Welcome to Day 1851 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

A Successful Marriage – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1851 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Mignon McLaughlin, and it is, "A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."
    A Successful Marriage
While I agree with this quote completely, I would like to expand on it a bit...A successful marriage is where both partners choose every day to love the person they are married to. It is not optional; if you are committed to a lifelong and satisfying relationship, you must choose to love your spouse unconditionally. Love is always a choice, and it is a choice that must be made on a continuous basis.
From the beginning, God created us as His imagers to be in a relationship that lasts for our natural lives. Anything or anyone that subverts God’s plan for marriage is a violation of his precepts. The New Testament equates marriage as a picture of Christ and His church. This is a sacred covenant. So choose each day to love your spouse; it is not an option.
    Ephesians 5:25-26
For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.  He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.

A Firm Foundation – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1850 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from David Brinkley, and it is, “A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.”
    A Firm Foundation
To be successful in any life endeavor, you must be willing to handle trials and hardships and turn them into advantages. But, unfortunately, many people will give up when criticized by others or when they run into headwinds of any kind. This type of defeatism will stifle forward progress, and that progress will cease altogether before too long. We cannot allow this to happen in our lives. We are created to glorify God, and we cannot do that if we are prone to give up when trials come into our path of success.
So when others throw bricks at you and try to thwart your progress, pick the bricks up, but instead of throwing them back, use them to build a strong foundation for success. In Jesus’s parable of servants who wisely invested what they had been entrusted with, he commends those who were faithful with little or much. He did not commend the one who did nothing. So it is with us, God has blessed us with talents and abilities that we should use for Him. Little is much when God is in it.
    Matthew 25:21
The master was full of praise. "Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!"

A Stone or Gold – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1849 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is a Persian Proverb, and it is, “A stone given at the right time is better than gold given at the wrong time.”
    A Stone or Gold
I would say that most of us think that gold is much more valuable than a stone, but that is because most of us have ready access to a way to cash in on that gold. However, there are scenarios when that would not be accurate.
For example, we are out in the wilderness and have to survive. A hard stone would have many uses in that situation, but a nugget of gold, which is far softer, would not be near as valuable. This stone could be used to crush nuts or grain, or it could be used to drive stakes into the ground. Gold would not have the same capabilities.
Here is another example. Let’s say you were starving, and someone came along with food in one bucket and gold in another. The catch here is there is no way to redeem the gold before you would starve to death. In that case, the food would be exponentially more valuable than any amount of gold. So it is with God’s imagers.
There may be one person who is a genius or a successful business person, but if you need a plumber to unclog an over-flowing toilet, then who brings the most value to that situation? Indeed, the trained plumber would be invaluable. As I recite at the beginning of every podcast, many things are more valuable in life than silver or gold, like wisdom and sound judgment. Keep this in mind the next time you think all would be well if you just had more riches.
    Job 28:17-19
Wisdom is more valuable than gold and crystal.
It cannot be purchased with jewels mounted in fine gold.
Coral and jasper are worthless in trying to get it.
The price of wisdom is far above rubies.
Precious peridot from Ethiopia cannot be exchanged for it.
It’s worth more than the purest gold.

A Spiritual Secret – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1848 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Amy Carmichael, and it is, "A spiritual secret is to learn contentment with the things God doesn’t explain to us."
    A Spiritual Secret
There are many things in this life that we will never understand fully, but we cannot allow that to cause us discontentment. As an imager of God, we must have strong faith to be content even when we may not understand the reason for specific events or issues. We don’t and can’t understand everything God allows to pour through our lives, what we may consider good or bad. The key to a contented life is to be willing to accept God’s gifts to us even when we do not recognize them as gifts but trials.
One of the most obvious marks of a spiritually mature person is the ability to remain at peace and content, even when the world around seems to be in chaos. A spiritually mature person recognizes that everything works for our good according to God’s will for us. The secret to being a mature imager of God is no secret at all. You must learn to be content, even when you don’t understand God’s plans for you.

    Isaiah 55:8-9
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1847 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from an English Proverb, and it is, “A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.”
    A Skillful Mariner
We would all like our seas of life to be smooth and not buffeted by wind or waves, but that is not how life is. If it were, we would never be able to reach maturity or our full potential in life. Yes, there will be days where life is smooth sailing, but more often than not, many days will be filled with raging waves, torrential rains, and powerful headwinds. When we face these conditions as we sail through life, we will become skillful and be able to assist others facing storms in their lives.
The more we experience the storms of life ourselves, and we successfully navigate through those storms, the more skillful we will become. The more proficient we become, the greater our capacity to assist others will be. So it is with life. We gain the ability to use the winds, rain, and waves to our advantage to drive us forward with greater skill and expertise. Therefore, we should not curse the storms but adjust our sails to take advantage of those storms.
    2 Thessalonians 1:3-6
Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing. We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering. And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1846 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Alfred A. Montapert, and it is, "A smile of encouragement at the right moment may act like sunlight on a closed-up flower; it may be the turning point for a struggling life."
    A Smile of Encouragement
A genuine smile at the right moment has such extreme power that it can heal a broken heart or repair a fractured relationship. We should never underestimate what an encouraging word, hug, and smile can do for someone struggling in life.
You must have a heartfelt passion for the one who you are assisting. Just a little kindness and a smile of encouragement may be the sunshine needed for the closed-up person to open up in full radiance of a spring or summer flower.
We never really know what another person may be going through, so if you make it a habit to smile, be kind, and look for ways to assist others, you will have untold opportunities to further God’s kingdom through your actions.  The benefits of a genuine smile will also help in your life.
    Job 29:24

Handwriting On The Wall – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1845 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Morris Bender, and it is, “A skeptic is a person who, when he sees the handwriting on the wall, claims it is a forgery.”
    Handwriting on the Wall
No matter how irrefutable the truth is, some people will not believe it. I realize that we are exposed to a plethora of information today through the internet, 24/7 news shows, and millions of self-proclaimed prophets, all vying for our attention, so it becomes difficult to know what is true and what is not. However, even with this, we have a standard for which we can base truth as we construct our worldview daily. That standard is God’s Word and the precepts and principles taught within.
We must understand that God’s Word is not a science book, although it contains information that can help us analyze scientific theories. Likewise, God’s Word is not a precise history book, although it does correspond with much of history throughout the ages. As I have mentioned before, God’s Word was written for us, but not directly to us. If we interpret passages based on a 21st-century worldview, we will end up down rabbit holes that lead to false conclusions. We must get inside the original authors’ minds and culture and understand their worldview to divide the word of truth rightly.
With much of what we hear, read, or watch on various media platforms, we need to filter this information through the evident facts of God’s Word. If today’s information and stories don’t make sense through common sense, then it is probably nonsense. Stick with the clear handwriting found on the wall of God’s Word, and don’t be a skeptic. We would all do well to saturate our minds with the wisdom found in Proverbs.
    Proverbs 1:1-7
These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.
Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline,
to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives,
to help them do what is right, just, and fair....

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1844 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, and it is, “A single grateful thought raised to heaven is the most perfect prayer.”
    The Perfect Prayer
God certainly wants to hear all of our prayers and petitions that we offer up to His holy throne, so we should never hesitate to come boldly into His presence with all of our requests and needs. One type of prayer we often overlook is the prayer of grateful praise for His untold and eternal blessings and grace in our lives. You could say that the outpouring of our hearts in recognition of God is the most perfect type of prayer.
Even when we suffer hardships and trials, there is much to praise God for during difficult times. God will certainly give us the strength that we need to endure anything that comes into our path of life. During those tribulations, we can be purified and drawn closer to Him as His imager showing forth God through our lives.
As you approach God in prayer, first bring your praise and adoration before reviewing a list of demands and petitions. You may also consider just praises to His name during some prayer times. He already knows all of our needs before we ask. Listen to this song of praise from King David.
    Psalm 63:1-8
    O God, you are my God;
    I earnestly search for you.
    My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
in this parched and weary land
    where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary
and gazed upon your power and glory.
    Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
    how I praise you!
I will praise you as long as I live,
lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
I will praise you with songs of joy.
I lie awake thinking of you,
meditating on you through the night.
    Because you are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
    I cling to you;

    Be Prudent – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1843 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Proverbs 14:15, and it is, "A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps."
    Be Prudent
I realize that misinformation has been around since the beginning of humankind when the serpent tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. The angelic creature assured Eve that God kept something precious from her and Adam. Unfortunately, they both believed and were deceived.
So it is in our day, the news media and social media are full of all kinds of slanted or misleading information to draw us in, so we will consume their propaganda, just as Adam and Eve did.  If we are not prudent and too simple in our thinking, it is easy to be sucked into the subtle lies and partial truths.
We must know God’s Word so well that we can discern when information contradicts God’s precepts. Then, we need to think about our decisions and our steps. Be careful not to be deceived by information that aligns closely with your worldview just because you like what is said. Understand that news media and social media are both driven by getting people to listen, watch, and read to increase revenue.
It doesn’t matter whether the information is on the right or the left, liberal or conservative; if it contradicts God’s Word, sound wisdom, and good old common sense, you are being fed information that is at least partially untrue. Think prudently, don’t be simple.
    3 John 1:11
Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good.  Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

A Safe Ship – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1842 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from William G.T. Shedd, and it is, “A ship is always safest in the harbor. But that’s not what ships are built for.”
    A Safe Ship
A ship that never leaves the harbor will never fulfill what it was destined for. Even in harbor, it could still be ripped to pieces by a hurricane. Yes, the ship may be safest in harbor, but what good does it do if it is not used for its intended purpose. The same is true of our lives.
At times we feel like climbing into our bubble to be safe from the storms of life, but that is not why we are created. We are created as imagers of our all-knowing, all-powerful, all-wise God, and He has a specific destiny for our lives.
Regardless of what you do for employment to meet the physical needs of your family, that is not as important as what our true occupation is. We are destined to be citizens of God’s kingdom and help build His kingdom on earth, as it is in heaven. What we do for employment enables us to facilitate our occupation. Everything that we do should be done for God’s glory as part of our mission of building His kingdom.
So let us not grow weary with life, or attempt to hide in a bubble, so we don’t have to face our responsibilities. Let us proceed bolding, knowing that what God has called us to do, he also equips us to do it. So face the raging waves of life when they come. God controls the waging waves just as He controls the peaceful ocean.
    Isaiah 40:28-31
    Have you never heard?
    Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
