Hunter Dickinson scored a career-high 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to help Michigan beat Michigan State 87-70. Caleb Houstan added 16 points for Michigan (16-12, 10-8 Big Ten). The Wolverines moved into a three-way tie with the Michigan State and Rutgers for sixth in the conference standings - a game behind No. 23 Ohio State and No. 24 Iowa, which are tied for fourth. The top-four seeds earn a double-bye into the quarterfinals of next week’s Big Ten Tournament. Gabe Brown led Michigan State (19-10, 10-8) with 12 points and Tyson Walker scored 11. The Wolverines were without coach Juwan Howard, who served the 3rd of a 5-game suspension.

Lamar Norman Jr. had a career-high 35 points as Western Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan 71-60. Kevin-David Rice led the Eagles on Tuesday night with 12 points.

Miami (OH) 75, Central Michigan 61 – Williams carries Miami (Ohio) over Central Michigan 75-61

Kamari Williams had a career-high 21 points as Miami (Ohio) beat Central Michigan 75-61. Kevin Miller led the Chippewas on Tuesday night with 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Red Wings 4, Hurricanes 3 – OT – Raymond's OT goal lifts Red Wings past Hurricanes, 4-3

Rookie Lucas Raymond scored a power-play goal with eight seconds remaining in overtime and the Detroit Red Wings ended Carolina’s five-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory. Raymond’s 16th goal of the season came on a rebound of a Tyler Bertuzzi shot. Carter Rowney, Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Larkin scored in regulation for Detroit, which had lost its last two games. Alex Nedeljkovic made 27 saves for the Red Wings. Sebastian Aho, Jesper Fast and Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes, while Antti Raanta stopped 38 shots.

NHL – Chicago Blackhawks drop interim tag for GM Kyle Davidson

The Chicago Blackhawks have hired Kyle Davidson as general manager, dropping his interim tag instead of going outside the floundering franchise for new leadership. Davidson has been with the Blackhawks since he joined the organization as a hockey operations intern in 2010. The 33-year-old from Sudbury, Ontario, also has worked as a video analyst, hockey operations manager and assistant GM. Davidson was elevated to the interim job after Stan Bowman resigned in October in the wake of a report by an outside law firm that found the organization mishandled allegations that an assistant coach sexually assaulted a player in 2010.

Wizards 116, Pistons 113 – Wizards beat Pistons for 14th straight time at home, 116-113

Kyle Kuzma scored 21 points and Thomas Bryant added 16, and the Washington Wizards won their 14th straight home meeting with Detroit, holding off the Pistons 116-113. It’s the longest home winning streak against any team in franchise history. The Wizards pulled to within a game of idle Charlotte for 10th place in the Eastern Conference. Jerami Grant scored 26 points for Detroit, which had a chance to tie on its final possession. Saddiq Bey missed from the perimeter, and after an offensive rebound, Killian Hayes missed a 3-pointer.

Gabe Vincent and Tyler Herro each scored 20 points, and the Miami Heat improved their standing atop the Eastern Conference by topping the Chicago Bulls 112-99. Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo each had 15 points for Miami, which has won nine of its last 10 games. Max Strus had all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter for the Heat. Chicago guard DeMar DeRozan’s streak of 10 consecutive games with at least 30 points ended; he finished with 18. Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 22 points, while Ayo Dosunmu had 18 and Nikola Vucevic added 14 for Chicago.

Magic 119, Pacers 103 – Fultz scores 10 in return, helps Magic beat Pacers 119-103

Wendell Carter Jr. had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and eight Orlando players scored in double figures as the Magic beat the Indiana Pacers 119-103. Tyrese Haliburton had 23 points and seven assists for the Pacers, and Buddy Hield added 18 points. The game marked the return of Magic guard Markelle Fultz, who tore his left ACL almost 14 months ago. Fultz had 10 points and six assists in 16 minutes, leaving the game with the Magic up by 16 points in the middle of the fourth quarter.

NCAAMBKB – Gonzaga, Arizona remain atop poll amid big changes

The top six — and seven of the top 10 — teams in the AP Top 25 lost on the same day last week, both records. The single day of chaos led to some big changes in this week’s poll — everywhere but at the top.  Gonzaga and Arizona remained the top two teams in the poll released Monday, holding steady despite both losing their most recent games. The Zags received 43 first-place votes from a 61-person media panel after being a unanimous pick last week.  No. 3 Baylor had four first-place votes and No. 4 Duke picked up 11. Auburn rounded out the top five.

MLB – MLB labor talks go past midnight amid opening day deadline

Locked-out players and Major League Baseball engaged in a series of intense meetings that stretched into early Tuesday morning as they attempted to forge the path to a labor deal before management’s deadline for salvaging opening day on March 31. In talks that began Monday, the sides met for a 12th time in a session that started after 1 a.m. on Tuesday as the lockout reached its 90th day. They made progress toward an agreement but remained very far apart on key issues. After months of talks in fits and starts, the sides shifted into possible deal-making mode.

MLB – Jeter leaves Marlins

Derek Jeter announced a surprise departure from the Miami Marlins after 4 1/2 mostly unsuccessful years that didn’t come remotely close to matching his success as a player for the New York Yankees.  Jeter became CEO of the Marlins in September 2017 when Bruce Sherman bought the team from Jeffrey Loria. A five-time World Series champion during a playing career spent entirely with the Yankees from 1995-2014, Jeter was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2020. Miami went 218-327 during his four seasons at the helm, finishing with a winning record only once at 31-29 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Kofi Cockburn scored 27 points and Alfonso Plummer had 26, helping No. 15 Illinois beat Michigan 93-85. The Fighting Illini led by 15 midway through the second half before Michigan rallied within two points down the stretch. Illinois improved to 20-8. DeVante’ Jones scored a season-high 25 points for the Wolverines, who fell to 15-12. Michigan was without suspended coach Juwan Howard, who missed the second of five games for hitting a Wisconsin assistant coach a week ago. Phil Martelli again filled in for Howard.

Kianna Smith and Hailey Van Lith each scored 20 points and No. 4 Louisville raced to a huge lead and routed No. 14 Notre Dame 86-64 in a testy matchup. The Cardinals led 41-3 early in the second quarter and beat the Irish for the sixth straight time in improving to 25-3. The teams got into a shoving match in the second quarter. Notre Dame fell to 21-7. This was the final regular-season game for both teams. They both have a double bye in the upcoming Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

(17) Ohio State 61, Michigan State 55 – No. 17 Ohio State women defeat MSU, share Big Ten title

Taylor Mikesell scored 17 points, Jacy Sheldon added 13 points and 10 assists, and No. 17 Ohio State defeated Michigan State 61-55 on Sunday and the Buckeyes later claimed a share of the Big Ten regular-season title. Iowa defeated conference-leading Michigan 104-80 later Sunday, vaulting the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes into a share of first place on the final day of the regular season. Mikesell and Sheldon were the only Ohio State players in double figures against Michigan State. Nia Clouden led Michigan State with 19 points. She was 4 for 18 from the field but made all 10 of her free throws.

(21) Iowa 104, (6) Michigan 80 – No. 21 Iowa shares Big Ten title with win over Michigan.

Caitlin Clark had 38 points and 11 assists and No. 21 Iowa clinched a share of the Big Ten championship with a 104-80 win over No. 6 Michigan. It’s the first conference regular-season title for the Hawkeyes (20-7, 14-4 Big Ten) since 2008, who shared the championship with Ohio State. Clark, who came into the game as the nation’s leading scorer at 27.1 points per game, had a career-high 46 points against the Wolverines in a 98-90 loss on February 6. She was just as effective in this game, hitting 11 of 18 shots from the field, including 8 of 11 in 3-pointers.

Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich and David Perron scored during St. Louis’ dominant second period, and the Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 for their fourth straight win. Perron tacked on a third-period goal in the opener of a four-game trip. Brayden Schenn had two assists for St. Louis, and Jordan Binnington made 30 saves in his second shutout of the season. The Blues improved to 3-0-1 against the Blackhawks, closing out their season series. Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 stops for Chicago, turning away several quality chances for St. Louis.
