July 22, 2019WiSP Mashup: S1E1 - Rachel Brown-Finnis, Keelin Winters & Jo Gunston RevisitedHi and thanks for downloading this podcast which is the first of our WiSP Mashups. For those of you who are new to WiSP and may have missed some of our very earliest shows we thought we would assembly a little compilation. With the soccer World Cup still fresh in our minds we take a look back at some of our conversations four years ago ahead of the 2015 World Cup. Former English professional soccer player Rachel Brown-Finnis announced her retirement in the winter of 2015 as women’s teams were turning professional and she reflected on her career and how the sport for women has changed. I began by asking her how it was for her when she started playing. This episode was first aired on January 7, 2015. And staying with soccer, one of the first WiSP shows that became WiSP World - a news magazine show where I was joined by Jo Gunston from Sports Liberated we reviewed the latest news which just happened to kick off with soccer as we were heading towards the World Cup in 2015. This episode was originally aired on January 15, 2015. And finally another professional player shares her thoughts on the growth of women’s soccer and how she wants to become a role model for girls. Former Seattle Reign Mid-fielder Keelin Winters began by talking about how to encourage girls to take up the sport and she also shares her experiences of playing for the Australian club the Western Sydney Wanderers. This episode was first aired on February 10th 2015.For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.For more conversations from the world of women’s sport including articles, blogs, videos and podcasts visit wispsports.com. July 09, 2019The Horse Show: S4E16 - Jennifer Baumert & Sarah Lockman Make Their Games DebutOn this week’s show we talk to two riders who are making their games debut for the US Dressage team, Jennifer Baumert from Ohio and Sarah Lockman from California. Jennifer and Betsy Juliano LLC’s 14 year old Hanoverian gelding Handsome join the squad for the 2019 Pan American Games to be held from July 28-3 at the Equestrian Club Militar La Molina in Lima, Peru. Although this will be Jennifer’s Games debut she and Handsome were on the winning Nations Cup team in Wellington, Florida in March this year and she is excited at the opportunity given their consistency since the partnership began three years. They have had sixteen wins so far with six of those this year at Intermediate I, enough to convince the selectors that they are deserving of a place on the team alongside Nora Batchelder on Faro SQF, Sarah Lockman with First Apple and Endel Ots with Lucky Strike. I spoke to Jennifer at her summer training base in Ohio and she told us that her family were counting on her making the team so they could have a holiday in Peru. Sarah Lockman and Gerry Ibanez’s nine year old Dutch stallion First Apple first met in October of last year and in their short time as partners have won all of their FEI competitions with consistent scores in the mid 70’s. But even though this is a relatively new partnership to be making their games debut Sarah knew from the time she first sat on Apple that they were meant for each other and she will be heading to team camp shortly full of confidence of what they can bring to the squad. For show notes and related links for this episode click HERE.For more conversations from the world of women’s sport including articles, blogs, videos and podcasts visit wispsports.com.
