  • She Talks to Kids - And Then Translates

Why won't your teenager talk to you? Are your kids speaking a language you don't understand? What if the secret to better parent-child communication isn't talking more, but listening differently?

Parents everywhere struggle to communicate with their kids, especially during the teenage years. Conversations turn into arguments. Teenagers shut down. Parents get frustrated. But what if we're approaching the problem all wrong?

On Women Road Warriors, award-winning hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro welcome Dr. Zabina "Dr. Zee" Bhasin, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, youth advocate, and founder of Listen to the KidZ. Known as a youth translator, Dr. Zee helps adults understand what kids and teenagers are really trying to communicate.

Her message is powerful: Young people don't need a spokesperson. They need a translator.

Dr. Zee challenges conventional thinking about parenting, teenage behavior, and generational misunderstandings. She explains why kids stop communicating with adults, how judgment and constant correction can damage trust, and why just five or ten minutes of genuine listening can transform family relationships.

She also tackles the influence of social media, artificial intelligence, and digital communication on today's youth. Are smartphones really the problem, or are adults overlooking something more important?

    In this eye-opening episode, discover:
    • Why teenagers stop talking to their parents and what's driving the communication breakdown.
    • How to get your kids to open up without interrogating, lecturing, or judging them.
    • The five-to-ten-minute connection strategy that helps build trust and strengthen parent-child relationships.
    • Why active listening matters and how to practice it without interrupting or immediately offering advice.
    • The parenting double standard: Why adults sometimes criticize behaviors in teenagers that they demonstrate themselves.
    • Teenagers, social media, and AI: Why young people increasingly seek answers and emotional support outside their families.
    • How to build emotional resilience and confidence by making children feel heard, respected, and valued.
    • The surprising truth about teenage rebellion and why young people may want more adult guidance than parents realize.
    • How to reconnect with your teenager through everyday conversations without screens or distractions.

Dr. Zee offers one particularly memorable suggestion: Become your child's favorite talk show host. Ask an interesting question, make them feel like the most important person in the room, and then listen.

Whether you're raising young children, navigating the teenage years, teaching students, or mentoring young adults, this conversation could change the way you communicate with the next generation.

Your kids have something to say. Are you really listening?

  • Cumulative Grief: Why You Feel So Stuck

Are you emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, burned out, or struggling to feel like yourself? The problem may be unresolved grief or the emotional weight of multiple losses. This is cumulative grief and it may be affecting your life more than you realize.

And it doesn't always come from losing someone you love.

Grief can follow divorce, relationship breakdowns, career setbacks, financial hardship, health challenges, or the loss of a future you once imagined. When multiple losses accumulate, the emotional toll can leave even the strongest people feeling stuck, numb, unmotivated, and disconnected from themselves.

In this powerful episode of Women Road Warriors, host Shelley Johnson speaks with Rosalind Price, a certified grief coach, transition strategist, and lifelong grief navigator who has spent 25 years working in corporate America. Rosalind explains why high achievers and resilient women often struggle to acknowledge their own grief, especially when they're accustomed to being strong for everyone else.

Drawing from her personal experiences with devastating family losses, divorce, and the unexpected death of her former husband, Rosalind shares a refreshing perspective on emotional healing, resilience, and rebuilding your life after loss.

You'll discover why grief isn't something you can simply push through, how unresolved losses can affect your identity, relationships, motivation, and productivity, and why creating a new normal doesn't mean returning to the person you used to be. It means growing in spite of it.

    In this episode, discover:

    • What cumulative grief is and how multiple losses can quietly overwhelm you.
    • Why grief can feel like burnout, emotional exhaustion, brain fog, or loss of motivation.
    • Why successful women, leaders, and high achievers often struggle to admit they're grieving.
    • How unresolved grief can influence your relationships, decision-making, and sense of identity.
    • Why society's pressure to "move on" can make grief harder to navigate.
    • The difference between grief awareness and what Rosalind calls grief intelligence.
    • How to stop performing strength and begin recognizing what you actually need.
    • Why self-compassion, healthy boundaries, and the right support matter during major life transitions.
    • How Rosalind's Mind the Transitions® framework helps people build a new normal through awareness, compassionate tools, and sustainable action.

Rosalind challenges the idea that grief is an enemy to defeat. Instead, she encourages people to understand their experiences, reclaim their personal authority, and find a meaningful way forward without rushing their recovery.

Whether you're coping with the death of a loved one, divorce, career loss, major life changes, or years of accumulated emotional stress, this conversation offers a compassionate new perspective on grief recovery, emotional resilience, and personal transformation.

You don't have to pretend you're okay to begin moving forward. There is growth after loss.

  • Is Your Brain Making You Gain Weight?

What if stubborn weight gain, constant cravings and “food noise” aren't simply a matter of willpower? What if your brain is driving more of your hunger, metabolism and eating behavior than you realize?

Triple board-certified neurologist and obesity medicine specialist Dr. Sara Siavoshi joins Women Road Warriors with Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro to reveal the connection between the brain, weight gain and weight loss, metabolism, GLP-1 medications, inflammation and healthy aging.

Dr. Siavoshi is the Founder and CEO of DrBrainRx, a nationwide physician-led telehealth platform focused on metabolic health, brain health, longevity and preventive medicine. She also practices clinical neurology and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosciences at UC San Diego.

In this eye-opening conversation, Dr. Siavoshi explains why she considers GLP-1 medications “brain drugs,” how the hypothalamus regulates hunger and satiety, and how dopamine-driven reward pathways can contribute to food cravings and addictive behaviors.

She breaks down the science behind Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, Mounjaro, semaglutide and tirzepatide, including what may happen when people stop taking GLP-1 medications and why maintaining muscle through resistance training and adequate protein are so important during weight loss.

Dr. Siavoshi explores the relationship between obesity, insulin resistance, inflammation and brain health, including why protecting the brain's blood vessels may matter for cognitive health as we age. She also explains how exercise increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), which supports neurons, neural connections and the hippocampus. That’s the brain region critical to learning and memory.

You'll also hear a fascinating discussion about genetics and obesity, fertility and metabolic health, “Ozempic babies,” vitamin D and the nervous system, neuroplasticity after neurological injury, and what science is discovering about GLP-1 medications and addictive behaviors.

    In this episode, discover:
    • How your brain regulates hunger, fullness, cravings and “food noise”
    • Why GLP-1 medications may affect far more than appetite and weight
    • How dopamine and the brain’s reward system can influence compulsive eating
    • Why researchers are studying GLP-1s in connection with alcohol, nicotine and other addictive behaviors
    • Why weight can return after stopping GLP-1 medications
    • Why muscle, protein and resistance training matter during weight loss
    • What “skinny fat” means—and why appearance doesn’t always reveal metabolic health
    • How obesity, insulin resistance and inflammation can affect the brain and its blood vessels
    • Why exercise boosts BDNF, supporting memory, neuroplasticity and the hippocampus
    • What metabolic health may have to do with fertility and “Ozempic babies”
    • The differences between semaglutide, tirzepatide, Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound and Mounjaro
    • Why vitamin D matters to neurological health

If you've ever wondered why one person seems able to ignore food while another battles cravings all day or why losing weight can feel like fighting your own body this conversation may change the way you think about weight forever.

Healthy aging isn't only about living longer. It's about protecting your brain, preserving your muscle, improving your metabolic health and staying mentally and physically capable as you age.

  • Giving Sexual Abuse Survivors a Voice

Sexual abuse, sexual assault, and harassment can leave survivors feeling powerless, silenced, and afraid they won’t be believed. Attorney and survivor advocate Alreen Haeggquist knows that firsthand. She survived years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse as a child and remained silent out of fear and shame. Today, she has turned that painful experience into a mission to help other survivors find their voices, stand up to their abusers, and pursue justice.

For more than 20 years, Alreen has represented survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination. As founder and managing partner of Haeggquist & Eck, LLP, she has recovered millions of dollars for clients while taking on powerful corporations, institutions, and individuals. Her belief is unwavering: wealth, influence, and status should never put anyone above accountability.

In this powerful conversation with Women Road Warriors hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro, Alreen talks about why survivors often remain silent, why so many fear they won’t be believed, and how abuse can profoundly affect self-worth and a person’s ability to recognize abusive behavior later in life.

She also explains the importance of documenting misconduct, understanding your legal options, and having someone in your corner when confronting an abuser, employer, or powerful institution. Alreen shares why healing from trauma is a journey and how finding your voice can be an important part of reclaiming your power.

Beyond the courtroom, Alreen founded the HAE Fired Up Foundation to help survivors access resources for healing and empowerment. She is also the bestselling author of Fired Up: Fueling Triumph from Trauma, which chronicles her own journey and encourages other survivors to break the silence, find their voices, and move forward.

    In this episode:

    • Why sexual abuse and harassment survivors often remain silent
    • How Alreen turned her own childhood trauma into a mission to advocate for others
    • Why being heard and believed can be so important for survivors
    • How Alreen helps survivors stand up to powerful people and institutions
    • Sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, and survivor legal rights
    • Steps survivors can take to document misconduct and explore legal options
    • How trauma can affect self-worth and the ability to recognize abusive behavior

  • The Secret to Happiness & Inner Peace: Anattā

What if happiness and inner peace aren't things you have to chase—but something you uncover when you stop holding so tightly to who you think you're supposed to be?

We live in a world that constantly tells us to achieve more, prove ourselves, defend our positions and define who we are. Yet all that striving can leave us anxious, disconnected and exhausted. There is another way.

Award-winning author and alpinist Michael Schauch joins Women Road Warriors hosts Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro to explore Anattā, the ancient Buddhist concept of “non-self” at the heart of his book Anattā: Heart of Wisdom. It sounds mysterious, but its message is surprisingly practical: loosening our grip on the fears, wounds, identities and stories we carry can open the door to greater happiness, harmony, connection and inner peace. It happens when we loosen our attachment to the independent self and recognize how deeply interconnected we are with the world around us.

Anattā isn't about losing yourself, surrendering your power or allowing other people to walk over you. It's about discovering the deeper person underneath the roles, expectations and emotional reactions that can quietly control your life.

Michael explains why our attachment to an independent sense of self can intensify fear, dissatisfaction and an “us versus them” mentality. He also explores the Buddhist Four Immeasurables—loving kindness, compassion, joyful empathy and equanimity—and how they can help us build stronger connections and greater harmony.

You'll also discover why inner peace does not mean keeping the peace at your own expense.

Michael shares practical ways to begin: slow down, reconnect with nature, notice the stories running beneath your thoughts and emotions, and create enough stillness to hear what is happening inside you.

One of his most powerful insights turns our usual pursuit of happiness upside down: happiness and inner peace aren't destinations. They emerge as we become more aligned with our true nature.

Michael's path to this wisdom has taken him far beyond the meditation cushion. His extraordinary experiences include remote Himalayan expeditions, Alaskan ice walls, sacred places in Japan and the discovery of a Himalayan cave containing the ancient remains of 23 people. His connection with nature and a remarkable story passed down from his mother after her childhood in postwar Hong Kong helped shape his understanding of our connection to one another and the world around us.

Discover Anattā and a different path toward happiness, inner peace, self-discovery, mindfulness, emotional balance and human connection with Michael Schauch on Women Road Warriors.

    In This Episode, Discover:
    • What Anattā really means and why “non-self” is not about losing your identity, voice, power or boundaries
    • Why happiness and inner peace aren't destinations but can emerge when we become more aligned with our true nature
    • How the fears, wounds, identities and stories we hold onto can create suffering, dissatisfaction and disconnection
    • Why recognizing our interconnection with other people and the world around us can create greater harmony and compassion
    • How to step out of an “us versus them” mindset and respond to conflict with greater clarity instead of reacting from fear
    • The Four Immeasurables—loving kindness, compassion, joyful empathy and equanimity—and how they strengthen human connection
    • Why inner peace does not require women to surrender their voices or sacrifice healthy boundaries
    • How nature can help quiet the mind, reveal hidden thought patterns and reconnect us with ourselves
    • Michael's extraordinary discovery of 23 ancient human remains in a Himalayan cave and what it taught him about impermanence and the human experience
    • How to recognize thoughts and emotions without allowing them to control you—like stepping out of a raging river and observing it from the bank
    • Practical ways to create more stillness, mindfulness, emotional balance and peace in everyday life

What might change if you stopped searching outside yourself for the happiness, wisdom and peace you already have the capacity to experience?

  • Sacajawea: America’s First Native American Superhero

America’s first Native American superhero isn’t another comic-book creation. She is Sacajawea, and she is taking flight as Bird Woman.

The 12-time award-winning animated drama Bird Woman: Sacajawea reimagines her as a navigator, warrior, and shapeshifter. She is part woman and part eagle. Caught between two worlds, Bird Woman battles danger, confronts painful choices, and discovers her strength, her powers, and her destiny.

Her supernatural powers may be imagined. Her courage was not.

Long before Wonder Woman took flight, the real Sacajawea crossed thousands of miles of dangerous and unfamiliar territory while carrying her infant son and helping the Lewis and Clark Expedition reach the Pacific. The expedition would have failed without her. She was only 16, with knowledge well beyond her years.

Sacajawea was far more than the guide many history books briefly mention. She was a Lemhi Shoshone woman, interpreter, navigator, cultural bridge, diplomat, mother, and survivor. Her knowledge helped the expedition find food, obtain horses, communicate with Native nations, and navigate a landscape its members did not understand. Her presence with a baby also signaled that the group was traveling in peace rather than as a war party.

Yet most Americans know Sacajawea’s name without knowing the remarkable woman behind it.

In this episode of Women Road Warriors, Shelley Johnson and Kathy Tuccaro welcome award-winning filmmaker Lynn Rogoff to explore both sides of this extraordinary story: the real Sacagawea whose contributions were reduced to a historical footnote and the groundbreaking animated superhero series introducing her courage to a new generation.

Lynn reveals Sacajawea’s childhood abduction, her dramatic reunion with her Shoshone brother, the dangers she survived, and the conflicting accounts of what happened to her after the expedition. You’ll also discover how Sacajawea became a symbol of women’s leadership and independence during the suffrage movement and why so much of her remarkable story was left out of our history books.

    In this episode, discover:

    • Why Lynn believes the Lewis and Clark Expedition could not have succeeded without Sacajawea
    • How Sacajawea’s knowledge, diplomacy, and fearless actions repeatedly protected the expedition
    • The dramatic reunion with her Shoshone brother and the painful choice she faced
    • The competing accounts of whether she died young or returned home and lived into old age
    • How Bird Woman: Sacajawea transforms an overlooked historical figure into a powerful Indigenous heroine
    • How AI-enhanced animation and interactive character technology are bringing history to a new generation
    • Why animated stories centered on women still struggle to receive funding

  • Stop Your Brain from Stopping Your Success

Your brain may be protecting you from the very success you want.

What if hesitation isn’t a lack of ambition? What if overthinking, perfectionism, fear of visibility, and self-sabotage are old survival patterns running automatically? And what if changing the behavior isn’t enough because behavior is only the final step in the pattern?

Master Coach and “Millionaire Activator” Suzanne Longstreet says the subconscious mind is wired to keep us safe, not necessarily to help us grow. When an opportunity involving greater success, money, leadership, or visibility activates an old belief, the brain may interpret growth as a threat and trigger fear before we consciously understand what is happening.

Suzanne Longstreet is the creator of Quantum YOU Activation and the bestselling author of The Millionaire Brain and co-author of The Millionaire Codes. She helps high-achieving women identify and eliminate the subconscious resistance disrupting their decisions, execution, visibility, and income.

Suzanne explains the sequence: an external trigger activates an internal message, the message creates an emotional response, and the emotion drives behavior. To create lasting change, she says we must identify the trigger, uncover the hidden belief, and rewire the pattern beneath the reaction.

Suzanne traces one of her own limiting beliefs about money to age four or five. After proudly announcing that the 100 pennies in her hand made $100, her mother laughed and corrected her. Although her mother meant no harm, Suzanne internalized a very different message: I don’t understand money. That childhood moment quietly followed her into adulthood and business.

After years of struggling to build her coaching practice, Suzanne discovered neuro-linguistic programming, hypnosis, and advanced cognitive techniques. She says applying those tools helped her move from earning approximately $15,000 a year to $60,000 within six months.

    In this thought-provoking episode, discover:

    • Why the subconscious mind can treat success as a threat
    • How hidden beliefs formed in childhood can influence adult decisions
    • Why triggers—not behaviors—may be the real place to begin
    • How repeated thoughts can reinforce fear and negative emotional patterns
    • What an amygdala hijack looks like in professional and personal life
    • How fight, flight, freeze, and fawn responses affect confidence
    • Why Tall Poppy Syndrome keeps accomplished women from speaking up
    • How imposter syndrome and fear of visibility can restrict income
    • How self-awareness can help interrupt an automatic response
    • Why the language you use about yourself matters to your subconscious mind
