. Being moved to change does not result in change unless we choose to change.
There is one book, often referred to as “The Good Book,” which is a collection of books, letters, and poems; the Bible should radically change us to the point where we are no longer satisfied with just reading it, but are moved to live according to its precepts. It should motivate us to live so that others will see our lives and know that we have been changed from the inside out.
    Philippians 4:4-9
Always be full of joy in the Lord.  I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do.  Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ...

Produce More Leaders – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1858 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is, “A true leader produces more leaders.”
    Produce More Leaders
The universal law of multiplication is valid for crops and people. Just as a good kernel of corn will produce many more seeds, the same applies to people. As a result, each of us is leaving a legacy of impact on the lives of others. That legacy may be good or bad, depending on the seeds we are planting into those we nurture. A good and godly leader will produce more leaders who will be good and godly.
Regardless of what we do to earn a living, we should never underestimate the significant impact we can have on those who cross our paths each day. Going back to the analogy of the kernel of corn, when you plant that kernel, it will always produce corn, never anything else. The same is true of our lives; what we are will be replicated in our children, grandchildren, and others we encounter. The only way to live on after we die is through those people we impact.
    John 12:23-26
Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone.  But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it.  Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am.  And the Father will honor anyone who serves me."

Character Traits of a True Leader – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1858 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from an Anonymous Source, and it is, "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent."
Character Traits of a True Leader
Being in a leadership position is not always easy. The fact is, it is pretty challenging at times. I have joked in the past that leadership would be easy if you didn’t have to deal with people. However, that is what leadership is all about, as we all know.
You must have unwavering confidence to lead well, even when no one agrees with you. In addition, you must have unshakeable courage in the face of the most challenging decisions. But you also must have deep compassion to facilitate the needs of others.
A Biblically sound leader does not set out to be a great leader, but becomes one through the integrity of their intent and unquestionable quality of their actions. As we see the example in Scripture from the only perfect imager of God, we become leaders when we are willing to serve others. It is then that others will follow as we lead by facilitating Biblical precepts found in God’s Word.
    Mark 10:42-45
So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you, it will be different.  Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.

A True Friend Knows – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1857 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from William Arthur Ward, and it is, "A true friend knows your weaknesses, but shows you your strengths, feels your fears but fortifies your faith, sees your anxieties but frees your spirit, recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities."
    A True Friend Knows
Most of us will only have one or two true friends during our lifetime.  Few of us have the capacity to invest that deeply into the lives of others.  For me, that would be Granny, who I love more deeply than anyone else.  She knows my weaknesses, fears, anxieties, and disabilities better than I know myself.
The opposite of that is also true. These limiting character traits do not become a point of contention between us, but rather an opportunity to deeply invest in each other’s lives to strengthen and build up one another.
We are to point out our friend’s strengths, not emphasize their weaknesses.  We are to fortify their faith, not highlight their fears.  We are to give them the freedom to grow, not hinder them by collaborating with their anxieties. We are to show them their possibilities for the future, not give them reasons to see their disabilities.
As Christ-followers, we are to build up and strengthen our fellow believers at every opportunity we are given, so our friends can maximize their God-given talents and abilities.

    Romans 12:9-12
Don’t just pretend to love others.  Really love them.  Hate what is wrong.  Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.  Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.  Rejoice in our confident hope.  Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Accept, Support, and Encourage – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1856 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from an Unknown Source, and it is, "A true friend is someone who accepts your past, supports your present, and encourages your future."
    Accept, Support, And Encourage
Too often, we are prone to judge, abandon, and discourage others, even if we consider them to be our friends. As Christ-followers, this should never be. Although we may have to live with the consequences of past actions, good and bad, we can never go back and change what has already been done. Therefore, there is no need to judge others, especially friends, for what they did in the past.
God forgives our past and remembers them no more, and we should be willing to do the same. We then need to love and support our friends in the present. If you genuinely love them and see them making unwise decisions, you need to love them enough to carefully advise them and pray with them.
Finally, we should always be encouraging to others, especially our friends. Encourage and help them achieve their dreams for their future. Be supportive, loving, kind, and above all, help them walk humbly with our God.
    Philippians 2:1-4
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ?  Any comfort from his love?  Any fellowship together in the Spirit?  Are your hearts tender and compassionate?  Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others.  Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Be What God Designed You to Be – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1855 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Thomas Merton, and it is, “A tree gives glory to God by being a tree. For in being what God means it to be, it is obeying Him...The more a tree is like itself, the more it is like Him.”
Be What God Designed You to Be
God does expect us to utilize the talents and abilities that He has given to us to our full potential. However, God does not expect us to fulfill what others may have for us…God does not expect a bush to become a tree. God does not expect a bird to become a rabbit. If we judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it would be incapable of doing so and would die trying. But if we judge a fish by its swimming ability, we would see that it does pretty well.
The same applies to each individual in humankind. We all have a unique set of God-given talents and abilities. As imagers of God, he does expect us to fully manifest what He has given us personally, but not what He may have provided to another imager. Therefore, comparing ourselves to others can be deceiving or even devastating.
On the other hand, comparing ourselves to who we were yesterday can be exhilarating. Let us measure ourselves according to God’s standard found in His Word. Let us be on the path of continual improvement as we become more like Jesus Christ, the only perfect imager.
    Romans 8:28-30
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him.  And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself.  And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

Do It Right Today – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1854 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from an Unknown Source, and it is, “A thing done right today means less trouble tomorrow.”
    Do It Right Today
If we don’t have the time to do something right today, why do we think we will have the time tomorrow? That is just not logical. Yet, all too often, we race through a project, work, or other activity because we are so busy. Still, we end up not doing it correctly, which takes us even longer when we have to redo what was already done, albeit incorrectly.
The key is to slow down, analyze the situation and then work through the problem or project thoughtfully, focusing on the details. As my dad told us dozens of times growing up, we should be slow and methodical as we were racing through our activities. It reminds me of the professional photographer who rushed through his photoshoot and said he did not have time to focus his cameras; he had pictures to take. So take time to do it right the first time today, and you will save yourself a lot of trouble in all of your tomorrows.

    2 Peter 3:9
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think.  No, he is being patient for your sake.  He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Impact the Outcome – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1853 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is, "A team can be impacted at any stage by anyone who has a positive or negative influence on the outcome of the team’s goals."
    Impact the Outcome
Whether it is a sports team, a business team, a church team, or a family team, one person can positively or negatively influence each of those teams. Therefore, the entire team must be unified and work for the same goals and outcomes.
For example, growing up in an apple orchard, I know firsthand that a single apple that begins to rot can impact all of the apples surrounding it.  That is why it was essential to separate a rotting apple from the solid apples. Otherwise, the entire bag or basket of apples would be negatively impacted within time.
So it is with teams; if there is one negative person, it will negatively impact the entire team. The converse is also true. If a team has experienced failure or disappointment, one positive member can assist in revitalizing the whole team. So the moral of this story is, be a good apple; you never know how your life will positively impact the entire team.

    3 John 1:11
Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you.  Follow only what is good.  Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1852 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from an Unknown Source, and it is, "A successful person is a dreamer whom someone believed in."
    Success and Belief
Success in any area of life starts with belief...belief in yourself and others believing in your ability to become successful. Of course, other crucial factors like hard work, diligence, and the ability to overcome failure are part of the success spectrum. This belief, or some would call it faith in God, is a very critical factor on that difficult path to success.
Some success appears to be a miracle in the face of impossible odds.  Like the miracles recorded in God’s Word, there was a measure of belief and faith required for the miracles to be manifested in most cases. The first and most important step towards the success desired is belief in yourself.
Believe that God made you to glorify Him, and although success from God’s perspective may not be the same as we perceive it, if we seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, then all that we need to do His will is provided to us. Seek first to be kingdom builders, building on a firm foundation.
    Matthew 6:33
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
