Live Outside Yourself – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1811 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Albert Einstein, and it is, "A person starts to live when he can live outside himself."
    Live Outside Yourself
Since we are created as imagers of God, our very nature is to image to others what God has become within our lives. This can only happen when we live outside of ourselves and our little cloistered world and start impacting the lives of others for God’s Kingdom. We were not created to isolate ourselves from the world, but to be salt and light by proclaiming Jesus Christ to a world that is dying of thirst and stumbling around in the darkness.
Once we realize that our vocation is to build God’s kingdom here on earth, our focus will shift from ourselves to everyone God permits to cross our life path. We need to climb out of our self-made prison, which only focuses inward, and break free to provide freedom to others.  Let us be salt and light every day.
    Matthew 5:13-16
"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."

Express Your Gratitude – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1810 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Michael Josephson, and it is, “A person of character feels and expresses gratitude freely and frequently.”
    Express Your Gratitude
Certain character traits distinguish a person as an upright person from someone who is not honorable. For example, one of the most vital traits of a respectable person is expressing gratitude freely and frequently in nearly every situation. Gratitude in this person is not forced or contrived; it is part of who that person is. Gratitude is tied closely to so many other positive character traits.
A person who magnifies appreciation as part of their life will be more joyful. They will get along with people better, and in most cases, will be physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthier. We, as Christ-followers, should always be grateful in all areas of our lives. God’s Word is full of examples of giving thanks at all times.
    Ephesians 5:20
And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1809 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Abraham Lincoln, and it is, “A person is generally about as happy as he’s willing to be.”
    Choose to Be Happy
As with nearly all situations in life, happiness in almost every case is a choice that we must make, and we need to make it each day. We are faced with choices continuously from what we will wear, what we will eat, and of course, how we will act or react during the day. All of us are faced with trials and difficulties. We can choose to be happy despite those times, or we can choose to be miserable.
Choosing to be miserable won’t change the difficult times; it may worsen them. But choosing instead to be happy in the face of problems will allow you to determine solutions, so you do not remain in those difficult times. Rarely, if ever, does a sour disposition help a situation; it only makes it worse. As imagers of God and our Lord Jesus Christ, we should certainly remain joyful in every case, and that joy and peace will also allow us to be happy. It is our choice. What will we choose for today and every day?
    Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

    Your Horizon – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1808 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from John Powell, and it is, "A person can grow only as much as your horizon allows."
    Your Horizon
Before you can achieve a dream, you must visualize that dream. The more detailed your dreams are, the more potential you have for success. For example, when driving down the road, your sight is limited by obstructions between you and your destination. If there are any obstructions, then your horizon is limited. On the other hand, if you are driving on a flat and straight road, your horizon may be miles away. So it is with life.
If your horizons are clear and far in the distance, it will be much easier to grow in whatever endeavors you are pursuing. Set your sights high so that you will be forced to grow beyond your current capabilities, forcing you to fulfill your God-given potential. It is by God’s grace that He allows us to become what we are capable of. He has given us all that we need. We need to utilize what he has given to us.
    2 Peter 1:2-4
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.  By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Principles Above Privileges – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1807 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Dwight D. Eisenhower, and it is, "A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both."
    Principles Above Privileges
As Christ-followers, our principles must be grounded on the principles in God’s Word. Of course, we as believers do have privileges, but they are entirely based on what God has done and not on what we feel are our rights as humans or citizens of any particular government. Suppose we allow our privileges to be more important than our principles. In that case, they will soon break down.
The point is that when the privileges which humans grant are taken from us, we will be left with neither privileges nor principles. We must never allow our principles to be compromised, to be granted a privilege.  All privileges that are not given to us by God will at some point be taken away.  When they are, we will be left with no foundation to stand on or live by, and we will become slaves to those who had previously granted us privilege. Stand only on the firm foundation of God’s Word; all other ground is sinking sand.
    Matthew 7:24-27
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.  Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise, and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.  But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.  When the rains and floods come, and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

A Critic or a Doer – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1806 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Wayne Dyer, and it is, "A non-doer is very often a critic — that is, someone who sits back and watches doers, and then waxes philosophically about how the doers are doing. It's easy to be a critic, but being a doer requires effort, risk, and change."
    A Critic or a Doer
It is so easy to be a critic. That is why so many people are critical of others. However, it is quite another thing to withhold criticism and get off your backside and do something. Being critical of someone or something does not produce anything worthwhile unless you are also prepared to step up, lend a hand, and have a positive impact. Being critical without assisting is like clouds and wind that do not bring rain to dry and arid soil.
So instead of being critical, be a doer. Yes, it does require effort, risk, and change, which will disrupt your life, but that is what we are called to do. As Christ-followers, we are to help those in need. So let’s look for ways to be doers every day. The Apostle Paul left us this example as was recorded in the Acts of the Apostles
    Acts 20:34-35
You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me. And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

An Old Broom – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1805 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is, “A new broom sweeps clean, but an old broom knows where the dirt is.”
    An Old Broom
It’s not always a good idea to get new everything, and sometimes experience is one of the best things to have. For example, a new broom has no experience in sweeping the floor. (Pretend these brooms sweep by themselves.) It has to go over the entire floor to ensure all the dirt is found. On the other hand, the old broom knows where all the dirt, dust, and grime usually accumulates. It knows what needs to be swept instead of going over the entire floor every time it works, so it is faster because of experience.
Another example is a business situation. New management may impose radical changes, but management with prior experience has more knowledge and implements changes more slowly and methodically. Again, there are suitable applications for both situations. Sometimes the problem requires a clean sweep, but more often than not, the knowledge that comes from experience cannot be replaced, no matter how talented or brilliant. God can use us in either situation. So if you are a new broom or an old broom, sweep to your best ability.
    Luke 15:8-10
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’  In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1804 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is a Jewish Proverb, and it is, “A mother understands what a child does not say.”
    A Mother Understands
Do you have, or have you ever had, that special person in your life that just intuitively knows what you are thinking or what your soul is crying out? It may be your mother, father, spouse, or close friend. This person can sense your needs, and they make themselves available to you when you need them most. This probably was a mother or grandmother for most of us as a child. This is someone who knew you better than you knew yourself was always there to care and provide for you. We all need a person with a nurturing disposition who intuitively knows and loves us unconditionally.
Are you that type of person to others that are dear to you? We need to have this type of love flowing through us. God has this love and care for each of us. As Christ followers, each of us has this comforter within us. It is God’s indwelling spirit that has taken up residence within us. He knows what our soul longs for even when we cannot express it in words.
    Romans 8:26-30
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

A Moment of Patience – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1803 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is, "A moment of patience in a moment of anger saves you a hundred moments of regret."
    A Moment of Patience
All too often, regret creeps into our lives when we say the wrong thing at the wrong time. When confronted with something that upsets us or makes us angry, we would do well to pause and take a deep breath before responding. We have to understand a couple of things...
We need to analyze why we have become angry. Was it something we said or did to offend or hurt the other person? Was it some action that a person may have misunderstood?  If either were the case, we certainly need to apologize for the misunderstanding and ensure them that it was not or should not have been our intent.
If it wasn’t something you said or did, then realize that the other person may be struggling with some issue that you do not know about and that you just are the recipient of their anger. That anger may not stem from you but from some subject outside your control or knowledge. If that is the case, you still need to be patient with that person.  We never know what another person is going through, and we should be willing to give a wide berth of understanding before we respond in kind.
These principles will alleviate much regret. As Christ-followers, we should always be willing to be patient and forgiving, just as God has forgiven us when we sin against him.
    Hebrews 10:36
Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

    Another Way – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1802 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Katharine Graham, and it is, “A mistake is simply another way of doing things.”
    Another Way
Although we don’t like them or purposely make mistakes, they are part of everyday life. If we get discouraged and give up, those mistakes will do us no good and only lead to failure. So while we should not make mistakes on purpose, when we do, we need to learn the lessons that those mistakes teach us. When we understand the lessons mistakes teach us, we discover one more path that we do not need to take, allowing us to start once again down a different path.
So let us not quit, but keep moving forward. God has provided us with the talents and abilities to accomplish His will for our lives. God knows and understands that we will make mistakes, but that does not faze Him. He does expect us to continue building His kingdom here on earth. So let us be about kingdom building with what God has already provided to us. Fulfill your calling; the rewards are eternal.
    1 Peter 4:10-11
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
