World of Concacaf Podcast

A special CONCACAF LASER FOCUS as the guys take a look at Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States but a full Concacaf member. After looking at the history of the island and the soccer culture, the pod welcomes former Puerto Rico men's national team player Jacob Conde (30:52), who earned seven caps with El Huracán Azul from 2016-2019. After Jacob and Eric reminisce about their shared alma mater, we hear stories of first the call up, an away trip to India and competing in Concacaf Nations League. Finally, Eric gets to play the often imitated but never duplicated feature: REAL TEAM OR FAKE TEAM (67:50).

The most wonderful tournament in all of sports returned for another edition in the September FIFA window, so Donald and Eric had to talk about it! From League A to League C (or from League C to League A) we've got it all covered, highlighting Anguilla's historic away win over Turks and Caicos, Saint Lucia's big window in Grenada and Nicaragua leaving it late twice. After recapping CNL, the topic is the USMNT and their long awaited hire of Mauricio Pochettino to take over the bench.

On this episode, we head to the "B" of the ABC islands to do our CONCACAF LASER FOCUS feature on Bonaire. A special municipality of The Netherlands, Bonaire is one of Concacaf's non-FIFA members, but we talk about the challenge and effort to fix that, along with flamingoes and other fun stuff. On REAL TEAM OR FAKE TEAM, Jonathan tries his best with all the SVs.

On our next CONCACAF LASER FOCUS we head to Central America to talk Nicaragua. As Americans, it's a complicated history with Nicaragua, as Eric and Jonathan discover that it hits even closer to home for them. A discussion about what got Nicaragua where it is today and the soccer that they play. Donald gets up for REAL TEAM OR FAKE TEAM.

With the dust settled for the most part, the guys chat through Copa America 2024 and review Concacaf's performance in the tournament, highlighted by Canada's run to the semifinals with Jesse Marsch. While their coach is doing alright, not the same in other parts as we talk the United States finally firing Gregg Berhalter, Heimir Hallgrímsson leaving Jamaica hanging and the weird situation in Mexico with Jaime Lozano. In the end, we discuss what we learned about Concacaf in this unique tournament.

The biggest island of them all wants in! News broke recently that Greenland has sent a request to join Concacaf after failing to join UEFA. In what we call A DEEPER DIVE, Donald and Eric are joined by Paul Watson of The Sweeper to break down how we got here with Greenland, what to know about The Polar Teddy Bears history, their journey to this point and what we can learn from their recent friendly against Turkmenistan. Is a Concacaf away trip to Nuuk in our future? What happened to those stadium renderings? Are they going to need to join the Caribbean Football Union to do this?
