  • Day 1605 – Bible Study – Hermeneutics and Commentaries – Meditation Monday
Welcome to Day 1605 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Bible Study – Hermeneutics and Commentaries – Meditation MondayWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy Today is Day 1605 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life, Meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word and in prayer. It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you, too, will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.
We are continuing our series this week on Meditation Monday as we focus on Mastering Bible Study through a series of brief insights from Hebrew Scholar, Dr. Michael S. Heiser. Our current insights are focusing on practical tools for Bible study. Today let us meditate on:
Bible Study – Hermeneutics and Commentaries· Insight Seventy-One: Read a Book – or Take a Course – on Biblical Hermeneutics
Hermeneutics is the science and art of interpretation. It should be distinguished from Bible study methods. Hermeneutics uses involved processes in interpretation, but it also includes historical and theoretical issues and problems.
When it comes to historical and theoretical issues, a hermeneutics book or course will typically discuss things like the following:
The history of biblical interpretation. The Bible has not always been interpreted with the methods we use today. For example, the ancient Jewish community and the early church fathers employed techniques that we would consider strange or even inadvisable today. The same can be said for other periods of church history.
Historical and cultural analysis. A hermeneutics course would introduce students to tools for learning about the civilizations and worldviews that surrounded the ancient Israelites. These resources include primary sources— literature produced by ancient Egyptians or Romans, for example. Serious Bible students need to know where to find primary sources and which literary works contribute to understanding what’s written in the Bible.
Applying the Bible across modern cultures. This area deals with theoretical and practical approaches for communicating the Bible to the world’s cultures. Even in our own day, we know that cultural differences interfere with accurate communication. This is even more true in regard to a book as ancient as the Bible.

In terms of methods of analyzing the biblical text, a hermeneutics book or course will introduce students to a range of procedures, including:
Proper methods of word study. The student needs to consider issues like word usage in context and how synonyms relate to each other.
Literary genre. Genre refers to a type of literature, and genre influences meaning (you wouldn’t interpret the word “court” the same way in a legal document, a sports column, and a building permit).
Greek and Hebrew grammar. Students need to understand grammatical terms that commentaries use when they interact with the original text. For instance, it matters what a Greek “aorist tense’ is and how it affects meaning.
There’s a lot to consider when you’re studying Scripture, and one of the primary goals is the proper interpretation. For that, exposure to a hermeneutics textbook or course is indispensable.

  • Day 1604 – Unlimited Resources – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1604 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomUnlimited Resources – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our trek to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16andversion=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver! Today is Day 1602 of our Trek, and it’s time for another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Unknown, and it is: You are not a reservoir with a limited amount of resources; you are a channel attached to unlimited divine resources.
    Unlimited Resources
There are essentially two types of mindset when it comes to resources. One is the mindset that there is a limited amount of resources globally, referred to as a scarcity mindset. The second is that there is essentially an unlimited amount of resources globally, referred to as an abundance mindset. If you have listened to Wisdom-Trek for any time, you know that I have an abundance mindset. While I understand that some resources are finite, new types of resources are continually being invented through technological improvements and advancements, replacing outdated resources. As an analogy, a scarcity mindset assumes that there is only one pie, and for more people to have a piece of the pie, each slice must be cut thinner and thinner so that everyone can share. With an abundance mindset, there are plenty of resources so everyone can have as much pie as they desire. So it is with our lives that we are not constrained by limited resources such as reservoirs or lakes, but we are rivers of resources. All of the resources that we have are designed to flow through us as blessings to others. The more we allow those resources to flow to others, the more we will receive from God almighty. We can be like the Niagra River, where every day, billions of gallons of water cascade over the falls to be enjoyed by millions of people each year, and the falls provide electricity to millions of others. God’s resources are unlimited; He is the creator of the universe. Our lives are the riverbed in which those resources flow through us and out to others. There will never be an end to the resources and blessings. This lesson is taught to us by Jesus Christ, the Word, who was with God as an active participant of creation.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%206%3A38andversion=NLT (Luke 6:38)
Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.’

  • Day 1603 – Visible Love – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1603 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomVisible Love – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps!
Today’s quote is from Kahlil Gibran, and it is: Work is love made visible.
    Visible Love
I am not sure when the philosophy or teaching began, but for centuries now, it has been taught either overtly or covertly that certain occupations are more honorable than others. This is especially true for someone in what has been considered “full-time Christian ministry.” Other professions which seem to be held in higher honor are medicine, teaching, emergency services. While each of these professions is important, it is a disservice to every other legal profession available today. Not only is it a disservice, but when we consider our role as Christ-followers working to build God’s kingdom, every occupation is a holy calling before God. Because your work is a holy calling, you should love the work regardless of what you do. Being a pastor is honorable, but so is being a server at a fast-food restaurant. Being a doctor is honorable, but so is being a construction worker. In most of the world, fortunately, slavery or indentured servanthood has been made illegal. During much of Biblical times and even up to recent history, slavery was not uncommon for most individuals. When it comes down to it, many occupations worldwide have a similar demand on their workers. So even if you feel oppressed or that you are in a dead-end job, you can still choose to love what you do, because it is an important duty in our quest to continually build God’s kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesian church, in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+6%3A5-8andversion=NLT (Ephesians 6:5-8)
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.

We should love our work, because it is essential in our service to God. We should have the same attitude in our work as when Mordecai encouraged his cousin Esther who had become queen when the Jews were in exile.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Esther%204%3A14andversion=NLT (Esther 4:14)
If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
As you ponder this nugget of daily wisdom yourself, I would ask you to please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.’

  • Day 1602 – Waiting to Grow Up – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1602 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomWaiting to Grow Up – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps!
Today’s quote is from Sue Monk Kidd, and it is: When you’re waiting, you’re not doing nothing. You’re doing the most important something there is. You’re allowing your soul to grow up. If you can’t be still and wait, you can’t become what God created you to be.
    Waiting to Grow Up
Most of us struggle with waiting for just about anything. We don’t like waiting at stoplights, in slow traffic, or even check-out counters while shopping. We are most impatient. We want everything now, including drive-through fast food, banking, and streaming on-demand video. Even for Granny and myself, if a website or program takes too long to load, we get frustrated. I suspect most of you are the same way.
We must realize, as difficult as it is, to be patient. When we are waiting, we are not doing nothing. Which means you are doing something while waiting. You are learning that patience is a virtue, although one that is difficult to understand. You are allowing yourself to mature and grow up. Growing in patience displays that you are gaining wisdom and understanding. You are learning that delays and waiting are helpful and necessary. We do not need everything now. Those individuals who are willing to wait are the ones who will succeed in every area of life. It would be best if you put off what you desire now, for what you desire most. To fully mature as an imager of God, we need to be still and wait so that we can grow up and faithfully build God’s kingdom each day. Waiting allows us to become what God created destined us to be.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2027%3A14andversion=NLT (Psalm 27:14)
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2046%3A10andversion=NLT (Psalm 46:10)
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1601 of our Trek, and it’s time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Zig Ziglar, and it is: When there is pruning, the gardener is nearby.
    The Gardener
As mentioned in a previous podcast, I grew up on an apple practically all of my life, from kindergarten until graduating from college and getting married. It certainly wasn’t an easy life with ten kids and my parents, all living in an old farmhouse with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Although we did not have many worldly riches, we had wealth unimaginable in what counts in life. We had a love of my parents, love for each other, and learning the value of love and hard work, even when you always feel like it. There were many other valuable lessons learned about raising apples, one of which was the pruning of the apple trees. My dad was patient as he taught us the proper pruning techniques. As a young person, I did not enjoy that task, especially since it had to be done after harvest time during the winter. It was crucial that the pruning was completed while the trees were dormant, so it only left about four months during the year where we could prune. Since there were about 40 acres of trees, this took a while to complete. Just as with any type of pruning, at first, it seems counterproductive to cut off limbs that have the potential to bear fruit. As my dad taught us, the old or weaker areas of the tree must be cut away so the strong limbs could produce even better. Pruning also required knowing at what angle to cut and the most favorable place on a branch. So it is with our lives. The master gardener, God, knows how and when to prune weakness and dead spots from our lives so that we can become even more fruitful. Pruning in our lives is not always enjoyable or painless. If we do not allow God to prune our lives when needed, just like on an apple tree, the bad spots or rot will eat its way back into that which is good. We need to desire that we are pruned to productively and proactively work building God’s kingdom on earth, helping to restore a new Eden where we can rule and reign with God for all eternity.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+15%3A1-4andversion=NLT (John 15:1-4)
“I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy Today is Day 1600 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection.
Bible Study – More Practical Tools· Insight Sixty-Nine: Learn About Reverse Interlinears and Their Use
In the previous insight, I introduced interlinear Bibles—specifically, those in a traditional interlinear format. An even more powerful tool is the reverse interlinear.
Like traditional interlinear, a reverse interlinear displays lines of English and the original biblical language. The traditional interlinear format has the Hebrew or Greek line on top, which means the English word order is disrupted. Unlike traditional interlinear, a reverse interlinear puts the English line on the top. Check out today’s Wisdom Journal for an example of John 3:16 using a reverse interlinear.

An obvious advantage to the reverse interlinear format is its readability. It has the correct English word order. Also, concordance numbers are included. But the benefits go beyond the aesthetic. Reverse interlinears in Bible software allow Bible students to link to many Hebrew and Greek word research tools that don’t use concordance numbers. The reason is that the creation of a reverse interlinear involves directly linking each word of the translation to the Hebrew or Greek word from which it derives.
    · Insight Seventy: Use More Than One Translation in Bible Study
The wording of my advice for the day is deliberate. I could have said. “Use more than one translation for Bible study,” but I didn’t. I’m recommending that you use more than one translation in Bible study. There’s a significant difference.
The first option might lead you to think that I’m advising you to switch Bible versions from time to time when you study Scripture. That isn’t the case. Instead, I’m suggesting that you have several translations at hand while you’re studying. That’s why I chose to word my advice as I did.
Having several English Bible versions open is very useful for detecting something in a verse or passage that might deserve serious attention in your study. Let’s look at a couple of examples. The first one is Genesis 49:10.
    New Living Translation
The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants,
until the coming of the one to whom it belongs,
the one whom all nations will honor.
    King James Version
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
The two translations are quite different. If you were using more than one translation, you’d notice that easily. If you were just switching...

  • Day 1599 – Three Steps of Forgiveness – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1599 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomThree Steps of Forgiveness – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1599 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Jay Adams, and it is: When a person forgives another, he is promising to do three things about the intended wrongdoing: not to use it against the wrongdoer in the future; not to talk about it to others; and not to dwell on it himself.
    Three Steps of Forgiveness
For most people, forgiveness does not come easy. It is hard to let go of the hurt which we have experienced. We have to consider forgiveness from a different angle. First, forgiveness does not depend on whether the other person apologizes, is sorry, or attempts to correct the issue. We must forgive without getting permission from the person who has harmed us, it is not a requirement of forgiveness. Not forgiving someone is analogous to drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. It will only be harmful to you. When you do forgive another person, three steps must be completed before forgiveness is complete. First, you must never use the offense as retaliation to the wrongdoer in the future. Second, you must not gossip or talk about the situation to others in a malicious manner. Third, you must set the incident aside and not dwell on it. While it may be impossible to forget the incident entirely, and it is wise to remember the lessons learned, you cannot allow it to control you or negatively impact your life. If you can practice the three steps of forgiveness and become a habit in your life, it will help free yourself from the shackles of an unforgiving spirit that keeps you in bondage. Regardless of whether the other person ever repents from their harmful ways, you do not have to remain in the dungeon of unforgiveness. Be free as God intended you to be.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+4%3A31-32andversion=NLT (Ephesians 4:31-32)
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Welcome to Day 1598 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomUnderstanding Ourselves – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1598 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from C. S. Lewis, and it is: When a man is getting better, he understands more and more clearly the evil that is still in him. When a man is getting worse, he understands his own badness less and less.
    Understanding Ourselves
Humans have the innate ability to deceive themselves and rationalize anything they do as okay, which is also true of Christ-followers. The unusual phenomenon with this tendency is that we judge others most harshly for the flawed character attributes that we have within ourselves. I believe Jesus points this out in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%206%3A37andversion=NLT (Luke 6:37) “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.
When we can understand what evil resides within our hearts more clearly, we will know when we are committing acts in thoughts, words, or actions that are not in harmony with God’s precepts in His Word. It is also then when we can be more understanding and compassionate with fellow humans who are struggling and may not be aware of the evil that lurks within. That is why it is imperative that we continually check our hearts and minds and daily purge the evil that crops up within. If we allow evil to corrupt our thoughts, words, and actions, it will not be long until we are no longer aware or understand it to be evil. We will be deceiving ourselves and not be aware that we are doing so. As image-bearers of God, let us each day seek to emulate the ultimate and perfect image-bearer of God, Jesus Christ. We will then be able to see our weaknesses and continue to grow in our wisdom and knowledge of God. Otherwise, we are deceiving ourselves and become insensitive to our current state of mind.

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+2%3A1-5andversion=NLT (Philippians 2:1-5)
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1597 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today’s current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, we will conclude reviewing the book by Dr. Michael S Heiser titled “Supernatural.” The book is an abbreviated version of his more comprehensive book, “The Unseen Realm.” I highly recommend both of these books. Creating a Biblical Worldview based on how the Old and New Testaments connect with God’s overall plan for humanity is essential. This book review will help us understand what the Bible teaches about the unseen world, and why it matters.
    Conclusion To Supernatural
We’ve come to the end of our journey. But it’s probably better to say that we’ve only just begun. We’ve considered some fundamental questions: Do other gods exist? If they do, does that make much difference in how we understand the Bible? What does it mean for our faith if we presume the unseen world described in the Bible is real—not just the familiar and accepted parts, but the unusual and often-ignored parts? Once I started catching the drift of the supernatural plotline of Scripture, I realized I needed to think differently about all sorts of things. But I can sum them up in two words: identity and purpose. I hope you have been challenged in both of those areas as we have reviewed this book. First, let’s review:
Our Identity—We Have a Home in the Family of God
What this book has discussed has significant implications for how we perceive what it means to be a Christian‌—to be “in Christ,” as the New Testament so often puts it. Once we realize the gods of the Old Testament are genuine, then the meaning of God’s command to have no other god before Yahweh, the God of Israel, comes into focus. The command isn’t about not giving attention to money or boats or cars. It’s about God’s jealous love for his people. In other words, the command actually means what it says. The insanity of loyalty to any god other than the God of all gods is hard to miss.
The awfulness of living with the consequences of how God judged the gods and their people (the “nations”) is also pretty obvious. We were once disinherited, enslaved to the corruption and exploitation of other gods. We were, as Paul says, alienated from God and outsiders to his covenant love (Ephesians 2:12). We were lost, enslaved to darkness, enemies of God in the service to unseen overlords (Ephesians 4:18; Colossians 1:21).
Having a grasp of that situation makes doctrinal concepts like adoption and inheritance more meaningful. It gives them context. God was unwilling to void the plan of living on earth with his family, enjoying the created world that came from his own hand. Yes, at Babel, he turned his back on humanity, but in the next moment, he called Abraham to raise up a new family—and to be the conduit through which those disinherited could find their way back to him (Acts 10:26–27).
Embracing the supernatural reality of the spiritual world of the Bible is essential for understanding the Bible. It explains why, as the Old Testament moves forward, the sin of idolatry will not just be like any other sin. It will be the sin. Israel was created to be loyal to God; when she turned to other gods instead, she was sent into exile, cast off like the other nations. This is a central reason why salvation in the Bible is always described in terms of...
