A Stretched Mind – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1801 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!"  If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Oliver Wendell Holmes, and it is, "A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions."
    A Stretched Mind
Stretching your mind is another way of saying that you are being forced out of your comfort zone.  Stretching our minds is not our natural inclination.  Most people like to remain in their comfort zone, but doing so does not allow us to fulfill our God-given potential. When we stretch our minds we grow and expand to the point where we will never be the same. We become more, a better version of ourselves.
Therefore, we should pursue activities and experiences that allow us to learn, stretch, and grow. When we use the talents and abilities that God has gifted us, we will fulfill our holy calling and be building His kingdom. God has chosen to use humanity to further His work. It is up to us to take on these new experiences with passion and enthusiasm to grow personally and bring honor to God. Each of us is gifted differently, but we are responsible for our talents.
    1 Corinthians 12:4-11
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us to help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice ; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

The Character of a Person – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1800 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Malcolm S. Forbes, and it is, “You can easily judge the character of a person by how they treat those who can do nothing for them.”
    The Character of a Person
Most businesses, organizations, and relationships are driven by a Quid pro quo philosophy, a Latin phrase used in English to mean an exchange of goods or services. One transfer is contingent upon the other, or “a favor for a favor.” Phrases with similar meanings include: “give and take,” “tit for tat,” “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours,” and “one hand washes the other.” Based on this philosophy, you cannot tell a person’s character. A person’s true character is only seen when they are willing to serve and assist others when the receiving person can do absolutely nothing for the one giving.
A person who has an honorable character is a person who doesn’t expect a return favor. They know that it is impossible to receive anything in return yet are willing, able, and happy to assist another person in need. The Christ-follower should possess this type of character. We need to be willing to help and show the love of Christ to all we encounter, regardless of their ability to do anything for us in return. This is the type of love God has for us, as seen through Jesus Christ.
    Romans 5:6-11
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus...

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1799 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from William Wrigley, Jr., and it is, “A person’s doubts and fears are their worst enemies.”
    Worst Enemies
Nothing is more harmful to a person than to allow doubts and fears to consume them. It causes paralysis, uncertainty, and ultimately failure. Most doubts and fears are self-generated and should not control us. What we do not consciously realize is the core issue behind doubt and fear is pride.
We are afraid that we will not measure up, or even fail. We are fearful of what others may think of us. We are scared that we don’t have what it takes to succeed. We forget that we are created as imagers of the living God. He made us his masterpiece and has equipped us with everything that we need to live a life of godliness. He has given us the talents and abilities that we need to succeed to the level that He desires.
God expects us to use what he has given to us for His honor and glory. That is all, and that is enough. God also knows that we, at times, are weak and lose our confidence in ourselves and ultimately in Him. His word is full of precious promises that will give us the strength to carry on, even when we are afraid. Joshua was Moses’ understudy for 40 years, and He saw the mighty hand of God at work many times.  Yet, when it was his time to take over the leadership of the Nation of Israel, God had to remind him that He was sufficient if Joshua continued to follow Him.
    Joshua 1:6-9
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God

The Greatness Index – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1798 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Zadok Rabinwitz, and it is, "A person’s dreams are an index to their greatness."
    The Greatness Index
When speaking about a book, an index is an alphabetical list at the end of a book that shows the page where each item in the list can be found. An index is a pointer to where a particular record is located within a larger file or database in the computer programming world.  Indexes are handy, but it only points to another location. So it is with our dreams.
We can have lofty dreams that represent our potential, but it is not the result. To achieve greatness and success of any kind, we need to take action to make the dreams become our reality. Yes, dreams are essential because they lay the groundwork necessary to achieve in life. So dream, and dream big. But understand that they are just the pointers or indexes to real success.
    James 1:22-25
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.  For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.  You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.  But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Benjamin Franklin, and it is, “A person wrapped up in themselves makes a very small bundle.”
    A Small Bundle
If you have spent much time with a self-absorbed person, you understand the meaning of this quote today. When a person is always attempting to promote themselves or if they are always talking about themselves, your perspective of such a person is diminished. Although a person like this may appear to come off as confident or arrogant, the underlying reason is that they lack true peace and confidence in themselves. To make up for their lack of confidence, they swing to the other end of the pendulum and go overboard in making everything centered on them.
For a Christ-follower, we need to realize that all we are or ever hope to be comes from God, and our confidence rests in Him. We can then be confident yet humble. We can be at peace amid the turmoil. As imagers of God, we can take the spotlight off of ourselves and let that light shine through us to the Lord of Heaven’s armies.
    Ephesians 1:18
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Today’s quote is from Benjamin Franklin, and it is, "A person without courage is like a knife without an edge."
    Without Courage
Having tools that are broken or not as functional as possible is highly frustrating. We burn a lot of firewood during the wintertime to help heat ‘The Big House," which requires a significant amount of cutting and splitting the wood to have an adequate supply.  I have a large 24” Husqvarna chain saw, and while it does a great job when the chain is new and sharp, it does not take long when cutting hard oak trees for the chain to dull.
Cutting with a dull chain saw reminds me of today’s quote.  It is challenging to make any progress with a dull chain...It is like living without the courage to handle the challenging times of life.  When the chain dulls much at all, it is time to stop and invest the time needed to resharpen the chain. So it is with courage.
If you lack courage in any area of life, you will become ineffective and unable to make progress. Just as the chain needs to be sharpened to make progress cutting the firewood, you will need to continuously sharpen yourself to gain the courage necessary to keep moving forward. Gaining that courage will not be easy and require shaving off the shell you are hiding behind to expose the courage you need. This process is like sharpening the chain where you remove what is worn to reveal a sharp edge to continue moving forward.
    Deuteronomy 31:6
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1795 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from a Chinese Proverb, and it is, “A person without a smiling face must not open a shop.”
    People Love a Smiling Face
Have you ever entered a store or shop, and the workers seemed to have just sucked on a sour lemon? Unfortunately, most of us have had those experiences. It makes you scratch your head and wonder why they are in business at all if they can’t at least be thankful that someone has blessed them by allowing them to serve their needs.
Those that don’t have a good attitude about their work will probably not stay employed or be in business very long. The culture of any company starts with the owners or top managers within that company. If an owner of a business is not friendly and helpful to his employees, he should not expect the employees to be any different to the customers. You can tell almost immediately what the culture of a company or business is when you walk into it.
That is why it is so essential that attitudes and values flow from the very top of the company. If the owner or top management does not reflect integrity and values, they should not be in that position. As imagers of our creator, God, we should always show forth His goodness in every life situation.
    Titus 2:6-8
In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely.  And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.  Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1794 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16  How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Dave Ramsey, and it is: A person with experience is never at the mercy of a person with an opinion.
    Experience vs Opinion
More than at any other time in history, everyone has an opinion about everything and is not ashamed to let everyone know what it is. It has been said that opinions are like armpits, everyone has at least two, and both usually stink.  What is much better than opinions is experience.  If you have gone through the discipline to gain expertise in any area of life, you are not at the mercy of those who have opinions but no experience.   It seems to me that those who have the least amount of experience in any given area seem to have the strongest opinions as if they were the experts.  So instead of spouting an opinion, make sure that you have experience and knowledge in those areas.  We certainly do not need any more self-proclaimed prophets with far too little experience and many opinions.   As Christ-followers we are to be meek and humble with others allowing God’s Word and his precepts to be seen in us.  Our focus is to do our best in all areas of life and use our expertise and experience to build God’s kingdom.
    Proverbs 18:2
Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1793 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Louis Miser, and it is, "A person who works with their hands is a laborer; a person who works with their hands and brain is a craftsman, but a person who works with their hands, brain, and heart is an artist."
    Be An Artist
While there is nothing wrong with being a laborer as long as you fulfill your God-given potential, many do not entirely fulfill their destiny. For some, they would prefer to do as little as possible and be spectators in life. However, since we are created as God’s imagers, we need to fully utilize our role as an imager. This statement means using our body, mind, and soul (or heart) to live a rich and satisfying life.
Our purpose is to do all that we can and use every opportunity we have, to build God’s kingdom here on earth. Your natural talents and abilities may be small or great.  Neither is better. As long as we are entirely using what God has given to us, then that is what we should do.
    1 Corinthians 15:58

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Max Lucado, and it is, “A person who wants to lead the orchestra must turn their back on the crowd.”
    Turn Your Back on Others
Leadership at times can be rather lonely, regardless of the type of organization you lead. Leadership requires that you separate yourself from the masses, and take your stand.  You must turn your back on the crowd so that those you are leading can follow. Not only must you turn your back on those you are teaching, but you must also take action. Once you begin towards your goals and objectives, your leadership will display the fruit of success. You will attract a following as you start to lead. So lead, and lead well.
    2 Peter 1:5-7
In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,  and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,  and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
