February 28, 2019Transcending Sport: Kayla Nola, Girls Gotta RunKayla Nolan is the executive director of Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that invests in girls who use running and education to empower themselves and their communities. Its purpose is to create a brighter future for Ethiopian women by empowering women to overcome poverty and disadvantages. By being engaged with thought leaders in the field of international sport, Girls Gotta Run envisions a world that empowers and invests in the exceptional initiative of young women who are working to establish their place in the world as competitive runners and leaders in their communities, who are finding strength, courage and power in their pursuit of excellence, and who are achieving their fullest potential in running and society. Inspired by Dr. Patricia E. Ortman, a retired women’s studies professor and lifelong feminist, Girls Gotta Run Foundation, Inc., was established in 2006 as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with the mission of providing support for impoverished Ethiopian girls who are training to be professional runners. Since then, Girls Gotta Run Foundation has provided tools and resources for over 210 women and girls, funded the establishment of seven running teams and developed a community of partners working to support female runners in Ethiopia. February 26, 2019Hockey Talk: S1E20 - Global Hockey LeadershipShannon Miller's guests this week are two leaders in the sport internationally; Finland's Tuula Puputti and Saara Niemi. Saara Niemi — née Tuominen when she played with Shannon— has competed at many WC and Olympic Games – and accomplished many accolades as a player and coach. Saara is now the GM and HC of the women’s hockey team Helsinki IFK, and the HC of the junior girls program as well. Tuula has had a great playing career as well, competing at many WC and Olympic Games, and is now the GM of girls and women’s hockey in Finland. She worked for the Finnish Olympic Committee for 5 years, worked with the Finnish Speed Skating Union, and many years with the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation. The conversation ranges from defining success to motivation, team culture, global leadership and the upcoming 2019 Women’s World Ice Hockey Championships which will be held in Espoo, Finland from April 4-14th. February 25, 2019Transcending Sport: Ebru Koksal, Women in Football UKEbru Koksal is currently the interim Chair of the UK based organization Women in Football - a network of professional women working in and around the football industry who support and champion their peers. Ebru began her professional career in New York, as a financial analyst in corporate finance at Morgan Stanley, and served as a senior manager at Citibank and AIG between 1992-2000. After joining in 2001, Ebru has held several senior positions at Galatasaray. Following the merger of football, stadium and marketing companies in 2010, she was appointed as the General Manager of the merged entity, Galatasaray Sportif A.S. Ebru was the first woman to be elected to the Executive Board of the European Club Association in 2010 and she served as the Vice Chairwoman of the Institutional Relations Working Group. She was the recipient of the “Executive of the Year Award 2011” by Stadium Business Awards. In October 2011, she was appointed as the General Secretary of Turkish Football Federation. After leaving TFF in 2012, she joined FIFA’s Development Program as a consultant and became a mentor at the FIFA Female Leadership Development Program and UEFA Women in Football Leadership Programs and also served as a consultant at UEFA between 2016-18. Ebru is currently a Senior Advisor at J Stern & Co, Non-Exec?tive Director at Doublepass BV and MNT Healthcare, a member of the Scottish FA Equality and Diversity Advisory Board and is also a founding member of the 30% Club Turkey. Ebru is a graduate of Brown University, with dual degree in Economics and International Relations and Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. February 22, 2019Athlete Profile: Tara Geraghty-Moats is on Flying FormIt’s been a stellar season so far for the American Combined Nordic athlete Tara Geraghty-Moats. Last weekend she swept to a pair of wins in an International Ski Federation Nordic Combined Continental Cup in Rena, Norway. With this latest in a string of wins, Geraghty-Moats continues to lead the standings as she has all season. She has now won eight events in a row, seven of which in the Continental Cup. Women’s Nordic Combined is still a Developing Sport and will be a part of the World Championships beginning in 2021, with hopeful inclusion in future Olympics. In the meanwhile Tara heads to the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships this weekend, which are being held in Seefeld, Austria February 19 - March 3 to compete in the ski jumping events on the 90m hill. Since this has not been her focus this season she is realistic about her goals but will relish the opportunity to be competitive on the hill. After these championships Tara will travel to Russia for the final Nordic Combined events of the season and be hard to beat in the Continental Cup Rankings.
