Welcome to Day 1864 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

The Gift Of Voice – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1864 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Margaret Atwood, and it is: A voice is a human gift; it should be cherished and used, to utter fully human speech as possible. Powerlessness and silence go together.
    The Gift Of Voice

God has blessed humankind with a full range of communication, which the crowning jewel is our voice. We can encourage and build up others or destroy others with our voice. We can spread kindness, or spew hate. We can tell others of the Good News found in His Word with our voice. I will never understand those who use their voice for cursing when language is so full and rich with excellent and wholesome words. The Bible is packed with warnings of speaking too much. Most of those references are about communicating with no purpose or meaning and babbling on without really saying anything helpful.

The opposite is also crucial. If we fail to speak up when we should, we become powerless. So instead, speak up for those who are suffering. Speak up when you see injustices. Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Speaking when you should be silent is foolishness. Remaining silent when you should speak up is cowardness. Use the power of your voice to bring glory to God and to build His kingdom.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+31%3A8-9andversion=NLT (Proverbs 31:8-9)

    Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves;
ensure justice for those being crushed.
Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
and see that they get justice.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Rosabeth Moss Kanter, and it is: A powerful vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.
    A Powerful Vision

To accomplish much at all in life, we need a vision. That vision must be powerful enough to allow a plan to be designed to move forward towards that vision. The plan must be detailed and compelling enough to foster execution because vision without execution is just a hallucination. The result must become an appeal that will enable you to better yourself and become more than you were previously. In my role caring for aging parents, I have seen first-hand the unfortunate side effects of advancing dementia and Parkinson’s disease, which causes very realistic hallucinations. They can cause significant fear where the person is in fear of their lives, and at other times, the hallucinations are people familiar to them but have long since died. The visions that come from age-related issues are not real but are not all that much different than those who have a vision for the future but are unwilling to invest the resources necessary for those visions to become a reality. Both of them are outside the scope of reality. If you want to see your dreams and visions come true, they must be powerful enough to force you to plan and then execute that plan to the end. The vision must also go beyond the status quo to the improvement of yourself and those you impact. You must reach new heights to be all that God intended you to be. God will guide you, but you must step out with your vision.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2029%3A18andversion=NLT (Proverbs 29:18)

When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Paul Dudley White, and it is: A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.
    A Vigorous Walk

When you are unhappy or a bit depressed, I know that you may not feel like getting out and walking vigorously, but it is so much better for you than additional medicine or talking through your feelings with a therapist. It is also much less expensive. I am not saying that medication and therapist are not required at times, but have you tried vigorously walking daily as an alternative? If not, it is certainly worth trying. According to the Mayo Clinic, physical activity doesn’t need to be complicated. Something as simple as a brisk daily walk can help you live a healthier life.

For example, regular brisk walking can help you:

Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat

Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes

    Improve cardiovascular fitness

    Strengthen your bones and muscles

    Improve muscle endurance

    Increase energy levels

Improve your mood, cognition, memory, and sleep

    Improve your balance and coordination

    Strengthen immune system

    Reduce stress and tension

The faster, farther, and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits. For example, you may start out as an average walker, and then work your way up to walking faster and walking a mile in a shorter amount of time than an average walker, similar to power walkers. This can be a great way to get aerobic activity, improve your heart health and increase your endurance while burning calories.

You can also alternate periods of brisk walking with leisurely walking. This type of interval training has many benefits, such as improving cardiovascular fitness and burning more calories than regular walking. And interval training can be done in less time than regular walking.

I cannot speak or decide for others, nor would I presume to do so, but I can speak for myself. At 65, I walk or jog at least five days a week. I am at or near my ideal weight and overall excellent health. I am told that I look considerably younger than my age and have strong bones and muscles. This would not be true if I did not get proper exercise, sufficient sleep, and eat healthy, balanced meals.

Since our bodies are considered God’s temple on earth and imagers of Him, we certainly should do all that we can to maintain a fit dwelling place for God’s spirit.

Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
    Enjoy The Scenery

Prior to thinking that GPS units were a required device in every vehicle, were you ever on a trip where you were completely lost and ended up on some back road? Even with the sophistication of GPS on our phones today, which tracks our speed, location and even warns us of road construction and accidents; we have been detoured on back roads several times to avoid getting stuck in traffic. What is your reaction when either of these scenarios occurs? The best response is to take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery. Some of the most enjoyable trips have been off the freeways and experiencing the beautiful back roads. There is so much to experience in life when we end up on detours. We must learn in every situation that God is in control and has allowed the detours to happen for a purpose. Enjoy the scenery, count your blessings, and give God the glory for those detours of life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013%3A11%2D13andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 13:11-13)

When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Florence Allshorn, and it is: A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.
    A Truly Good Book

Have you ever been reading an enthralling book that is so difficult that hours will go by without you realizing it? It is as if you were one of the characters in that book, living in their place and time. I enjoy such books, whether it is fiction or non-fiction. Movies can be the same way, and I tend to be more fascinated with movies or books based on actual events. In recent years, I have switched over almost entirely to audiobooks to listen to them while working outside or doing a myriad of other tasks. I especially enjoy the Sy-Fy genre based in space. I imagine myself being ported off to galaxys unknown and far away. Books and movies allow us to be transported into other people’s lives and worlds. Books that stir us to be better, live better, encourage, care for, and love others more profoundly go beyond just reading. It moves us to act on what we have read. Being moved to change does not result in change unless we choose to change. There is one book, often referred to as ‘The Good Book,’ which is a collection of books, letters, and poems; the Bible should radically change us to the point where we are no longer satisfied with just reading it, but to live according to its precepts. It should motivate us to live so that others will see our lives and know that we have been changed from the inside out.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A4-9andversion=NLT (Philippians 4:4-9)

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: A true leader produces more leaders.
    Produce More Leaders

The universal law of multiplication is valid for crops and people. Just as a good kernel of corn will produce many more seeds, the same applies to people. As a result, each of us is leaving a legacy of impact on the lives of others. That legacy may be good or bad, depending on the seeds we are planting into those we nurture. A good and godly leader will produce more leaders who will be good and godly. Regardless of what we do to earn a living, we should never underestimate the significant impact on those who cross our paths each day. Going back to the analogy of the kernel of corn, when you plant that kernel, it will always produce corn, never anything else. The same is true of our lives; what we are will be replicated in our children, grandchildren, and others we encounter. The only way to live on after we die is through those same people we impact.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+12%3A23-26andversion=NLT (John 12:23-26)
Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. 26 Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Today’s quote is from an Anonymous Source, and it is: A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.
Character Traits Of A True Leader

Being in a leadership position is not always easy. The fact is, it is pretty challenging at times. I have joked in the past that leadership would be easy if you didn’t have to deal with people. However, that is what leadership is all about, as we all know. You must have unwavering confidence to lead well, even when no one agrees with you. In addition, you must have unshakeable courage in the face of the most challenging decisions. But you also must have deep compassion to facilitate the needs of others. A Biblically sound leader does not set out to be a great leader, but becomes one through the integrity of their intent and unquestionable quality of their actions. As we see the example in Scripture from the only perfect imager of God, we become a leader when we are willing to serve others. It is then that others will follow as you lead by facilitating Biblical precepts found in God’s Word.

So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you, it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Today’s quote is from William Arthur Ward, and it is: A true friend knows your weaknesses, but shows you your strengths, feels your fears but fortifies your faith, sees your anxieties but frees your spirit, recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities.
    A True Friend Knows

Most of us will only have one or two true friends during our lifetime. Few of us have the capacity to invest that deeply into the lives of others. For me, that would be Granny, who I love more deeply than anyone else. She knows my weaknesses, fears, anxieties, and disabilities better than I know myself. The opposite of that is also true. These limiting character traits do not become a point of contention between us, but rather an opportunity to deeply invest in each other’s lives to strengthen and build up one another. We are to point out our friend’s strengths, not emphasize their weaknesses. We are to fortify their faith, not highlight their fears. We are to give them the freedom to grow, not hinder them by collaborating with their anxieties. We are to show them their possibilities for the future, not give them reasons to see their disabilities. As Christ-followers, we are to build up and strengthen our fellow believers at every opportunity we are given, so our friends can maximize their God-given talents and abilities.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+12%3A9-12andversion=NLT (Romans 12:9-12)

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Welcome to Day 1856 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Accept, Support, and Encourage – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1856 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.

Today’s quote is from an Unknown Source, and it is: A true friend is someone who accepts your past, supports your present, and encourages your future.
    Accept, Support, And Encourage

Too often, we are prone to judge, abandon, and discourage others, even if we consider them to be our friends. As Christ-followers, this should never be. Although we may have to live with the consequences of past actions, good and bad, we can never go back and change what has already been done. Therefore, there is no need to judge others, especially friends, for what they did in the past. God forgives our past and remembers them no more, and we should be willing to do the same. We then need to love and support our friends in the present. If you genuinely love them and see them making unwise decisions, you need to love them enough to carefully advise them and pray with them. Finally, we should always be encouraging to others, especially our friends. Encourage and help them achieve their dreams for their future. Be supportive, loving, kind, and above all, help them walk humbly with our God.

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.’

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Thomas Merton, and it is: A tree gives glory to God by being a tree. For in being what God means it to be, it is obeying Him...The more a tree is like itself, the more it is like Him.
Be What God Designed You To Be

God does expect us to utilize the talents and abilities that He has given to us to our full potential. However, God does not expect us to fulfill what others may have for us. God does not expect a bush to become a tree. God does not expect a bird to become a rabbit. If we judge a fish by his ability to climb a tree, he would be incapable of doing so, and would die trying. But if we judge a fish by their swimming ability, we would see that they do pretty well. The same applies to each individual in humankind. We all have a unique set of God-given talents and abilities. As imagers of God, he does expect us to live fully manifest what He has given us personally, but not what He may have provided to another imager. Therefore, comparing ourselves to others can be deceiving or devastating.

On the other hand, comparing ourselves to who we were yesterday can be exhilarating. Let us measure ourselves according to God’s standard found in His Word. Let us be on the path of continual improvement as we become more like Jesus Christ, the only perfect imager.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%208%3A28%2D30andversion=NLT (Romans 8:28-30)

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.
