Find A Way – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1791 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Stephen Dolley, Jr., and it is, "A person who wants to do something will find a way; a person who doesn’t will find an excuse."
    Find A Way
The old saying, where there is a will, there is a way sums up this quote quite well. Of course, by its very statement, there must be a will to accomplish what needs to be done. The fact is that some people would choose to make excuses instead of finding a way to obtain what they desire.  Making excuses is easy. That is why some people prefer the path of no effort.  While it may be easier to make excuses than it is to find a way, in the end, it is a poor choice that leads to limited options for future choices. So if you desire to have choices and options for your life, you need to start finding ways to accomplish what you desire, instead of making excuses.
    Romans 1:19-20
They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Steal No More – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1790 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Theodore Roosevelt, and it is, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.”
    Steal No More
This quote appears to be somewhat humorous, but there is a lot of truth embedded in this thought when you think about it. For example, an uneducated person may steal to feed or clothe themselves and not even realize that it is wrong. Of course, that doesn’t excuse this person for their wrongdoing, but it is a situation where it is much easier to grant mercy to such a person.
On the other hand, an educated person would be more apt to steal by exploiting and taking advantage of others. This type of thief is much more egregious because they know that they are taking advantage of others and are purposely deceiving those they are stealing from. So the lesson is, that it is not only those who are desperately in need that perform crimes, but many times it is those who should know better and choose to act with evil intent regardless.
    Romans 2:20-24
You think you can instruct the ignorant and teach children the ways of God. For you are certain that God’s law gives you complete knowledge and truth.
Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal?  You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples? You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it.  No wonder the Scriptures say, “The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.”

Habits of Industry – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1789 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Richard Whately, and it is, “A person who gives their children habits of industry provides for them better than by giving them a fortune.”
    Habits of Industry
There is an old familiar saying, “give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, and you will feed him for a lifetime.” This statement is so true, and it also applies to what we teach our children and grandchildren. If you just continually provide for them without any responsibility on their part, they will never be able to provide for themselves. This concept is true of both families and governments.
How much better it is for a person to learn a skill to earn a living than just being given money or resources. Once the money or resources run out, they will be back for more.  If you teach valuable skills to your family and society in general they will become helpful, productive community members. It is much better for them in the long run, and it is much better for the community.
    Exodus 35:33-35
He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft. And the Lord has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others. The Lord has given them special skills as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth, and weavers. They excel as craftsmen and as designers.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1788 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Cardinal de Retz, and it is, "A person who doesn't trust himself can never truly trust anyone else."
    Trusting Others
If you find yourself unable to trust others, it is a time to look inwardly to determine if you are a trustworthy person. It is a fact that people in which we trust will disappoint us at times.  When this happens, we will struggle with trusting others. If we allow this mistrust of others to fester in us, we will become miserable and untrustworthy.
I have been disappointed with many persons who have violated the trust I had in them. At times it has impacted me significantly financially and emotionally. Yet, even through all of these difficult times, I have repeatedly said to Paula, I would rather trust others and have that trust occasionally violated than become cynical and not trust others.
To trust others, you must allow yourself to become vulnerable. Unfortunately, many of us are too proud to allow this. When this happens, we can become untrustworthy ourselves, finding it more challenging to trust others. So I urge you to become vulnerable, trust others, and make sure that you are trustworthy.
    Titus 3:3-8
Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.  But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love,  he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.  He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.
This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.

    Without Friends – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1787 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is, “A person who always says what they think is courageous — and without friends.”
    Without Friends
There is a difference between being truthful and being brutally honest without discretion. Yes, we should be honest in all of our dealings, but we must also do everything in love. I caution you that it is not always wise to speak your mind, especially if it will cause harm to another person. You can speak the truth in love, if you must speak at all.
Too often, when we speak our mind, it is without consideration of how our speech will impact the lives of others. It is not courageous to speak if what you say is harmful to others. It is just insensitive. God’s Word teaches us that we need to limit our speech, and when we speak, we should speak words of wisdom. Having friends requires that you show yourself friendly. One facet of showing yourself to be a friend, is not always speaking what is on your mind. Instead, speak in such a manner that you encourage and love those who are your friends.
    Ephesians 4:14-16
Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1786 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from St. Francis, and it is, "A person that does not know himself, is not known."
    Know Yourself
One significant issue with so many people who live without a proper perspective of who they are as part of God’s creation, struggle with themselves and their identity. We are created as imagers of God, and if we do not recognize and comprehend what this means, we cannot honestly image God as we should.
Without the supreme confidence that we are God’s masterpiece, we will continually struggle with self-identity. We will try to be someone of value based on our accomplishments. Ultimately this will lead to failure and disappointment in ourselves and all whom we interact with.
It is time to know yourself through the marvelous grace that God provided to us through His son, our savior, Jesus Christ. If we cannot love and accept ourselves, we cannot love or accept other people in our lives. Know yourself as an imager of God.
    Ephesians 2:8-10
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1785 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Marcus Aurelius, and it is, “A person should do away with unnecessary actions and unnecessary thoughts so that necessary actions will soon follow.”
    Necessary Actions
We often allow ourselves to be distracted by heading down unnecessary rabbit trails and clogging our minds with unnecessary thoughts. These distractions will take our focus off what is essential and stifle our productivity and effectiveness. It is so easy to do, especially for those who invest most of their time working on computers or other connected devices. Many social media platforms and other internet sites are designed to draw you in and keep you involved for hours.  That is how much of their revenue is generated.
Now, these platforms are not wrong in and of themselves, but anything that distracts us can negatively impact our lives by diminishing our productivity and effectiveness. Unnecessary actions and thoughts can manifest themselves in many areas of our lives. It could be getting lost in a good book or withdrawing into unproductive activities to escape what you should be focused on. While we all need a break at times from intense focus, I know that most of us find ourselves participating in unnecessary actions or dwelling on unnecessary thoughts. When we break from these harmful habits, we can then focus on what is essential and rewarding.
    Romans 12:9-13
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.  Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.  Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.  When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.

    Wiser Today – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1784 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Alexander Pope, and it is, “A person should never be ashamed to admit that they are in the wrong, which is but saying they are wiser today than they were yesterday.”
    Wiser Today
We will all make mistakes and be wrong about many things in our life. Unfortunately, too many times, we are reluctant to admit our mistakes and wrongdoings. It is a pride issue where we do not want other people to find out that we may have flaws or act incorrectly. However, we have to realize that others will most likely know already, and all we are doing by attempting to hide it is making ourselves look even more foolish.
So let us be quick to admit our mistakes and failures when they happen. Errors and losses are not only unavoidable; they are a prime source of wisdom from the lessons we can learn from them. When we are wrong about something, it provides us with an automatic lesson on how to improve. Never waste an opportunity to learn. Take every setup and obstacle in your path as the lessons they are. Never be too proud to admit your mistakes and errors; you will be wiser if you just learn from them.
    James 3:17-18
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.  And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Prayer Is Listening – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1783 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Soren Kierkegaard, and it is, "A man prayed, and at first, he thought that prayer was talking. But he became more and more quiet until, in the end, he realized that prayer is listening."
    Prayer Is Listening
So often, when we pray, we are so focused on telling God what we desire we miss that God is also communicating with us through His indwelling Holy Spirit. As part of prayer, it would do each of us a world of good if we would pause from our ceaseless ramblings and allow God to speak to us through prayer and His Word. A time for reflective meditation should become part of the process.
Just as with breathing, it takes both breathing in and breathing out for you to live. So it should be with prayer. As we pray for ourselves and others, we need to breathe our prayers out, followed by breathing in of God’s presence. Prayer is not a one-way street where we do all the talking, and God just listens. It is a dialog, and as with most dialogs, it will be much richer the more we remain silent and just listen.
    Matthew 6:5-14
When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Pray like this:
    Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
    May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
    as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need,
    and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil...

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Carlos Casteneda, and it is, “A person of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting.”
    Live By Acting
Thinking and planning are necessary steps to accomplish anything worthwhile, but unless you take action, all the thinking and planning in the world will be worthless. Therefore, action is required to achieve anything in life.
I have known a few people throughout my life that love to plan but find it challenging to move from the planning stage to taking action. These persons are always getting ready to get ready, but the execution of a plan rarely happens. Many times this stems from a perfectionist mentality. If something cannot be done perfectly, this type of person never moves beyond the dream. They need to learn that imperfect action is much better than perfect inaction.
Knowledge overflows by imperfect action. Not only will things be accomplished, but the lessons learned from the mistakes made will provide an abundance of knowledge that would be difficult to obtain otherwise. So move boldly forward, even if you don’t see all the steps of the plan. To get through the most arduous journey, we need to take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping.
    Ezra 10:4
Get up, for it is your duty to tell us how to proceed in setting things straight. We are behind you, so be strong and take action.
