A Sharp Tongue – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1841 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy.  Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, "A sharp tongue can cut your own throat."
    A Sharp Tongue
We need to be careful how we talk about other people, places, or organizations. Although the tongue can bring healing and encouragement, it can also bring destruction and death to others. Ultimately what we plant with our tongues will be harvested in our lives. If we plant love, compassion, encouragement, and kindness, we will harvest those same in our lifetime.
On the other hand, if we plant gossip, slander, hatred, and discouraging words, we will harvest the same in our lives. Therefore, let us build up others, not tear them down. Let us show love to others, not hatred. Let us do all we can to build God’s kingdom here on earth by displaying that we are His imagers. Otherwise, the throat that we cut with our sharp and nasty tongue will be our own.
God’s Word is filled with exhortations on the proper and improper use of the tongue.  The best overall narrative is found in:
    James 3:1-12
Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. Indeed, we all make many mistakes.  For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire.  It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body.  It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue.  It is restless...

Humor Is Needed Armor – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1840 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!"  If
you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Hugh Sidey, and it is, “A sense of humor is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.”
    Humor Is Needed Armor
A good sense of humor is one of the essential elements of life to live healthy and emotionally balanced. In addition, humor acts as armor to protect us from all of the hostile forces that bombard us daily. As citizens of God’s kingdom, we need to oppose those negative forces with an abundant supply of joy, coupled with many doses of laughter throughout the day. Joy comes from the inner peace we have, knowing that God controls every situation no matter what happens in our lives.
So supplement your joy with humor, which can be reading or listening to funny stories, watching humorous programs, or laughing at yourself when you do or say something silly, as we all do. Laughter has many health benefits to your body, soul, and mind. Never take life too seriously; instead, live a rich and satisfying life as God would desire for us. After all, we are children of the King, and we should celebrate and enjoy every day of life. So look for humor throughout each day.
    Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
    Psalm 126:2-3
    We were filled with laughter,
    and we sang for joy.
    And the other nations said,
“What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!
    What joy!

God Created Science – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1839 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Simone Weil, and it is, “A science which does not bring us nearer to God is worthless.”
    God Created Science
Today, we hear so much from politicians, news media, social media, and many other experts about trusting science or believing the science. Still, these messages often seem to be shrouded in fear and not based on actual science. Like truth, the laws of the universe (such as gravity), real science ultimately comes from God and manifests through His imagers.
For instance, I believe in climate change and that it is caused at least in part by humans and animals. We also should do all that is reasonably possible to minimize that change. That being said, there is no scientifically sound reason for humanity to panic. Fear the world will be destroyed in a few years or even centuries is driven by someone making a profit on that fear and not on sound science.
The Bible tells of a different conclusion at the end of time as we know it. It will be when God restores a global Eden on earth and heaven and earth are combined in a domain where we will work, rule, reign, and bask in God’s glory all eternity. Most people, including believers, don’t understand that the Bible was not written as a science book, so we need to be careful to read it as such. Also, the Bible was written for us, but not to us. Therefore, we have to understand the scripture through the authors’ worldview, to people to whom it was written, and the time period in which it was written. Without this understanding, we will force God’s Word into our modern time and view it through a 21st-century worldview.
While you should rely upon and trust science, ensure that your sources are reliable and trustworthy. Make sure they are grounded in solid scientific methods and can be verified. Be aware of the wolves in sheep clothing, use common sense, and trust God, the author of truth.
    1 Timothy 6:20-21

Share the Good News – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1838 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Harry F. Banks, and it is, "A salesperson minus enthusiasm is just a clerk."
    Share the Good News
Have you ever walked into a retail location, and the person behind the counter either ignored you or acted like you are an interruption to their day? Every team member is an ambassador for that company where they work.  No matter what the position is, from a person at the front desk, someone who answers the phone, the sales reps, all the way to the owner of the business, or the president, everyone represents the company.  Each person should work with enthusiasm because each person is a salesperson in their way.
When you think about it, the same applies to the church. Everyone should be enthusiastic and friendly when a new person enters the church. They should be made to feel special because they are. An opportunity like this may be the difference of that person coming again to hear God’s Word and learn from it.
As Christ-followers, so should it be in our individual lives. We should treat everyone we meet with compassion and respect. Every person is an imager of God, and we do not know how our lives will impact them for God’s kingdom.  Even if another person treats us unkindly, we should still be kind and respectful to them. We never know what another person may be dealing with or have on their mind.
You may be the living Word of God in their lives so that they will see God’s love for them through you. Never be a clerk for the kingdom of God; share the excellent Good News with them through your words and actions. Be an ambassador for Jesus Christ.
    1 Corinthians 9:23
I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1837 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Cicero, and it is, "A room without books is like a body without a soul."
    A Room Without Books
As God’s created imagers, we should constantly learn and absorb as much information as possible. Initially, the primary way to learn something new is to read information through books. They can be printed books or digital books. Books can provide us with a universe of information to further our minds and expand our souls. These books can be either non-fiction or fiction, allowing us to explore new worlds in our minds. However, if we neglect the opportunities to read and learn, we will soon become like muscles that are not exercised; they will eventually die of atrophy.
In today’s age of modern technologies, we also have many other media to learn from, but the art of reading books helps to expand our minds in a manner that few other avenues will allow. It allows the mind to imagine, expand, think in new ways, and unlock the mysteries of the universe. Of course, on the top of the list of books you should absorb are the books found in God’s Word. They contain the riches of the universe. So invest in books, which is investing in your body, mind, and soul.
    Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Make A Beginning – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1836 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Soren Kierkegaard, and it is, "A road well begun is the battle half won. The important thing is to make a beginning and get underway."
    Make A Beginning
As we have talked about in past episodes, you will never make progress if you never begin a task. Starting a job is usually the most challenging part, and once you start and pick up momentum, the task becomes increasingly more accessible. That is why the most important aspect of anything that you are attempting to do is to get started.
While we need to plan before moving forward, you will begin to see diminishing returns from your continued planning at some point in the planning process. Therefore, you need to get underway on what you are working on and execute the plans you have created.
Finally, you have to come to a point where you say, no more getting ready, to get ready and begin. Please don’t put it off any longer; the important thing is to keep moving forward. As we are to do everything in this life to the honor and glory of God, not beginning is stifling your ability to do so. So, put your God-given talents and skills to the work of building His kingdom in every task you undertake.
    Proverbs 21:5
Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

Ability to Forget – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1835 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Croft M. Pentz, and it is, “A retentive memory is often a good thing, but the ability to forget can be a token of greatness.”
    Ability to Forget
I believe that all of us desire to have a good memory, but what we retain is of utmost importance. As I have studied people, I have realized that there are essentially three types of personalities that determine what is vital to remember and how they make decisions and choices. One type is focused on the past, and their outlook, decisions, and choices are driven by their past experiences. The next kind of person is focused on the present; their outlook, decisions, and choices are driven by what they are currently experiencing. Finally, the third type of person is focused on the future. This person makes decisions based on what they perceive of the future and is more forward-looking on their outlook, decisions, and choices.
All three of these types of persons’ outlooks control what and how they tend to remember. The past-oriented can remember more finite details of past events. The present-oriented can remember valuable information vital to their present situation but may not reflect on the past, nor project the future. A future-oriented person remembers very few finite details of the past, including the very recent past, unless it is essential to their success for the future.
I am personally rooted in this third category. I do not remember many details of the past whether it was 50 years ago or five days ago. I am always focusing on the future. I tend not to remember unless it is required information for future success like passwords, financial information, appointments, deadlines, or information needed to function well. I can easily remember that which is vital to the future.
On the other hand, Granny tends to be past-oriented, and she can remember finite details and trivia of the distant and not so distant past especially relationship-related, but can’t recall details of financial information she may have worked on from last week. All three types have strengths and weaknesses, and God made us how we are for His honor and glory. That being said, we need to forget that which is negative and destructive but cling to that which is good and beneficial. Remember God’s goodness to us in the past, so we can actively live for Him in the future.

Realist or Skeptic? – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.  We are on Day 1834 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" Ifyou apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Warren Wiersbe, and it is, “A realist is an idealist who has gone through the fire and been purified. A skeptic is an idealist who has gone through the fire and been burned.”
    Realist or Skeptic?
I have to admit that I am very much an optimist, and within my personality style, I tend to reframe every situation to appear in the best light possible. I do tend to be idealistic at times. That being said, I have lived enough of life over the past 65 years to understand that I must live as a realist.
Sometimes life is not fair, and everyone goes through trials and tribulations. I have gone through my share of life difficulties, but I have allowed those fires to help mature and purify me as best as possible. I have not let that fire stifle me or my pursuit of living a rich and satisfying life. Other people are also idealists, as I have been at times, but have been discouraged when going through the fires of life.
Because of this mindset, they become very skeptical of living life. The fires may be similar in both situations, but our worldview and perspective will determine whether we become a realist or a skeptic. It is a choice; what is your choice? As Christians, we are to live a life of abundance, knowing that God has an eternal plan for us, and the trials are to mature and purify us.
    John 10:10
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

The Best Conversation – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1833 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, "A real friend is when you can sit alone together and never say a word...and walk away feeling that you have had the best conversation."
    The Best Conversation
True friendship runs much deeper than conversations that we may have with acquaintances and sometimes even family members.  Yet, so often, it is thought that friendships are built on having meaningful conversations with others. So, while you must frequently communicate with friends, there are no more extended periods of awkward silence within a conversation as the friendship deepens.
Instead, deep abiding friendships allow for a time of communion with each other where no actual words are spoken, but just the peaceful harmony of silence where you are content to be with someone you deeply love and respect. That is when you know in your heart that the friendship is real and everlasting.
That is the type of friendship that I have fostered with Granny. Yes, we have our time talking about many things and laughing about the simple things we do. But some of the best conversations are just being in each other’s company and feeling blessed, even if few words are spoken.
    Proverbs 18:24
There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is, “A real friend is a person who, when you’ve made a fool of yourself, lets you forget it.”
    A Real Friend
Do you have a friend that is so close to you that no matter how simple or foolish you are, they can laugh with you but never makes an issue of it? They will rarely mention it again and let it fade from your memory. Granny is that friend for me.
No matter if I make a fool of myself, she never brings it up in a negative manner. Now there are times when we will laugh with each other for some of the simple and foolish things we do in life. And, I admit it does allow times for a lot of laughing in our relationship.  That is an essential ingredient for a strong marriage or any close friendship.
Life is too short not to forgive and forget so that you can live a rich and satisfying life. So the next time a spouse or friend makes a fool of themselves, let them forget it and don’t bring it up. You would want the same thoughtfulness when you do foolish things also.
    1 Peter 4:8
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
    John 13:34-35
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.
