  • Day 1634 – A Bend In The Road – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1634 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Bend In The Road – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! We are on Day 1634 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Helen Keller, and it is: A bend in the road is not the end of the road... unless you fail to make the turn.
    A Bend In The Road
Life is full of twists and turns, and the older I become, the more I realize that you can never anticipate all of them. As I look back on nearly 65 years of life and look forward to at least another 65 years, I know that no matter how well I plan and organize, I must always be ready for unforeseen bends in my road. The crucial element for a successful life is to know that nothing will ever go 100% as planned, and we must be prepared for the inevitable changes that we will encounter. It reminds me of the old idiom ‘The best-laid plans of mice and men oft times go astray.’ Yes, planning is crucial, and we should have clear goals and agendas, but those who are the best planners also plan for contingencies realizing that rarely does life goes according to plan. We have to understand that is ok. There will be bends in our road of life, but that is not the end of the road unless we fail to make the turn. Think about your trek of life as analogous to a rough mountain trail. We will have steep uphill climbs and many twists and turns. We will have to forge through rushing rivers, but we will also come to flat, smooth plateaus where our trek is easy. We must be prepared for all the terrains on our trek of life. When we understand this, we will not be surprised and adapt and change as needed. Indeed, God’s Word can be a guide for us when we do navigate through our life. Push on, enjoy your journey, and be blessed with each day.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Nishan Panwar, and it is: A beautiful life does not just happen, it is built daily by prayer, hard work, sacrifice, and love.
    A Beautiful Life
There is somewhat of a universal standard of a person considered beautiful from an external standard in general terms. Let me ask you, have you ever met a person, who externally thought was beautiful, but once you became acquainted with them, your perspective of their beauty changed significantly? I am positive that each of us has had that same experience. While certain physical features lend themselves to external beauty of face and body, a beautiful life has little to do with outward beauty. A beautiful life does not happen by accident. It is intentionally formed by the decisions a person makes on how they will live their life. Just like the law of planting and harvesting is true and unchangeable, a beautiful life is a result of cultivating daily prayer, hard work, sacrifice, and love. In other words, when we follow the precepts found in God’s Word. Regardless of whether you are considered outwardly beautiful, which is ever fleeting, inward beauty is what we should pursue through our lives. The following passage gives us the pattern for a beautiful life.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians%203%3A11%2D13andversion=NLT (Colossians 3:11-13)
In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

  • Day 1632 – Monetary Slavery – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1632 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomMonetary Slavery – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. We are on Day 1631 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Bob Hope, and it is: A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don’t need it.
    Monetary Slavery
Bob Hope was a comedian, so we understand that his quote was supposed to be a joke, but as with many jokes, it is based on truth. Banks are only in the business of making loans where there is little or no question on whether that loan will be paid off promptly. To qualify for a loan, you must have tangible assets that significantly exceed the loan’s value. Other than the federal and many state governments, we as individuals are not permitted to spend beyond our capacity to pay back the borrowed money.
For so many people, we live in an age, especially in the western world, where we are unwilling to wait to accumulate the monies needed to purchase non-essential things. This is not wise. The fact is that most things that we buy are non-essential. We allow our short-term desires to have material goods to delude us into thinking that it is ok to borrow to obtain something. It has become such an epidemic that we then have to pay for storage buildings to store all of this stuff that we rarely use. What a pathetic and disgusting cycle. We then have to work extra to pay our bills, which harms our family and other relationships. How does any of this make sense? Plain and simple, it makes no sense. When we borrow to purchase non-essential things, we become a slave to the lender and ultimately to the items we have unwisely purchased. As a general rule, unless it is an absolute necessity, never borrow money to buy assets that depreciate. About the only item that is left is your home. When purchasing a home, only purchase one that will appreciate in value and one that you can genuinely afford. You can get by with a lot less than you imagine. I grew up in an old farmhouse with three bedrooms and one bathroom for twelve persons. Yes, it was inconvenient at times, but we made it work, because we had to. None of us favor slavery, yet so many people put themselves into bondage to buy things to impress others who we don’t even like that much. This is insanity. Instead, let us be wise. Borrow only when it is essential and only for items that will appreciate over time. Even then, it is best to keep all borrowing to a minimum and set yourself free from it as quickly as possible.

The wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, tells us:
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2022%3A7andversion=NLT (Proverbs 22:7)
Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.

Welcome to Day 1631 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Bad Habit – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps.
Today’s quote is from Abigail Van Buren, and it is: A bad habit never disappears miraculously; it’s an undo-it-yourself project.
    A Bad Habit
We have all heard of and probably completed many DIY projects – which stands for Do-It-Yourself. If you have ever renovated a house or building, you may have actually been involved in a UDIY project or an Un-Do-It-Yourself project. So it is with the habits that we have in our lives. Good habits are created by focus, hard work, and discipline, which are the core elements of establishing good and wholesome life traits. Forming good habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. Author James Clear puts it this way:
Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. The same way that money multiplies through compound interest, the effects of your habits multiply as you repeat them. They seem to make little difference on any given day, and yet the impact they deliver over the months and years can be enormous. Only when looking back two, five, or perhaps ten years later, the value of good habits and bad ones’ cost becomes strikingly apparent.
Habits are like the atoms of our lives. Each one is a fundamental unit that contributes to your overall improvement. At first, these tiny routines seem insignificant, but soon they build on each other and fuel bigger wins that multiply to the degree that far outweighs the cost of their initial investment. They are both small and mighty. This is the meaning of the phrase atomic habits—a regular practice or routine that is small and easy to do and the source of incredible power; a component of the system of compound growth.

Good habits are a few simple disciplines practiced every day, while bad habits are a few simple disciplines ignored every day. Bad habits will never go away by themselves. If you desire to get rid of bad habits in your life, you will have to un-do-it-yourself. You will need to deconstruct those disciplines you are ignoring, and replace them with good disciplines that you practice every day. Just like renovating a home, it is not quick or easy. It requires that you un-do what has been put in place over years, and then re-do by installing something good and beautiful.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%205%3A16%2D18andversion=NLT (Galatians 5:16-18)
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses

Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: A bad disposition has lost many a good position.
    A Bad Disposition
What is your disposition, or that is to say, your character or temperament? Are you known for being a happy, kind, and encouraging person, or one that is curt, rude, and angry? The path to success in any area of life, such as family, work, ministry, or other organizations, is at least partially based on what your disposition is. Is your temperament pleasant or ugly? Do you find that others love to be around you, or do they shy away and avoid you? It isn't easy to remain pleasant all of the time, but it is possible if you choose to do so. Some people around you will just rub you the wrong way. If you desire to achieve success, you must control who you are. There is no way to change others because change is always an internal decision. Don’t ever play the victim card as an excuse to be ugly with others. You are only a victim when we choose to be. Instead, choose to have a pleasant disposition regardless of your external or internal situation. You are free to choose. Choose wisely. Your next position in life may depend on it.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+4%3A31-32andversion=NLT (Ephesians 4:31-32)
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Welcome to Day 1629 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomInfectious Attitude – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our trek to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Roger Allan Raby, and it is: A bad attitude is the worst thing that can happen to a group of people. It’s infectious.
    Infectious Attitude
Attitude will make or break a family, a church, or any type of organization. If there is a person with a bad attitude, it is like cancer cells that will slowly start to invade and then destroy the organization from the inside out. It is undoubtedly the worst thing that can happen to a group of people. If a negative attitude is permitted to exist, it will spread just like cancer until it takes over that group’s focus and direction. Just like cancer, it must be cut out to avoid any further damage to the host. As with any surgery, this process can be excruciating but is required to spare the organization’s life. The treatment or surgery must be administered as soon as the bad attitude is detected. With cancer, even after it is purged from the body, continual monitoring must is required after the surgery or treatment to ensure that cancer does not return. It will be the same for attitude in any organization. As Zig Ziglar is quoted, “you need a check-up from the neck up.” Continual monitoring will ensure that the organization remains healthy. Once good health has returned to our bodies, eating well and regular exercise will help maintain good health. In an organization, a continual diet of positive attitudes and accomplishments will ensure many years of success. Good attitudes are also infectious, but positively. Like a small packet of yeast will permeate a large amount of dough, so it is with a positive attitude that it will spread through the family, church, company, or any other organization. When you purge the bad, you must replace it with good.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015%3A33andversion=NLT (1 Corinthians 15:33)
Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%203%3A8andversion=NLT (1 Peter 3:8)
Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Joyce Myers, and it is: A #2 pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.
    A Pencil And A Dream
We tend to overcomplicate our lives at times. We feel that we have to have all the details worked out and detailed plans created to accomplish our goals and objectives. We feel we need sophisticated planners or software not to miss the opportunities that may come our way. While there is nothing inherently wrong with planning and achieving all that you can, we need to be cautious. What we need to do is to pause, take a breath, and think of how we can un-complicate our lives. While software and planners may be tools that can help us, they are not a necessity. As with so many things in our lives, which we perceive as needs, they are just desires that may cause us more stress and complicate our lives. The saying, “the more you own, the more those same possessions own you,” is so true. What if we took a minimalistic view our of lives and pursued simplicity? We can do so much with so little. A #2 pencil and your dreams can be a start that can take you anywhere you desire. Just sketch it out with the mindset that an enjoyable life is lived with simplicity and freedom. Yes, use your God-given talents and abilities to do your best and bring honor to His name. As you do so, though, keep in mind that God does not desire to create stress and havoc in your life. He came to give us a rich and satisfying life.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah%2029%3A11andversion=NLT (Jeremiah 29:11)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Welcome to Day 1627 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomTake The Shot – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1627 of our Trek, and it’s time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Wayne Gretzky, and it is: 100% of the shots you don't take don't go in.
    Take The Shot
Wayne Douglas Gretzky is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League for four teams from 1979 to 1999.
Every superlative has been used, many strung together, to describe the otherwordly talent of Wayne Gretzky, who commonly is regarded as the greatest hockey player ever.
Based purely on statistics, there is no argument -- the man is without peer, nor will he have one in the foreseeable future. He owns many records from the ranks of peewee hockey to the NHL, sitting atop every meaningful offensive category, often miles ahead of the players ranked second.
Why did I take the time to describe Wayne Gretzky as I did? Because he knew what it takes to succeed in hockey and life. Wayne knew firsthand that if he did not take a hockey shot attempting to score, it would be 100% certain that he would not score. I am sure there were hundreds of times where it was nearly impossible to make the score, but that never stopped Wayne from attempting the shot. That is why he is the indisputable champion of professional hockey.
So it is with everything that we attempt in life. If we are afraid to try for fear we will not succeed, then it is 100% certain that we will not succeed. It is only when we take a risk, when we expose ourselves to criticism, when we are willing to try, even if there is a chance for failure, will we ever know the thrill of victory. We need to stop procrastinating. We need to break the cycle of getting ready to get ready. We need to boldly go, where no one has gone before. When we do our part to succeed based on our God-given talents and abilities, we can trust God to provide us with the wisdom needed to take the shots, even when not every attempt will result in success. You may never fully achieve the success you desire, but you will succeed by confidently moving forward as you continue trying.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deut.31.6andversion=NLT (Deuteronomy 31:6)
So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Welcome to Day 1626 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomEssentials To Happiness – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1626 of our Trek, and it’s time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Joseph Addison, and it is: “The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for.”
    Essentials To Happiness
Most of us struggle to be happy. Our society has ingrained into our minds that happiness comes from receiving things that are external to us. We think that if we just had a new car, or house, or job, or friend, or spouse, then we would be happy. If you are not happy with your current situation, you will not be happy if that situation changes. While happiness to a certain extent is external to us, we do not become happy by receiving something or a change in our circumstances. To have lasting happiness in your life, there are three essential elements needed. The exciting aspect of these three essential elements is they are not based on what we receive but what we are willing to give. A happy life is grounded in having a fulfilling purpose, that is to say, something worthwhile to do. That could be work, play, ministry, or serving in some other capacity. Happiness comes from when we pour ourselves into someone else's life. This could be a spouse, children, work associates, other family members, friends, or those who are less fortunate than we are. Happiness is also firmly grounded in having something to hope for. Some purpose to get up each day. Some positive impacts that you can make on your world. We all need something to look forward to. This comes when we serve others, love others, encourage others, and are kind to others. When we have something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for, we will find happiness, or to put it in a different light, it is then when happiness will find us. Happiness stems from our faith in and love for others. Happiness is found when we follow God’s commands.

Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.

  • Day 1625 – Bible Study – Software and Reference Works – Meditation Monday
Welcome to Day 1625 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Bible Study – Software and Reference Works – Meditation MondayWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy Today is Day 1625 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life, Meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word and in prayer. It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you, too, will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.
Today will be the final two insights on Meditation Monday as we focus on Mastering Bible Study from Hebrew Scholar, Dr. Michael S. Heiser. We will finish up insights which are focusing on practical tools for Bible study. Today let us meditate on:
Bible Study – Software and Reference Works· Insight Seventy-Nine: Bible Software Should Be a Tool for Bible Study, Not a Crutch
You know by now how I feel about Bible software. It’s an essential tool for Bible study. If you can navigate Facebook or check email, you can use Bible software. It’s time to rush boldly into the twenty-first century.
Think about it. We use technology for almost everything. If you’re an adult, a lot of that technology is recent. That means there was a time you didn’t have it and used something else. That, in turn, means you were able to learn it and take advantage of the benefits. If you can take pictures of yourself doing embarrassing, pointless things and upload them for millions of people you don’t know to see, then you can learn how to use Bible software.
The only real trick to Bible software is discovering what you can do with it. That works two ways. Bible software can replicate what you currently do with amazing speed and visual clarity. In other words, it can help you with all the strategies you enjoy now. But Bible software can also help you get to the information in ways you’ve never imagined. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
Logos Bible Software is my tool of choice. Not only does it help me with original language research, but it’s a library. I’ve already talked about original language tools and software. I want to focus on the library here.

We know what libraries and books are. But having a digital library in a software platform is like also having a research assistant. With one click, you can run through thousands of volumes for a topic. Yesterday’s Bible study meant flipping a book open to see if it had an index that included the topic word you’re looking for. But what if the book doesn’t have an index? In a software environment, that isn’t an issue. Your research assistant has all your books memorized. The result is discovering help you didn’t know was available.
The danger with having supercharged tools is that they become a crutch. That can happen. People will encounter the temptation to copy and paste what they find into their Bible study notes without analyzing the information. You pile on information without assessing the content. It’s like buying books that you never read. Remember: there is no substitute for thinking when it comes to Bible study—not even software.
