Portals of Discovery – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1781 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16  says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from James Joyce, and it is, "A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery."
    Portals Of Discovery
Most of the time, we do not make mistakes on purpose, but a person of genius realizes that mistakes are part of life as if we did make them of our own volition.  Knowing that mistakes will happen, instead of allowing them to derail or destroy us or our plans, mistakes or errors provide us with an opportunity to learn and to discover why something didn’t work out as planned.  Once we peer through that discovery portal, we can begin with the added knowledge that we learned from our mistakes. So never allow mistakes and failures to stop your progress. Instead, let them be the stepping stones required to continue towards your pursuits. It is then that you are a person of genius.
    James 3:17-18
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace-loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.  And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.

Realize Your Potential – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1780 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Charles De Gaulle, and it is, “A person of character finds a special attractiveness in difficulty, since it is only by coming to grips with difficulty that you can realize your potential.”
    Realize Your Potential
For most of us, we do not comprehend our true potential until the trials of life test us. However, if we take time to bask in the results of those trials, they will become attractive to us, and as such, we will not be discouraged or quit when difficulty knocks on our door. When we recognize that problems can help and improve us as a person and we come to grips with that fact, we can be prepared to face those difficult times.
So, while you are going about your daily trek of life and the trail becomes steep and troublesome, realize that you will see the benefits of those difficult times when you finally reach the summit. We can take comfort in realizing our potential and that God is traveling with us each step of the way. So, don’t give up or be discouraged; instead be happy that you are becoming a better representative of God’s image.
    Philippians 1:6
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Admit Your Mistakes – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1779 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from John Maxwell, and it is, “A person must be big enough to admit their mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them.”
    Admit Your Mistakes
There are a lot of people who do not want to take responsibility for the mistakes they make. Instead, they would rather play the victim card and blame someone or something else for the mistakes or errors they make in life. We should not be that way.
Before God and our fellow humans, we need to accept complete responsibility for mistakes, errors in judgment, and sins that crop up in our lives. We need to humbly admit them to others, learn the lessons gained from those mistakes, and then have the fortitude to correct the issues, so we do not repeat those same mistakes. It does take a confident yet humble person to own up to our flaws so that we can grow beyond them. Our confidence comes from our standing before God, knowing that we are utilizing our God-given talents and abilities to do the best we can.
When we realize that we have fallen short, we need to take the lessons learned and do even better the next time. In all things, let us give God the glory for all He has accomplished in our lives.
    James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

Hungry for God – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1778 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Leonard Ravenhill, and it is, "A man may study because his brain is hungry for knowledge, even Bible knowledge. But he prays because his soul is hungry for God."
    Hungry for God
We all have cravings in life.  Most of us have cravings for food, success, and recognition, and we will do practically anything to obtain them. However, some people also have a hunger for knowledge and will consume books and teachings. This hunger is because our brains are created to learn and absorb untold amounts of knowledge, including knowledge of God and His Word.
Learning can be excellent, and if appropriately applied, very beneficial to our world. However, there is one hunger that will never be satisfied by knowledge alone. That is the hunger of the soul. We may learn Biblical truths, but it will create a longing in our soul that can only be satisfied when we commune with God through prayer. So satisfy your hunger for God by continually going to him in prayer.
    Matthew 5:6
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.

The Footprints You Leave – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1777 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Margaret Lee Runbeck, and it is, “A person leaves all kinds of footprints when they walk through life. Some you can see...others are invisible, like the prints they leave across other people’s lives.”
    The Footprints You Leave
This quote is impactful and accurate. We all leave footprints in life, both literally but more critically, figuratively. Your impact on the lives of other people cannot be taken for granted, nor can it be minimized. That impact echoes throughout all of eternity, from generation to generation. It is your only true legacy on others. That is so much more important than any material resources that you may leave for others. We must be aware of our daily treading on the lives of others. Make sure that the imprints that we are leaving on those lives are positive and encouraging.
As you walk through life, walk humbly and circumspectly. Be aware of the tremendous responsibility towards others, especially those closest to you, such as friends and family members. How you walk will many times determine how others walk. Just like a child attempting to walk in his parent's footsteps, you impact others who walk into and out of your life.
    Ephesians 5:15-20
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What Are You Known For? – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1776 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is, "A man is not only known by the company he keeps, but by the enemies he makes."
    What Are You Known For?
We can be known for a lot of different things in our lives.  Such as what we do as an occupation or what church or clubs we associate with. One of the primary ways we are known is by the people we associate with or don’t associate with. Those that we keep company with and invest a lot of time with will largely determine how we act and the activities we are involved in. Those people will either positively or negatively impact our lives. Others will judge us, either fairly or unfairly, by the company that we keep.
They will also judge us by those who are considered our enemies. Especially in today’s politically charged environment, we have lost a lot of civilities where we no longer feel we can agree to disagree and remain civil with others. So we need to be careful of both who we associate with and those we consider to be enemies. My mom used to tell us that if you sleep with dogs, don’t be surprised when you wake up with fleas. This saying is so true; you will be known for the company you keep and the company you don’t keep. Choose wisely.
    1 Corinthians 15:33
Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”

    Not Old – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1775 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from John Barrymore, and it is, “A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.”
    Not Old
It doesn’t matter your biological age; you can still be young and vibrant as long as you hold onto your dreams. Your age is just a number, and until you start regretting what you have done or feel that you are too old to reach your dreams, you will still have a youthful disposition and outlook on life that no one can pluck from your hand. So dream big and then take action to reach those dreams.
Always do your best. Your best will change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret. We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.
I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end. The past is a great place, and I don’t want to erase it or regret it, but I don’t want to be its prisoner either. So regardless of the past, leave it there. Press forward to become all that God intended you to be.
    Luke 9:57-62
As they were walking along, someone said to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
He said to another person, “Come, follow me.”
The man agreed, but he said, “Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.”
But Jesus told him, “Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead! Your duty is to go and preach about the Kingdom of God.”
Another said, “Yes, Lord, I will follow you, but first let me say good-bye to my family.”
But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

Defeated By Self – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1774 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Jan Christian Smuts, and it is, “A man is not defeated by his opponents but by himself.”
    Defeated By Self
No one can be permanently defeated unless they choose to give up. Hence, in most situations, the person who no longer tries will experience the agony of defeat instead of the thrill of victory. Yes, we may fail, but we are not defeated as long as we do not fail to begin again. Being defeated comes from within when you give up, trying again. Therefore, there is always another chance for victory if we choose to persevere during those difficult times.
Life is not always easy, and it is sometimes downright difficult, but that is life. That is no excuse to quit. We are created to be imagers of God, and He has gifted us with all that we need to live a victorious life in Him. No one has the same talents and abilities, and God only expects us to use what He has given to us. If we do that, then we will always be successful as we continue to journey through our trek of life.
    1 Corinthians 12:4-11
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person...

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1773 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, and it is, "A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes."
    You Become What You Think
This quote has so much truth contained in it. It also mirrors the same teaching that is found in God’s Word. Many people look at a quote like this and slant it towards something wrong or evil, but the opposite can be true.
Once again, it goes back to the law of planting and harvesting...Whatever you plant into your mind, that is what will grow in your life. That is what you will become. It is so evident. We don’t ever slip into bad or good habits. Our continual thought process forms habits, and the actions we take are based on those thoughts.
The key is to saturate your mind with what is good, pleasing, kind, and encouraging to others. Anyone can become a person of virtue. Even if you have to plow up the lousy soil of your mind and then start with a new crop, it is achievable.
    Luke 6:43-45
A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.  A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thorn bushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes.  A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1772 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Bob Dylan, and it is, “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between, he does what he wants to do.”
    Success Brings Contentment
There are many measures of success, but one of the most valid measures of a successful and content person is someone who loves what they do from the time they wake up in the morning until they lay down to sleep at night. This person may not be financially wealthy or well known, but having enough to take care of themselves and their families, they are satisfied with life.  So many people are always chasing that elusive rainbow where the grass is always greener.  Even if they do become rich and famous, they are always grasping for more. That is not success, but slavery to materialism, vanity, and pride.  We need to work towards being a person of integrity and conviction. A person who cares for their family and others will find enjoyment and satisfaction at the end of any day.
    Philippians 4:10-12
How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.  I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.
