We wrapped up the 2018-2019 season of The Coaches live at Michigan Lutheran High School, site of the Division 4 Baseball & Softball Districts...

Olivia Elliott of Berrien Springs High School Softball is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of May 19, 2019.

In games against Brandywine, Watervliet, and River Valley at the Berrien Springs Shamrock Invitational, Olivia went a combined 7-9 at the plate including a home run and six RBIs. She also pitched the Shamrocks to two wins, throwing two complete game two-hit shutouts.

Olivia is also a member of the Berrien Springs Volleyball team, plays travel softball, and show animals at the Berrien County Youth Fair. In the classroom, she carries a 3.79 grade point average.

Olivia is the daughter of Julie and Brian Elliott of Baroda.

Another finalist for the week was Brock Prenkert of Brandywine Baseball.

Benton Harbor senior Chris Scott joined us on Morning Sportsbeat Friday morning.  We talked about his years kicking for the Benton Harbor football team, the obstacles he overcame, his success in the classroom, his academic scholarships, and the opportunity to possibly continue his football career in college.

Ja’Kobe Young of Lakeshore High School Track is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of May 12, 2019.

At the Division 2 Regional Meet, Ja’Kobe won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of :22.42, the third fastest time in the state in Division 2. He also ran a leg for the winning 4x100 and 4x200 Meter Relay teams. The previous week, he won the same three events against St. Joe, Niles, and Portage Northern, and then won the conference championship in the 200 Meter Dash and 4x100 Meter Relay.

Ja’Kobe is also a member of the Lakeshore football and basketball teams. In the classroom, he carries a 3.2.

Ja’Kobe is the son of Cynthia Young of Benton Harbor.

Other finalists for the week were Zoe Dortch and Payton White of Berrien Springs Track, Taylor Garey of St. Joseph Softball, and Jake Ickes of Coloma Baseball.
