  • Day 1904 – Adverse Criticism – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1904 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

    Adverse Criticism – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1904 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Wisdom-Trek, and it is: Adverse criticism from a wise man does more good than the enthusiastic praise of a fool.
    Adverse Criticism

If we surround ourselves with people who only praise us regardless of our performance, we will never have the capacity to grow and improve. On the other hand, if we freely associate with people who will be honest and forthright with us because they are concerned for our well-being, we will become much better. The key is to surround yourself with wise people as much as possible. It is of no benefit to have foolish people around us, even if they try to make us feel good, if they don’t have your best interest long-term at heart.

Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Phil Ware, and it is: Addiction is a God-hunger directed to the wrong source of soul satisfaction.
    The Source of Addiction

If we are honest with ourselves, we all have addictions that are desires and cravings that only God can fulfill. Some addictions are much more socially acceptable, like overworking or overexercising when you need to be investing time with your family and friends. These addictions may destroy those we love most if not kept in check. Other addictions, such as overeating, alcohol, drugs, or sex, will ruin you as a person and those who love you most. We all must recognize addictions and compulsive behaviors for what it truly is, a heart yearning to be fulfilled by God. If our faith and trust were entirely in God, we would be completely satisfied at all times and would not need to bury ourselves in addictions. God knows our weaknesses and is available to complete us, if we allow him to do so. He provided Jesus Christ for salvation, and once we understand that, we can gradually increase our faith until our addictions fall away and our fullness is in Christ. What do you need assistance with today to overcome?

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+3%3A14-19andversion=NLT (Ephesians 3:14-19)

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Fathe,r the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and it is: Add energy, inspire hope, and blow the coals into a useful flame.
    A Useful Flame

I grew up on a farm where we had to heat much of our home with a coal-burning fireplace and a potbelly stove. Every cold day it was vital that we continue to add coal (that is, energy) to keep our home warm. The warmth inspired hope in us that the effort expended to maintain the fire was worth it. By adding coal at the correct time, we would have a useful flame. If we did not add coal in time and the fire went out, as long as there were some warm embers, we could blow the fire back into a useful flame, but it required additional effort. So it is with life, we must continually add energy and hope to our plans and efforts to keep them alive, and if we are slow doing so, we must blow the coals of desire to continue on the path moving forward. Allow God to spur you on in your efforts each day as you serve Him and build His kingdom.

    2 Timothy 1:5-7

I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Today’s quote is from Nelson Mandela, and it is: Action without vision is only passing time, vision without action is merely daydreaming, but vision with action can change the world.
    Change The World

Anyone can change the world or at least their world, which will ripple through eternity. However, it does require the proper combination of vision and action. When you have action but no vision, you spin your wheels but do not get anywhere worthwhile. When you have the vision, even a great vision, but no action, you will daydream, but once again, you will not accomplish anything worthwhile. So the key is to have a solid vision coupled with a plan and then put that plan into action. You create the momentum and possibility to change your world when you do this.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James+1%3A23-25andversion=NLT (Hebrews) 11:1-3

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

Today’s quote is from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and it is: Action springs not so much from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility.
    Ready for Action

Preparation is always the key to successful action. Intellectually, you may need to plan, but mental planning must evolve into physical preparation, which will develop into action when the opportunity comes knocking at your door. If you are not ready and responsible, you may never even recognize the opportunity when it does arrive. Success in any area of life is that place in the road where preparation meets opportunity. You must be prepared and responsible for taking action.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James+1%3A23-25andversion=NLT (James 1:23-25)

For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Today’s quote is from Mark Twain, and it is: Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.
    Actions or Words

We all know people who talk a little too much and are short on taking action. They are the type who will gladly share their opinion, but not lend a hand to assist. Unfortunately, we all fall into this situation, and we need to take more action and speak fewer words. Our actions speak much louder than our words, even if you have no sound made from those actions. Jesus’s half-brother James said the same thing about our faith when he announced that faith without works is useless. So show your faith by your actions. Instead of speaking, just do it. Instead of telling someone what you plan to do, show that person what you have done and are now doing. Words are a lousy substitute for action. Instead, use words to be kind and encouraging to others. If you have a choice between actions and words, choose action every time.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James+2%3A14-17andversion=NLT (James 2:14-17)

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps.

Today’s quote is from Norman Vincent Peale, and it is: Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different actions or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.
    Action Builds Confidence

To confidently move forward in life, you must take action. I realize that certain people are more action-oriented, but when action is not taken, our minds will start dwelling on what may go wrong, which causes additional fear and anxiety. Inaction will cause a downward spiral which is challenging to escape from. On the other hand, your confidence will grow, and your worries will subside if you take action. Taking action does not guarantee that all will succeed or that you will be free from adverse situations, but you will still be moving. Yes, just like a sailboat must continually adjust the sails to the prevailing winds, and a jet plan must constantly adapt its heading, when you take action, it is much easier to change your course and needed. There is no reason to be fearful when God is directing us. Even if it may be somewhat flawed, any action is better than no action. So get up, take action, and move confidently forward.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+11%3A32-35andversion=NLT (Hebrews 11:32-35)
How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith, these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Women received their loved ones back again from death.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1897 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from Gramps, and it is: Achievement is not always defined by victory. Sometimes achievement lies in the honest endeavor to do your best under all circumstances, knowing that on any given day, an intensely personal effort may be the only thing that separates you from your competition. So, to be your best, grab your paddle and get moving.
    Achievement Is Honest Endeavor

We all desire to be triumphant and victorious in our endeavors in life. The question is, can achievement be reached short of victory? The answer is a resounding yes! Achievement is measured by how far you progress from your starting point, based on your individual talents and abilities. Achievement for you will and should be different from anyone else. We all have a unique set of God-given talents, skills, and abilities. It is up to you to do your best under all circumstances based on what you can achieve, not others. On any given day, your intensely personal effort will be what separates you from anyone else, even if it is a competitive situation. Always do your best for God’s glory, and you will achieve what you need to. It is then you can rest in the fact that you have completed what God intended for you.

Today’s quote is from Jack Nicklaus, and it is: Achievement is primarily the product of steadily raising one’s level of aspiration and expectation.
    Aspiration and Expectation

We all want to achieve significantly in life, but the thought of big achievements seems to be out of reach for many. This is not the case though. The way to achieve greatness is to accomplish small increments and do the same each day. Then, once you reach a desired level of achievement, raise your aspirations and expectations one additional level. The journey of a thousand miles is accomplished one step at a time. It takes perseverance and discipline to do a little more tomorrow than you completed today, like anything worth achieving. So don’t be discouraged if you are not making the progress you hope for; keep on each day, and sooner than you realize, much will be accomplished. Little is much when God is in it.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Welcome to Day 1895 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Prayer In Your Daily Occupation – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1895 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from François Fénelon, and it is: Accustom yourself gradually to carry prayer into all your daily occupation — speak, act, work in peace, as if you were in prayer, as indeed you ought to be.
    Prayer In Your Daily Occupation

Prayer to our Holy Yahweh has been associated with being the same as breathing in and out. Breathing is not only vital to our biological life but has also been seen as spiritually significant in most religious traditions. In the creation narrative, God breathes life into the nostrils of humankind. The Spirit is the “breath of God,” the animating force that fills our lungs. Jesus, in sending out the twelve, breathes on them as a ritual to symbolize the presence of the Spirit with and in them.

Breathing prayer takes many forms. One of the most well-known in the Christian tradition would be the “Jesus Prayer” that comes to us from our Eastern Orthodox kin. Another, perhaps somewhat less familiar, is tied to the Jewish tradition.

The Jews did not speak God’s name, but breathed it with an open mouth and throat: inhale—Yah; exhale—weh. We speak God’s name and participate in God’s breath by our very breathing. This is our first and our last word as we enter and leave the world.

Everything we speak, every action, needs to also be in the spirit of prayer lifted to the almighty who reigns on high. Be at peace with God, others, and yourself as you go through every moment of each day. Remain in a spirit of prayer at all times.

    1 Thessalonians 5:15-18

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
