Welcome back to the Hiring School mini series! As an entrepreneur, finding the right people to join your team is crucial. But with so many candidates, job boards, and services out there, it can be tough to know where to start.
Don't stress! I'm sharing my top tips for identifying what makes a great candidate. Keep in mind that different types of companies may require different skills and experiences. And while years of experience can be important, it's not always a reliable indicator of a great candidate.
So how do you know who to hire? By creating a hiring plan that includes interview questions that assess a candidate's abilities and problem-solving skills. Because years of experience can be great but if the candidate can't work through the basics of the job, they aren't the best fit.

If you're a boss it may take some time to get used to the fact that people aren't as willing to share feedback with you. People will take time to trust you and learn that they can give you feedback without the risk of losing their job, being looked over for a promotion, or any number of other things they may have feared at a previous job.
If your team is reluctant to give feedback it may be because of a lack of trust, confidence, or opportunities for them to share. If you're doing regular 1:1s, team meetings, employee happiness surveys, and debriefs after each project or deliverable, you're right on track!
Don't lose hope if it takes a while to get better feedback, your persistence and willingness to listen to (and accept!) feedback will make all of the difference.
