  • Kingdom Come – Soaking Worship, Meditation Music [Episode 190, November 16, 2019]

Episode 190 – Music for Prayer, Soaking Worship, Meditation, Relaxation, Rest, and Studying

Today’s piano instrumental interlude is called “Kingdom Come”. This episode is around 10:30 long and has a lingering, peaceful mood. I used my special group of solo piano and shimmering, warm pads to create this ethereal soundtrack. There isn’t a rigid, defined melody in this piece. As I improvised, I wanted to feel the sense of staring, in awe, at the mysteries and wonder of the God of the universe. I imagined a glimpse into heaven. I imagined the wonder of the colors, the sounds, and the feelings that we may experience in heaven. I remembered that Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven”.

As you listen to this soothing piano instrumental interlude, allow the Kingdom of God to become real to you. Sense God’s peace, His Presence, and the awareness of His Holy Spirit as you pray, meditate, or worship.

    Grace and peace,Fred

  • Love Never Fails | Piano Instrumental [Episode 189, November 12, 2019]

Piano Instrumental Improvisation Music for Prayer, Meditation, Soaking Worship, Relaxation, and Rest

I have read the famous “love” passage in 1 Corinthians hundreds of times in my life. It’s so beautiful, yet so challenging. The expectations put forth in Scripture about loving one another are high. Yet, if we can try to live with this challenge in our hearts, it is so incredibly powerful.

As I read this passage in my daily devotion this morning I was inspired to read it in several translations. I was deeply inspired by the Amplified translation. May it be inspiring to you as well.

Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening]. Love never fails [it never fades nor ends].1 Cor 13: 4-8a, Amplified

  • Day by Day | Piano Instrumental Music [Episode 188, November 8, 2019]

“Day by Day” Piano Instrumental for Prayer, Meditation, Soaking Worship, Relaxation, and Reflection

Living our lives day by day is an intentional way to reset. With each passing day you have an opportunity to pause and consider what has happened and what you hope to happen.

One of the disciplines I practice is journaling my wins and losses for the day. I wish I could tell you that I was successful at this discipline but many times I fail to journal. Sometimes I confess them to myself as I lay down to sleep. It’s a great practice to do as you look back on your day. It’s also a great exercise to prepare for the day ahead.

As you listen to today’s interlude, take a moment and think about your personal wins and losses. A loss can be a challenge, an area where you disappointed yourself or others, or something similar. A win can be something great that happened, or it can also be the celebration of a good choice. Perhaps you stayed faithfully to your diet or exercise regimen. Perhaps you were faithful in your spiritual disciplines. Maybe you were quietly self aware of a choice to not argue or speak negatively about something.

These can turn into expressions of gratitude and prayers for help. They are wonderful ways to open the door into your spiritual practice of prayer and meditation.

I hope that you enjoy the interlude.

  • The Thin Veil | Piano Improvisation [Episode 187, November 5, 2019]

The Thin Veil – Solo Piano Instrumental by Fred McKinnon

Today’s piano interlude is called “The Thin Veil”. As I was playing and recording this morning, I was thinking and praying for a dear friend in our community. He’s been in the long, weary stages of battling a disease. Without a miracle, he will be taken from us soon. He’s told me before how much he enjoys listening to these interludes so I am dedicating this to him.

I personally believe that there is a thin veil between us and eternity. We grow up thinking of heaven as some destination in the sky. I wonder if the people on the space station are closer to heaven and God than we are here on Earth. Yet, I’m convinced that it doesn’t work that way at all. I’ve been in the hospital or hospice rooms too many times and witnessed those final, passing moments where it’s obvious that the veil between this life and the next is so very thin. It’s right there, and we are so close to just stepping through that veil into glory.

As my friend Steve faces the veil, I pray for him. I still pray for miraculous healing. I pray for peace, comfort, and a release from pain. I pray for his beautiful wife and children. I grieve that we are in this fallen world filled with disease and pain but I celebrate that this is not our home.

I hope that you enjoy this episode.

  • Hope | Soaking Instrumental Worship [Episode 186, October 29, 2019]

“Hope” – Piano Instrumental Music for Soaking Worship, Intercession, Prayer, and Meditation

This morning I watched the dark, black sky slowly begin to turn orange as the sun began to sneak over the marsh here on St. Simons Island, Georgia. I was sitting in my truck praying and watched the color of the sky change. It reminded me of how faithful God is and how we know that each day the sun will rise and it will set.

With each sunrise it represents a new day. Hope. Promises. Mercies that start all over – a bucket full.

If you’re tired, weary, or feeling hopeless, I hope you’ll take the time to get lost in this ten minute instrumental track. Find refreshing in your short time of solitude, prayer, and meditation.

As always, I love to hear back from you. Does this music bless you? Please let me know.

  • Take Time | Too Busy for Soul Care? [Episode 185, October 22, 2019]

“Take Time” – Piano Instrumental Music for Soul Care

Today’s interlude is a short breath of fresh air. I recorded this on a day when I had a million other things on my mind and what seems like a never-ending task list in my business life. The temptation to skip the interlude today and rush into my ever-growing task list was great. Yet, I’ve learned over the years that if I don’t stop and tend to my soul, things don’t go well. My effort to be productive is always counter productive when I ignore my devotional time.

Let’s be honest. Who isn’t super busy these days? Practically no one. We all have to remind ourselves that taking a moment to tend to our soul doesn’t have to take a long time. Even a brief 5-minute break in our day will yield positive results. As you listen to this interlude, consider just putting down your devices, disabling your notifications, and closing your eyes. Take slow, intentional, deep breaths. As the thoughts of all of your tasks and to-do list flood your mind, try to just let those thoughts pass through. If your mind is super active, replace the busy thoughts with thoughts of gratitude.

My guess? If you do what I suggested, after listening to this brief interlude you will feel more at peace. Rest. You’ll want to play it again. The thought of opening your eyes and returning to the chaos will not be so attractive.

The chaos awaits. We have things that have to be done. But ignoring our soul – spirit, mind, and body, is not an option.

    Take time.

  • Shimmering Light | Instrumental Background Music [Episode 184, October 18, 2019]

Shimmering Light – Piano Instrumental Music for Prayer, Meditation, Mindfulness, Soaking Worship, Relaxation

Today’s interlude is called “Shimmering Light” and makes use of the grand piano combined with shimmering, warm synth pads. I’m really enjoying experimenting with the tonic pad, which is the root and fifth note of the key held and sustained throughout the piece.

This piece leaves a lot of space between the notes. I enjoy these because the spacious, atmospheric sound makes it much easier for me to calm my mind and get into a more focused state of prayer and meditation.

I hope that you enjoy today’s interlude!

  • Soul Searching | Piano Instrumental Music [Episode 183, October 15, 2019]

“Soul Searching” – Episode 183 of the Worship Interludes Podcast

I woke up this morning at 5:00 AM for my Tuesday morning workout with my F3 buddies. It was raining outside but headed out to the workout location knowing there was a covered area that we could still meet. After my workout I decided to grab some coffee and park down at one of my favorite quiet locations on our island – the Village Creek Landing. It was dark and rainy so I parked my truck in my normal spot that gives me a great view of the river, marsh, and sunrise. Turned off my truck and let all the inside lights turn off and just sat in the darkness, listening to the rain. It was a peaceful time that led to some honest, raw prayer and soul searching.

Upon returning home I decided to record this interlude in the Key of D minor. I also experimented with recording it on video. The video I made today is vertical on purpose, as I wanted to feature it on my Instagram TV (IGTV). I’d be honored if you consider following that account on Instagram @fredmckinnonmusic.

I hope you enjoy the music.

  • Holiness | Piano Background Music for Prayer [Episode 182, October 11, 2019]

“Holiness” – Piano Instrumental Background Music for Prayer, Devotion, Soaking Worship, Meditation, and Relaxation

To listen ad-free with no introduction bumper, become one of my Patron Supporters on Patreon.Com!

Today’s episode is called “Holiness” and it was inspired by the “Verse of the Day” in my Bible app from YouVersion.

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”1 Peter 1:13-15, NKJV – YouVersion/Bible

Originally, I was going to let this improvisation stand alone with only the piano. As I was mixing down the final master, I decided to hear it with that I now commonly refer to as the “tonic track”, which is the root and fifth note of the key. I loved the way it pulled the piece together, especially coming from the introduction that I’ve recently added.

For me personally, I enjoyed recording this piece. As I recorded and again as I played it back I closed my eyes and sang worship from my heart to God. I’m here all alone in my home studio this morning and it was a refreshing time for me.

I hope you enjoy it and find a peace and Presence in your life as you listen.

  • Grace and Peace | Piano Interlude [Episode 181, October 8, 2019]

“Grace and Peace” – Solo Piano Improvisation

“Grace and Peace” is a way that I often sign my emails. I think it’s a beautiful gift to extend to someone. We could all use more grace and peace in our lives.

This piece is a simple piano improvisation in the Key of A Major. This morning as I recorded I just felt like closing my eyes, breathing slowly, and playing whatever melody came forth.

It has a lyrical, light feel to it and I hope that you will enjoy it.

This episode also has an “intro bumper” that I’ve prepared. I’m considering adding this to each episode. I’m honestly deeply torn because I know the speaking can disrupt the flow of the interludes. At the same time, I want to give people an opportunity to discover and find the rest of my music. I am making a version of the podcast available that does NOT have a bumper intro for patrons. My thought was that of the thousands of people who download this every day, would it be too much to ask people to become a supporting patron for as little as only $1/month for the ad-free/bumper-free version?

I’m open to your thoughts. I love making this podcast available to the world. It blesses my soul to read all of the feedback and comments. Yet, it also requires a substantial amount of time, energy, and work.

Regardless, I continue to record, release, and offer you grace and peace.
