A Real Decision – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1831 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16  says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Tony Robbins, and it is, "A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken a new action. If there’s no action, you haven’t truly decided."
    A Real Decision
A decision made must be connected to an action that is taken. Otherwise, you decide to do nothing, which is not a decision. Action is the key to making your choices tangible. You can sit around and think about taking action on a matter, but until you actually act, you might as well not waste your mental energy contemplating what you might do. My grandma Burkhart called that a mugwump. She explained it this way, you can spit in one hand and wish in the other, and you will end up with the same result; nothing is accomplished.
So unless you enjoy being a mugwump, I suggest that when you make decisions, you also follow through with taking action. As a Christ-follower, we are warned in Scripture that we should not be idle but always work as though we are working for God’s glory and not our satisfaction.
    2 Thessalonians 3:6-10
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us.  For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you. We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you. We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow. Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”
As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.

A Proper Perspective – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Janette Oke, and it is, “A quiet morning with a loving God puts the events of the upcoming day into proper perspective.”
    A Proper Perspective
How do you start your day? I realize that not everyone is a morning person, as I tend to be, so you may have to flip your schedule around. The key is to make sure you set aside time each day to invest with God through the reading of His Word and praying. Early morning works for me and certainly sets the tone for my entire day.
I get up at 5:00 am each weekday and listen to Scripture, devotionals, and uplifting podcasts while I exercise. I exercise for about 75 minutes, allowing for a significant amount of time to make sure that my mind is set correctly and that I build on a Biblical worldview. If I have the correct worldview, then I can filter the mass of information that I consume during the day based on God’s perspective instead of my inclinations.
So no matter what time you wake up each day, start it with God. We need a proper perspective of life, which will only happen when we filter it through God’s perspective.
    Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1829 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is, “A providence that provides for sparrows will certainly protect the saints.”
    Providence That Provides
We become overly concerned about how we are going to take care of ourselves. We panic and fret about providing for our families, paying our bills, or saving for unexpected expenses. However, if our faith is in a holy God who created all things and loves us beyond what we could ever think or imagine, we should rest in the fact that indeed He will also take care of both our small and large needs and even some of our wants, if our heart is focused on Him.
Most of what we are fearful of will never come to pass. Even if we go through hardships and tribulations at times, God will give us the strength to carry on, no matter what. So let us do the best that we can with the talents and abilities given to us by God, and then allow God to provide for us just as he provides for the sparrows.
    Matthew 6:25-27
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from James A. Belasco, and it is, "A productive coaching relationship begins with two people with fires in their bellies: one who wants desperately to move forward and another who yearns to help that person make the journey."
    Productive Coaching
    [caption id="attachment_30623" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Source: Trueffelpix / shutterstock[/caption]
Effective coaching requires a willing and qualified person to coach and another person who strongly desires to receive the instruction from the coach. Effective coaching will not happen if you are missing either of those elements. Intense desire must burn within the soul of both persons.
We all need coaching in life. It may be formal coaching, such as on a sports team or a business situation, or a relaxed position where a parent teaches their children appropriate behavior or practical skills. If you are the coach, you need to have a passion for assisting others in growing and flourishing. If you are being coached, you need a desire to learn, improve, and excel. When this combination matches up, there is no limit to what can be accomplished.
In Biblical terms, this same process is called discipleship. Jesus Christ was a master coach to those who followed Him. Those being disciples had a burning desire to be taught. We are also called to spread the Good News by making disciples through the great commission.
    Luke 24:32
    They said to each other,
“Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1827 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is an old Proverb, and it is, “A positive conviction without accurate information is a dangerous thing.”
    Accurate Information
We can have strong and positive convictions about a particular subject or person, but if it is inaccurate, it will lead to self-delusion and a cultic environment. Unfortunately, many people have been led astray by a dynamic personality who gathered a following based on their rhetoric that is full of positive conviction but did not contain the whole truth about a matter. This person may soon gather a cult, but they will lead the followers down the wrong path.
But, on the other hand, we can have a true positive conviction based on the truth when our talk and walk follow God’s Word. It is great to have a positive conviction, but only when our beliefs align with God’s precepts. Then, we need a call to spiritual growth.
    Hebrews 5:11-14
There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

We are on Day 1826 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, "A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, and it sparks extraordinary results."
    Extraordinary Results
Any achievement accomplished in life start with a positive attitude believing that change is possible. A positive attitude is like a series of connected pieces of dynamite. Once the first piece is lit and explodes, it transfers the energy to the subsequent source of explosion in line. This chain reaction starts with a positive attitude which links to positive thoughts, events, and outcomes.
Once this chain reaction begins, the very catalyst ignites extraordinary results. So plant the seeds of a positive attitude each day, and you will harvest a massive crop of results.
As a Christ-follower, there is never a reason to be negative in our attitudes. We have all that we need to live a godly life. We have the same power of God working through us by His Holy Spirit who dwells within. Live a life worthy of our calling.
    Romans 14:17-19
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

A Thousand Sermons – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1825 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is, “A pint of example is worth a thousand sermons.”
    A Thousand Sermons
I am sure you have heard that we need to walk our talk, and that is so true. I agree. Especially as Christ-followers, we need to ensure that our daily lives match what we talk about and that what we talk about is in line with God’s precepts. There is much harm that can be done to the cause of Christ if our example betrays our faith.
We are to be salt and light in a tasteless and dark world. If we are not, then God’s kingdom will not be built through us as it should be. So the next time you are about to open your mouth to say something, talk about someone, or spread information that is not true, then it would be best to pause and either say nothing or only say that which is encouraging uplifting to others. Don’t let your thousand sermons return empty.
    Ephesians 4:29-30
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.

Welcome to Day 1826 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

A Poor Worker – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1824 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom. Today, we have a very special guest and one of my namesakes, Harold Guthrie Chamberlain, V, my nearly 10-year-old grandson, and son of my eldest son Harold Guthrie Chamberlain, IV. We are proud to pass down our legacy, part of which is our name. We also call our grandson by his Kenyan name, Kiprono, or Kip for short. His mama is from Kenya, and we are also proud of the rich history that ties him to Kenya, where his other grandparents still live. We know that wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Kip is going to read today’s nugget of wisdom.
Today’s quote is from George Herbert, and it is, “A poor worker always finds fault with their tools.”
    A Poor Worker
The idea behind this expression is that a good worker would take full responsibility for any fault and not try to blame his equipment. Therefore, someone blaming shoddy work on their tools must not be very skilled. In other words, an unskilled person cannot do skilled work even with the very best tools. But, unfortunately, we live in a world where some people refuse to responsibility for the quality of their work.
Instead, they blame their tools, work situation, co-workers, or even their family instead of being willing to accept responsibility. A person who does this will never improve because they constantly blame someone or something else. We need to accept responsibility and then take the necessary steps to improve our shortcomings and areas of weaknesses. Never blame; always seek to improve. God’s Word shows us how to be an approved worker.
    2 Timothy 2:15
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the Word of truth.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1823 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Antoine de Saint-Exupery, and it is, "A pile of rocks ceases to be a rock when somebody contemplates it with the idea of a cathedral in mind."
    A Pile Of Rocks
It has been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that statement is so true. Of course, it applies to people, but it can apply to just about anything.
For example, before we had the opportunity to work with a construction company in Arizona, I thought that the desert had quite ugly landscapes, especially compared to southeastern Ohio’s lush green rolling hills. However, after living in Arizona part-time, I came to love the beauty of the desert. Indeed, it was different but beautiful in its way. If you look for it, you can see God’s hand and beauty in almost anything, person, or situation.
As with our quote today, if you take your eyes off a pile of different sizes of uncut rocks in your mind’s eye, you can begin to see the beautiful cathedral that that same pile of ugly rocks can construct. So instead of negatively looking at people, places, or things and judging them, look for the beauty within them. Look to the valleys, plains, hills, and the heavens, and see that indeed God’s beauty surrounds us everywhere we choose to see it.
    Ecclesiastes 3:11
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

Opportunities in Difficulties – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1822 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Harry Truman, and it is, “A pessimist makes difficulties of his opportunities, and an optimist makes opportunities of his difficulties.”
    Opportunities In Difficulties
Our outlook and mindset highly influence how we view and function in life. If we loath difficulties and grind to a halt every time we face them, we will never make much progress in life. Opportunities are always full of difficulties. The bigger the opportunity, the greater the difficulties will be. As always, we have a choice. We can be hindered when faced with opportunities or take advantage of them, regardless of their difficulties.
Interestingly, in both situations, the opportunities are the same; it is all in how we view them. So since we do have a choice, life becomes much more enjoyable and worth living if we consider all opportunities from an optimistic mindset. Since we are created to be imagers of God, we should see every opportunity that God brings our way as an opportunity to build His kingdom. Let’s do so to the best of our abilities for His honor and glory.
    Galatians 6:10
Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
