Not so long ago, Brent Stutzman was working a full time job, starting a marketing side hustle, supporting his wife as she worked full-time as a therapist and clinic owner, and trying to be a good parent. If that sounds like too much, you're right - it was.
Brent started an executive coaching series with host Rory Tyer. Coaching helped transform his life and give him the clarity he needed to quit his job and start his business full-time - a marketing agency helping private practice clinic owners get more and better clients.
In this episode, Brent and Rory talk transparently about what coaching is, why it can be so helpful, and how to get the most out of it. In the process they also talk about branding and marketing best practices, tips for navigating change with resilience, and more.

What's your reaction to the word "conflict"?
Most of us have had negative experiences with conflict. We tend to imagine that conflict should be the exception to the norm. Leader development expert, coach, and conflict resolution guru Steve Beck thinks otherwise--and he'd like to help you navigate conflict in more healthy ways, learn what you can, and prevent it before it starts.
In this episode you'll learn Steve's leadership essential for conflict (a simple framework you can remember and apply). You'll be invited to reframe how you think about conflict. You'll hear concrete tips for handling it well when you experience it. And you'll hear about ways to live and communicate that make conflict less likely--at least as far as it depends on you.

By now it's a truism to say that hiring is broken. Traditional interview and selection processes suffer from a number of weaknesses. And trying to hire for "culture fit" often means finding people who are just like "us," which can make for silos, less diversity, and higher turnover. What's the best way forward?
Michael Simpson is CEO of PAIRIN, Inc, a company trying to revolutionize hiring and workforce development using friendly science. Their PAIRIN soft skills survey and MyJourney platform have helped thousands of people find better jobs and receive smarter coaching and workforce development / placement guidance. And in many ways they're just getting started.
In this conversation we talk about what's broken in hiring and how to fix it, how data can help people both apply for better jobs and screen candidates more effectively, what "culture fit" should really mean, the biggest mistake Michael made and what he learned from it, and more.
For some people, "authenticity" means being 100% myself, all of the time. But this has a lot of problems: We're not always the best version of ourselves; we may not know exactly what "myself" is; sometimes it's better for a team, for another person, or even for us if we don't necessarily reveal exactly what we think and feel In that moment.
Dan Owolabi's book Authentic Leadership tackles this question and gives practical ideas for leaders to show up with healthy authenticity wherever they are. In this conversation, Dan and Rory talk about the value of keynote speaking, how to protect family time in the face of competing demands, how to navigate conversations and relationships across faith boundaries, and what "authenticity" really means.

Dan Chan has performed magic for lots of people you've heard of--including Google, Facebook, Apple, and recently a group of US Congress members. He got to this point by hustling as an entrepreneur and taking an innovative approach to his business that has seen him profiled by The Hustle and Business Insider. When the pandemic hit and he lost $8,000 worth of shows, he applied that same hustle to develop a magic show over Zoom.
In this episode Dan and Rory talk about how to learn from failure, the value of relationships, and what makes magic so enduringly special for people. And--yes--Dan performs some tricks for Rory--including an effect that he had not done before this interview anywhere else. (If you're only listening to this, you're missing out - go to our YouTube channel to watch the trick.)

Lots of things are uncertain and volatile right now. Some "coaches" and gurus are essentially shaming people into feeling that they should be more productive, learn new skills, or starting new businesses. A lot of this is inappropriately wishful thinking that isn't really helpful. But--does growth still matter? Can we grow without burdening ourselves with unrealistic expectations or feeling shamed for not making as much progress as we thought we could? We think the answer is yes, but you've got to have the right mindset and the right tools.
In this episode--pulled from a recent webinar--executive coach Rory Tyer talks through three specific frameworks that anybody can use to take back some control in uncertain times. They are:
1. Reflection - why it matters and the most effective way to do it for only one hour once a week;
2. Separating why we do what we do from how we do it - and the one planning framework that can free you up to spend your time more wisely;
3. Degree of candor - how to understand and approach communication challenges so that you can have more open conversations with anyone around you, even in stressful times.
When you think about what you want, do you know why you want it? Do you really want the process that's required to get there, or do you just want the outcomes?
It doesn't matter how shiny your brand is. If you don't have documented, replicable processes in place to sustain you and your business / nonprofit / role / organization, you won't achieve what you want to achieve.
Brandi Nicole (B The Light Enterprises) works with entrepreneurs, small business owners, and nonprofit founders to help them audit their work, focus their efforts, and put processes in place that ensure sustainability. We talk about clarifying your "why," what gets in the way of establishing processes, why auditing yourself on a regular basis is important, and how processes provide boundaries that protect what you find most valuable.
