Join us as Pastor Sammy delivers the message entitled, "I Corinthians 2 Part One: Paul’s Reliance Upon the Spirit."
Notes
The people of Corinth were embedded into a culture where everything goes. This church was the first of Paul’s planting and nurturing. If it could go wrong, it went wrong in the Corinthian church. Paul was in Ephesus when he received a letter alerting him of the problems. In the opening chapter, Paul addressed the different problems that plagued the church. In chapter two, Paul squelched human philosophy and reasoning that some of the leaders used in their deliverance of the gospel. Here is what we can expect in chapter two:
Part One of the chapter: Paul’s deliverance of the gospel
Verses 1-5 Paul used simple language in the deliverance of the gospel while simultaneously
refuted human intellect in the proclamation of the gospel.
V.1 Paul relied upon the Spirit of God to help him to deliver the gospel.
V.2 Paul provided his motivation behind preaching the gospel (Jesus Christ and Him (crucified)
Vs.3-4 Trembling and fear; excellence of speech and fancy oration do not add power to the gospel; Holy Spirit is the only One who can add power to the gospel
V.5 Faith in Jesus is not to be dispensed to man’s ability to deliver the gospel with human
intellect and reasoning, but in the power of God
Part Two of the Chapter: Paul did not come with Jewish symbolism and Greek philosophy
V.6 Corinthians who understood the crucifixion of Christ received salvation, knowledge,
wisdom, understanding, and deep revelation by the Spirit of God (Col 1:26)
V.7 Deep revelation does not come from human wisdom and is hidden from the world
V.8 Chief men of the world were completely ignorant of the divine revelation of God (Luke 23:24)
V.9 God previously did not disclose His final reward of those who love Him (Isaiah 64:4)
V.10 The Spirit of God is the only One on earth who knows what God has in store for believers
V.11 Holy Spirit is everywhere at the same time disclosing the heart of God to men who love Him and His Christ
V.12 Human spirits cannot know the things of God, thus, impeaching any human efforts that claim insight into the Divine. Holy Spirit is the sole keeper of the things of God
V.13 Holy Spirit endows wisdom upon men to preach the gospel with power.
V.14 Natural men only know the things of natural men. It is impossible for them to know the wisdom of God under their own fallen human nature.
V.15 Only Spirit-filled people receive revelation knowledge from God by Holy Spirit. With this spiritual knowledge, Spirit-filled people are able to do self-spiritual assessments.
V.16 Holy Spirit makes known the mind of God and LORD Jesus to the mind of every believer.
Only believers in the LORD Jesus Christ have been given this blessing from Holy Spirit. We have the mind of Christ by His Word and by His Spirit.
