  • #14 "The Day I Didn't Kill Myself." New author DebS gets Caryl Westmore's input on her Memoir

    Send us Fan Mail

Meet DebS, author of the upcoming Memoir "The Day I didn't Kill Myself."
After finishing writing her book she wondered - what next?

    A member of the
Writing the Book Inside You  Facebook Group, Debs met with Caryl to get some input on her next best steps.

Listen to how she got clarity on her book title, sub-title and the opening paragraphs which Caryl advised should "hook the reader" from the get-go.

Debs says how she originally titled her book "How Words Can Change your Life" or "How words Can Heal your Life".  The book she says is "essentially my memoir about how I became depressed following a divorce, and then having suicidal thoughts. And obviously, I didn't follow up on that otherwise, I wouldn't be here today."

It was initially all about the words, the words that jumped into her head, then it was about words that people had said to her.
"I thought the title seemed to make sense, celebrating that there is such a thing as life after divorce, there is such a thing as life after depression, there is such a thing as life after having suicidal thoughts," she says.

One day she heard the poem "The Morning after I Killed myself".  It was written from the point of view of somebody wishing that they hadn't, but it was too late.

In this interview, she shares the story of how this led to her final title "The Day I didn't kill myself."

"But I didn't have a very good subtitle," she says.

That's where Caryl Westmore gave her key ideas which made her subtitle enticing for readers.

You will also hear how the opening of the book got a new hook.

Realizing she was near-suicidal 20 years ago sent Debs on a healing journey which she shares in this interview.  It is also woven into the book (with many of the therapies that helped her including Emotional Freedom Techniques). She hopes that she can help others who are on the brink of despair and depression to realize there IS life after divorce and deep depression.

Debs also shares how much of her adult depression and feelings of being unloved originated in her early childhood when her Mum, suffering from post-natal depression and mental health issues left home with her brother - leaving her feeling unlovable and abandoned.

A key part of her healing journey was to rescue and re-parent her Younger Self and to talk over the past with her mother.

Writing is a cathartic journey says Debs who recommends it to anyone who is thinking of writing a transformational memoir.

    Send us Fan Mail

Today’s guest Nick Westmore proves age is no barrier when it comes to writing the book inside you.  Nick Westmore is my husband and the author of three books which I happily helped him publish on Amazon in my role as the “Tapping Book Coach.” As someone who published his first book after he retired in his 70s, Nick proves that if he can do it, anyone can! He tells us how he’s always had a whimsical way of seeing the world and finding humour wherever he goes. He gives us some background into his career and travels as an engineer and how this led him to write the book True Expat: Tales of an Expatriate in the Oil and Gas Industry. Apart from sharing a number of light-hearted anecdotes from the book, he also sheds light on another book he wrote, Village Boy at Heart, and the book he is currently writing about life in South Africa during the pandemic. Hear about Nick’s writing process, the job of independent self-publishing and the importance of getting help with the editing, proofreading and design of your book, as well as other aspects. Like he did from Caryl. Tune in today for some inspiration from Nick as to why you too should write the book inside you.

    Send us Fan Mail

For a mother faced with an addicted son or daughter – whether to alcohol, drugs etc - the struggle to stay sane while trying to save them (and cope with the pain) can become all-consuming.  It can turn her life into a living nightmare for herself – and the rest of her family. But what if this concern is compounded by realizing her grandchildren are impacted – possibly even in danger – due to the toxic behavior of the addict?

This is what happened to Michelle Weidenbenner, today’s guest on the Write the Book inside You Podcast. When she first realized her son and his wife had a serious addiction problem, Michelle says she had no place to turn to get support and understanding about what she was going through.  Her friends would say “well don’t enable him” and “he’ll have to reach rock bottom.”

But for Michelle, this was no help.
“What did they mean?” she asked, “that he had to die?  I didn’t think he wanted to be in that place of despair.”

Her 7-Step program for "Mom recovery" follows the metaphor of a seed from germination to flowering because she says: "

An award-winning author of novels, an inspirational memoir, and children’s books, Michelle never envisaged her retirement years like this.

  • Episode 08 - Believe in your Book-Writing Dreams - How Tanya de Villiers found her voice to become an Amazon Author of EFT Tapping Lion Heart book series.

    Send us Fan Mail

Ever wondered how your dream of writing a book can be squashed by a critical parent, teacher, or professor?  It happened to today’s guest Tanya de Villiers while she was at university in South Africa. She reveals how she showed a collection of her poems to a professor she trusted. And he trampled on her dreams. She gave up hope of being an author until her 30s.

What changed was finding a therapist (Caryl Westmore) skilled in EFT Tapping and Matrix Reimprinting who took her back to this memory and many others earlier in her childhood to release and change the emotionally damaging beliefs she had internalized growing up.

The result - Tanya found her voice as an author and published her first book (about a little boy called Jamie with cerebral palsy) to great acclaim among her peers in the EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) community.  She then went on to write and publish eight more children’s books, teaching life lessons about things like bullying, expressing your feelings, and having lion-hearted courage. Lessons she wanted to impart to her own young daughters.

Fast forward 10 years. Today Tanya de Villiers has an Honors degree in Clinical Psychology and a Masters degree in Human Movement Science. Based in Saudi Arabia, her company specializes in -  among other things - psychological assessment and Human Resources supports accreditation for psychometrics.

We begin this episode by acknowledging that even the most highly educated or qualified person can find it challenging to express her true voice when it comes to writing and publishing a book.

Tanya openly shares her journey to become a writer advising listeners who may long to write a book to “just do it” and not fear putting yourself out there - or possible criticism. She talks about how early trauma can be stored in the body, affecting your dreams to write a book - but reminds us that you can - and must - get help to overcome that so you can share your wisdom with the world.

Finally, Tanya speaks about moving her entire family to Saudi Arabia; insights about the Myers Briggs test - and what she would tell her younger self about expressing herself as a writer.
